Hi. We're driving to FL from IN for Spring Break the 1st week of April. We have decided to drive on I-65 thru B'ham and Mont., AL instead of I24 to I75 thru GA after some bad traffic problems on 75 the last couple of years.

I am looking for specific directions from Montgomery south, specifically what route do you take, esp. after Dotham, AL? Do you go into GA and then down to I-10 or do you take 231 straight down to I-10 and thru Talahassee? We've never driven in this area of the country so we're unfamiliar with the terrain, traffic, construction, etc.

Any news on construction using this route would be appreciated.

Thanks, Carmen

Hi Carmen,
After driving from N. AL on I65 to B'ham, I20 to Atlanta, and I75 to WDW several times, we ended up like you and decided to start traveling through south AL to get to FL because of the traffic. It is a quicker drive, but it has a lot more stops (lights) and changes in speed limit. I like the drive because as a kid it was the route we took several times to go to the beach, so I feel like I'm headed to FL the whole way. ;) :sunny: We have also tried several different routes off of Hwy 231 to get to I10, but each route was about the same time wise (if you go through GA you might save 10 min, but you'll feel like your in the middle of no where) and we've decided to just stay on Hwy 231 until we hit I10 in FL. Sometimes we stop over in Tallahassee for the night to break up the trip. That only leaves about 3 1/2 hours the next day to get to WDW. Hope this helps - have fun! :cool1:

I lived in B'ham when I first started going to WDW, and now live in Montgomery. We always take 231 to I-10, and have never really had any problems going that way. Just be careful in Cottondale...that's a speed trap.
