Drinking Water

For those of us who are familiar, the drinking water in Orlando/Florida tastes awful (we are forever scarred regarding drinking water when we travel). Please tell me the water in HI isn't as bad. We went to Maui for our honeymoon so I assume Oahu would be similar, but I can't recall what the water tasted like.

We usually bring our insulated bottle with filter to help purify the water, but it is rather big and slightly heavy. We are debating on bringing it on our trip or if we are just good to bring our regular insulated bottles.

Aloha! Our drinking water is fine but the past few months (November 2021), the USN really left a black eye that scared lots of people in the state by tainting their own military families water supply and a lot of talk is that it may be worse than it was initially thought. So far, nothing bad at the moment but as a local, our family uses a filtered faucet or bottled water for our newborn (as most do), but when we go to Aulani, we always take a case of Costco water which usually lasts us 3 days. If you have the ability to do a Costco run or even a grocery store stop, that’s usually the most convenient. Hope that helps you in some form of fashion and I wish you the most memorable stay!

Water in Hawaii is great. I have never heard anyone complain about the water there. You won't have any issues.
unless your water supply is provided by the USNavy water supply! I’m sure those families have ALOT to say about that!

I don’t believe anything they say! I’m sure there are a lot of others down here that would agree! Kirkland water is fine for me in a hotel lol
Have they not cleaned that up ye

I also thought that it was limited to a certain area. The whole Island's water supply was not affected. You can't really go anywhere that does not have something in the water. Where do you think those bottle waters come from? Can you really be sure that any of the water that you are drinking does not have stuff in it? Water in Hawaii is safe to drink. If you feel more comfortable with bottled, that is your choice. But please don't make it out to be like all of the water in Hawaii is toxic.

The insight I gave was not made to state that the water in the place I was born, raised, and still live is toxic. Like many places, there are things that aren’t being told and am very comfortable with the choices we make as a family and wanted to share that with this Disney family. “Contained” in one area… the focus is Red Hill, but things weren’t shared prior which is why you saw the panel “grill” officials on Monday was it?

Nonetheless, yes, historically our water is safe. Thankfully there hasn’t been any news about it spreading or sickening others. But as a local who values spreading aloha, I felt it was a fair post. If you drink the water from the bathroom by the pool at Aulani, that’s your choice. I will still smile at you if you see me. You are ‘Ohana now and will be ‘Ohana tomorrow! *of course the plastic that the water is in concerns me more!*

So are you saying that all water is unsafe on the Island but no one is reporting on it? So the State is allowing people to drink contaminated water and get sick? I am not sure what you are trying to say here.

Here now..now issues...and hiking diamond head my girls had no problem drinking the water from the tap....side notr there is a bottle refil station just b4 you start the hike
Good to know, thanks! Hope your hike was awesome.

Thanks for the insight! Really scary that the water was contaminated (had to look up the story) as I hadn't heard of this until now. I can't imagine what it would be like with a young family. We are scarred from horrible "normal" drinking water in Florida, but that is just way worse. We will be doing our Costco run after we're checked into our room. If worse comes to worse, we'll pick up a case of water, but I would prefer to reuse water bottles we have.

Like the other member is saying, I’m not saying our water is bad at all, it’s just good to be aware! We grew up drinking water from the hoses in our neighbors yard but with what has happened w/in the last few months, it at least makes you think. Nonetheless, I still wash dishes and bath with no worries but we drink out of a filtered faucet and yes, that water comes from our aina! I live within the parameters of that red hill fiasco so it hits home especially when it comes to my keiki growing up and having their own families here as well!

Disney gets its water from local sources. Hawaii water is just fine.

Please remember,,if for any reason Disney thought their water was bad or conaminated,,,,I can almost bet that they would be providing everyone with some form of drinkable water,,,there is no way they would risk that

This is what I was thinking. I was there last year when it came out the the military contaminated some water. It wasn't the whole Island, but it did affect things. But Aulani, and most of the Island was fine. I can't imagine that the local government would say that it was just fine in one area, while warning people about another source.

You need to tell Disney about the Florida water...ewwww. Not contaminated or undrinkable but tastes absolutely awful.

It has become much, much better over the years. I think that they have done more with it to kill the swamp taste. My husband had not been to WDW in almost a decade, and when we went last fall, he noticed a difference right away. I have noticed it too a few years ago, but I go much more often so was not sure if I was just getting used to it.

Last time we were in Florida was in August 2019. DH and I came back from a no-kids trip to at the end of May/early June this year and I could smell the water from the fountains at the parks when we filled our bottles (these ones from Amazon). Maybe it has gotten better over a decade, but to us, it tastes (and smells) awful.

We opted to limit our purchase of single use plastics and other disposable goods, etc while in HI last week. We brought our refillable insulated water bottles and used Aulani Ice and water to fill throughout the days and refillable mugs for soda/punch/bubbly water and we filled all up with water before outings. While out it was harder to find places to refill these and sometimes needed to buy water if we did not want to use an old drinking fountain or bathroom sink. But despite being big water drinkers, we would have wasted a case of costco water bottles because our approach made robust use of our bottles and mugs to the maximum and tried to be conscientious about waste.
