Does anyone know if you can take a soft sided cooler or drinks into AK? I have 3 small children and always take drinks for them. I thought I saw somewhere that you could not take stuff in. Can someone help out with this info?

Thanks

We've previously used a backpack/cooler--which has a compartment on the bottom for an ice pack and room for beverages at the top. If you're talking about a small lunchbox-type cooler that has juices for the kids, you should not have a problem.

Soft drinks MAY present a problem. This has never happened to me, but I thought I might have seen others report that Disney had objected to their choice of soft drinks because of their contract with Coca Cola. If you go with Coke products, nobody will say a thing because they really can't tell where you bought the items.

Maybe someone else will comment if they have had any negative experiences with other soft drinks.

Obviously they will object if you try to bring in any prohibited alcoholic beverages.

I have brought Sam's brand canned soft drinks into the parks in a backpack cooler and never had a problem. I have also carried water bottles but I don't recall the name brand.

I bring soda, juice boxes and water all the time. I usually do it in a 2 gallon ziplock inside my backpack. I freeze a water or 2 and a juice box to keep the others cold and by the end of the day, my frozen drink is defrosted and still cold and refreshing.

Here's the info from the WDW website (Parks & More FAQs):
Q. May I bring my own food and beverages in to the Water Parks?

A. Coolers of a size that may be safely carried are permitted. No glass containers or alcoholic beverages allowed. There are no storage areas for coolers.

I think you'll be fine bringing in a cooler :) Have a great trip!

Here is what we encountered when we were there 2 weeks ago. My dh had a drink with him from McDonalds. The guy at the gate said we had to throw the straw away because they do not allow straws in AK, but we could keep the cup with us. I do know that zoos in my area do not allow straws either.

If you are just going to be cooling off drinks.....I'd forget the cooler and just pack some juice boxes in you backpack/diaper bag. If your kids are like my kids, they will drink them warm or you could ask for a cup of ice at one of the eateries. -HM

Thanks everyone, I was just going to bring in some juice and water bottles in my soft sided cooler. No straws or anything like that. I just wasn't sure if AK differed from the other parks as far as bringing in things. We always take our little soft sided cooler to all the other parks but this is our first trip with the kids to AK. I know their policy is slightly different because of the animals, but if we just have our water and juice I guess we should be ok.

Read carefully, the quote was attributed to the WATER PARKS, not the THEME PARKS. I don't think you are supposed to bring your own drinks and food into the parks. Except for maybe baby items.

I dont know what the official "rules" are, but we have always brought our own food to the parks, more snack time stuff, small bags of chips, fruit snacks, granola bars, and ALWAYS bring our own drinks, bottled water and soda. We have never once been "stopped" at security for having our own food. ANd, its very rare you see a family with small children not eating their "own" food brought in. Also, we also bring lots of string cheese for the kids, and nobody has ever told us it wasnt allowed.
