Drive time from Orlando to Hilton Head Island

I am driving from Orlando's to Hilton Head Island in our upcoming trip there.

Can anyone tell me reallistically how many hours will it take? Is it too tiresome? What time should we leave Orlando?

It is approximately 5 hours from Orlando to Hilton Head. You will need to take Interstate 4 East out of Orlando. It will connect with Route 95 (you want 95 North) and that will take you all the way to South Carolina. Take Exit 8 in South Carolina (it is just 8 miles after you cross the Georgia/South Carolina border) and follow the signs to Hilton Head. It is apporximately 30 miles from the highway to the island.

We don't find it tiresome at all...but then again we are used to driving straight through from Connecticut to Orlando (about 20 hours)!

If you are driving during the week I'd try to leave Orlando before 5am, between 9am and 2pm or after 6pm. That way you will beat the rush hour traffic in Orlando and Jacksonville.

You want to avoid rush hour in Orlando on 4 heading east. WDW being on the southwest side of Orlando, you have to go right thru all that traffic to get to the east coast and I 95. I would advise leaving WDW either around 6 am or after 9 am.

Jacksonville on 95 can have some pretty bad traffic during the afternoon rush hour. But you should be well pass there even if you leave around noon.

There is a good bit of constuction on 95 heading into Jax. You can check on the I - 95 website and get the latest details.
