Hi,

Please don't flame me for admitting to having a couple of drinks on vacation! ;)

But here's what I want to know...since we just reserved a cash ressie (w/25% discount) at HHI this morning for the end of June, and we will have a full kitchen, can we brink drinks down to the pool and/or beach? We went to Myrtle Beach last year and DH bought a case of beer, pop and water for the room. It saved us from spending too much at the bar. We have an inconspicuous soft sided cooler that we loaded up in the morning and brought down to the pool.

Since this is our first vacation as DVC owners (Hooray!!!) and our first visit to HHI--any help is appreciated!

TIA!

We certainly do the same thing at Vero beach. We just put our drinks in our insulated sippie cups. I think as long as your not displaying a bottle of beer, wine, or liquor you'll be fine. Nothing better than a margarita (or two) on the beach. We're going to be a HHI in early June, so I can let you know what we experience.

Have a good trip :beach:

Technically probably not.

The last time I was at HH they had outlawed alchol on the beach

Prohibited at the Beach all year long:
Liquor, beer or wine.
All forms of glassware.
Shark fishing.
Horses.
Sleeping on the beach after midnight.
The operation, launching or landing of motorized watercraft ( except in emergencies ).

CarolA--thanks for that link.

I also found this on that site:

Seasonal Rules from April 1 - September 30, 2007
No Stunt Kites between 10 AM - 6 PM.
No sand-sailing between 10 AM - 6 PM.
No fishing or surf casting in designated swimming areas.
No surfboards, boogie boards or other articles to ride the surf in designated swimming areas.
No frisbees or other team sports involving a ball in designated swimming areas.
No games with metal components (such as metal horseshoes) in designated swimming areas.

Any idea what "designated swimming areas" means? :confused3 Our kids used boogie boards in Myrtle Beach and they loved it! If I told them we couldn't use those at all, our two teenagers would be pretty bummed!

What about the pool? I can understand beer not allowed on the beach itself. I usually just pour it into a travel cup/mug. But is it okay to bring a beer from your unit to the pools? What about at WDW itself? I've done it before but I've never been quite certain it wasn't against the rules. Be nice to know for sure for our upcoming June trip to OKW.

One of the things we didn't know before we went to HHI--that disney is not on the beach. The vacation club is actually in Shelter Cove. It is a very nice area. There are MANY wonderful resturants on the island.
As for alcohol...the beaches at HHI are patrolled. They are strict about what goes on on the beach. If your drinks are in containers---you'll be fine. Beer cans---not so good.
Have a wonderful time at one of our favorite places!

Technically being the key word.

I pretty much live on my boogie board when we're at the beach. It's been 6 years since we've stayed at Hilton Head, but I can guarantee you that if I couldn't have used my boogie board I would remember that and we wouldn't be going back there. :sad2:

The beach at HH is about a mile from the resort itself. If you put alcohol in a sippie mug, that's considered an open container and could be an issue if you are driving, biking, walking, or taking the shuttle van to the beach. There's a nice pool bar at the beach house, why not just buy a drink there? As far as the pool at the resort, I don't see why you couldn't byo.

The only part of our HHI trip that disappointed us was the service/value of the drinks at the pool bar. The CM was surly (always watching tv) and the drinks were watered down, IMHO, for the price. We had our own sodas in large plastic cups. No one had a problem with those, or ever checked them. Otherwise, have fun at HHI! We had a blast.
