:furious: Today is the first day of school and already there's an antsy neighbor passing my 11yo son's bus. He rides the "special" bus because he's mentally handicapped, as are several other riders. It takes us a few minutes to get him boarded--he's slow but steady. Neighbor, can you not wait 5minutes for a disabled child to get aboard? Do you not realize you could be endangering a busload of kids? It's the first day of school, for crying out loud! The bus driver is distracted learning new names and faces, helping my off-balance child get up the steps safely. Some of these kids have never ridden a bus before. They may not know the rules yet. What if one of them got off accidentally and you hit them? What if you bump the bus and my so falls off the step? Just wait!

If you need to be at work that badly, leave 5 minutes earlier. The bus will be in front of my house every morning at 7am until the end of May.You need to adjust your schedule accordlngly.

Sorry for the bad morning. {HUGS}

However congrats on the first day of school. I just woke my 2 girls up as well for their first day.

Whooo-hoooo!!!!

Isn't it ridiculous? When I used to drive my 77 pax bus and I came across a smaller van or bus loading I would always put my reds on. I can honestly say, on the vans, sometimes people don't see the lights. Heck, sometimes they don't see a huge busses lights. I had a UPS driver get half way through my lights one day and SLAM on the brakes. He stared at me aghast at what he had just done and was full of apologies.
SCHOOLS IN PEOPLE....DRIVE CAREFULLY. You never know when a child is going to go darting across the street to get to their bus.

In my old neighborhood on the cul-de-sac, all the moms would stand at the bus stop with the kids on the first day and take pictures and thoroughly mortify the children as they pulled away as we all did the "happy dance"

I would definitely be having a "chat" with that neighbor.

Around here, if you get the license plate #, and report it to the police. They will pay a driver a visit & "remind" them of the laws. They can't write a ticket, but they will "talk" to the driver.

I'm surprised the bus driver didn't call the police. Around here is a car passes a bus the police are called immediately.

I would also talk to the neighbor. I don't understand people passing buses with their lights on. I had a parent flip me off when I told him he couldn't drive by the bus when it was letting kids off - this was at school in the bus zone where cars aren't even permitted :furious: When I reported him to the main office it turned out he had done the same thing to another staff member :furious: The asst. principal called him and he couldn't understand what the big deal was about passing a bus when the kids were getting off. Some people just don't get it :sad2:

She probably will, if she was quick enough to catch the license plate--she was assisting my boy up the steps(I'm the "catcher", in case he falls backward). I didn't know the car or I would have called them myself. Nothing steams me quicker.

I didn't realize stopping for a loading/unloading school bus was optional. :sad2: It's not like there's a need to watch out for kids who might run across the road or anything. (sarcasm- I know sometimes it's hard to tell on a message board.)

Hopefully he won't do it again. If there's other moms nearby, maybe someone can watch for him while another is helping load her child on the bus. Or does it stop by your house just for you? I apologize for my ignorance, I'm not too familiar with how the buses work in this type of case.

The high school kids are the ones who pass the stopped buses around here. I don't get it, because just a year before they were the ones riding the bus! I'm impatient too but I stop and wait my turn. It's the law, and those kids come running out of every crevis to catch the bus. It's always the same people too. I once had someone go around me to cut in front of the bus. And they gave me a dirty look! Hey buddy, your stupidity and impatience is not my problem. How hard is it to leave a few minutes earlier or later?

The handicapped bus stops directly in front of the house, at the end of my driveway. Unfortunately, there are no other parents out--the regular bus comes by about 30 later. Just me.

I hope my neighbor was just having a "stoopid moment". I really don't want a confrontation. :badpc:

Bummer. I agree (I don't like confrontation, either), hopefully it was just a moron moment on his part.

That's right, you don't want a confrontation!!!
That is why you should not personallly speak with the neighbor.

If they are a neighbor, it ought to be easy enough to get a peek at their license plate. Or, if not, just the address, make of vehicle, etc.. might be enough.

If you don't want to report it now, You might want to write down the license plate next time you happen to see their vehicle. (Surely they don't leave it under lock and key with the garage down 24/7)

Then, if it ever happens again... call immediately. ;)

That is why I cross the street with my DD (soon to be 2 DDs) and stand there in the middle of the road.

One day early into DD K school year a guy went by the stopped bus, speeding no less, since then I stand out even time we are there. (I drive her often.)

One time a guy even had the nerve to yell at me to get out of the way so he could go. Needless to say, I gave him a little lesson on bus safety and the lights.

Where I live it is a criminal violation to pass a school bus when it is stopped. It doesn't matter which way you are driving. The first weeks of school there are always officers waiting down by the bus routes waiting for the jerks to go by. I hate seeing it.

Sorry you had a bad day & I feel for you!

Same thing happened when my preschooler would get on his bus. He went via special education so was on the special bus. He had a harness for him to wear so the bus driver had to hook the harness up to the clips along with doing the seatbelt for him.

We had people pass the bus while the stopsign was out. We live on a busy street so people tend to drive above the speed limit and think of our street as a shortcut. Well TOUGH, it really doesn't take the bus driver that long to do it and if you would just wait a minute the door would be shut & you could be on your way. Not my fault you are in such a big hurry you can't wait the couple minutes.

I always have fun because my older one goes to summer school to on the special bus (but not during the school year). Amazingly enough no one passed it during the summer while the stop sign was out (of course, the driver would shut the door while DS was strapping in since I think all the kids on his bus were not physical needs but academic needs). It's only during the school year people decide the stop sign is not meant for them. UGH!

Actually it was bad for ALL busses that last year they had police riding on random regular busses and would radio in license plates of cars that decided to ignore the stop sign. I believe they were mailed a ticket. I just know it was written up in the newspaper.

My idiot of a SIL passed not one, not two, no not even three, but FOUR stopped school busses in a matter of two years. My gullible in-laws kept her out of trouble by paying the fines for her. Her excuse? She was distratcted by her baby and was reaching for something for it. Of course she claims to have not seen any of teh big yellow things with flashing red lights in the middle of a country road!

Same here. Today was the first day of school for some districts; tomorrow is the first day for all the other local districts. All of the local news stations were reminding viewers about the laws concerning buses and warning them that the police would be out to "remind" them with a ticket if they passed a bus when they shouldn't!!
