We cruised 12/11-15 on the Wonder. All seven of us completely dressed up for pirate night. We went to dinner in our outfits, and stayed dressed through the Pirate Party on deck. We were four adults and three kids. We had clothes, earrings, headbands, eye patches, everything except shoes! We had a BLAST, and got some awesome pictures.

BUT, we only saw a grand total of FOUR other families dressed in pirate clothes! We were shocked nobody was dressed! We got some really, really, funny looks and comments from people. Some thought we were drunk, and others were very impressed. We even got tons of comments from CMs on the ship.

The next day I went into Shutters to look at the photos, and only saw a handful of pictures of people dressed up. There were a few families with the kids dressed and not parents. I took a lot of ribbing from the other adults in the family, because I told them lots of people would be dressed up: NOT!

All of us agree we would still do it again---it was loads of fun for all of us. However, I just wanted everyone to know our experience, so your husbands won't be grumbling in your ear the rest of the cruise! pirate:

Thanks, we can't decide what to do. The kids dds 11 and 9 want to dress up and I was going to just get t'shirts or something for dh and I. DH is fairly shy and dosen't like to call attention to himself so I doubt we will do the full garb, especially after hearing your experience.

We had a blast dressing up! I bought hundreds of pirate tattoos and gold coins and the kids and I passed out our booty all night long. It was great. All the kids loved the tattoos! I even had some left over and passed out tattoos and coins on CC the next day.

We were the only family dressed in full pirate garb for dinner, but then again we were in tritons. Lots of kids had costumes on at the party and most were Jack Sparrow bought at the last minute at a high price in the gift shop.

We will dress for Pirate night anytime it is offered. We had a blast with the tattoos and coins and cant wait to cruise again!

On our last cruise which was a 4 day Wonder cruise for DVC it seemed that only the DIS'ers dressed up. We got many positive comments and many asked us how we knew to pack costumes.

We would do it again.

We cruised over Christmas and all of us dressed up for the big event. My DS8 wore a POTC t-shirt, jeans, a skull/crossbones bandana and clip-on hoop earring. My DD5 wore a darling pirate costume I bought on eBay. I bought them both pirate swords that they carried around with them (you can see pics of them in my album - link in my signature below). The rest of us (parents, DH and I) wore pirate t-shirts - a couple I purchased beforehand and the others were pirate t-shirts purchased in Nassau earlier that day - these were black with a white skull/crossbone on the front and said something about Nassau on the back. I didn't see a ton of people dressed up either, but we definitely fit in just fine and we had a blast. Those other folks don't know what they were missing pirate:

My husband is going to kill me if we are the only ones fully dressed... bought him the whole shebang with the jacket, pants, blousey shirt and hat..
Oh well.. we will make it fun..
THanks for sharing your experience..

We are planning to dress too...All for getting in the spirit of the night...

I got DH and 2 DS's the flowing shirts, they may get eye patches and stuff if they want. I'll be in a peasant skirt with peasant blouse and a vest...

I figure, what the heck, we are going to have fun...If anyone asks, we can always say "Didn't you get the memo?" :rotfl2:

It sounds like more people dress up on the Magic than the Wonder from the sounds of the reports posted here. Perhaps it is because more DISers cruise on The Magic? It seemed that over half of the people we saw on Pirate night wore some kind of costume a couple weeks ago. We did get asked how we knew about it by some people. Our neighbors even asked us if there was something to do with pirates going on that night when we saw them in the hallway on the way to get pics done with the characters at 5 pm. LOL! I guess that some people don't bother to even read the navigators. You can't expect everyone to research before the cruise either. ;)

Can you wear shorts on Pirate Night? I know shorts aren't allowed in the dining room at other times, but thought that we could do "tropical" at least on Pirate night.

The navigator still requests no shorts on that night. We didn't notice anyone wearing them in our rotation.

One of my favorite things about cruising is I pack the luggage before we leave and I lay out EVERYONE'S outfits for dinner each night. Yes, it is alot of work, but the pay-off is seeing my DFamily in matching pirate outfits, and dressed nice on formal night. If they(meaning my DH) buck about what they're wearing the next time they(meaning DH) have to do all the packing. :rotfl: Like THAT would ever happen!! :rotfl2:

LOL! I do the same thing. :) I pull out my dresses then match DD's up with them. DS's shirts match as well. DH usually does ok on his own, though I have packed the matching shirts before & he finds out about them on the cruise. :) I hang the dinner clothes up by night in the closet too. It just makes it easy for me.

I was the same way.... I wanted us to look like we were a family but not twins... lol So no matching outfits really, just compatable colors!

My sons, 13 and 20. We all dressed up for Pirate Night, meaning our whole Dis group. We looked great!

Sounds fun! But we'll be one of those that doesn't dress up for this. Not only do we not want to take with us all the "stuff" we'd have to take to dress up for this but I'm still pouting that we'd purchased stuff (matching all 5 of us no less!) for "Tropical night" and they changed it to Pirates. Bah humbug. I think we'll dress in our Tropical clothes on Pirate night. Call us rebels. LOL We'll be dressed nice and matching... maybe I can put eye patches on all of us and we'll fit in? LOL We'll be tropical pirates... okay?

Well, my son will be dressed as a pirate. I might buy POC tees in WDW or try & find a red & white striped shirt.
I doubt anyone but DISers or repeat cruisers would even know to dress up like pirates on that night.

You will not be the rebel you think you are ;)

The navigator recommends Pirate or Tropical Dress
Pirate Night Navigator

When we were on the Wonder over Thanksgiving, our Navigator said the same thing. A lot of families wore tropical, and a few wore pirate.

One nice thing I noticed, all the CM's commented to the people wearing pirate costumes. So while there were only a few pirates, the CM's made them feel right at home.

Just DH and I going and both of us will be dressed in pirate duds pirate:. Haven't been able to convince him to wear a pirate wig, though. Thought all the braids and beads would really add to his costume. Speaking of which, I still have to string the shiny beads to adorn my outfit!

We were one of the few families dressed up for pirate night. We were on the Wonder in December. We had a blast. My husband won the pirate contest. He decided to take his costume a different direction and dressed as Mr. Smee. He got a lot of weird looks at first during dinner but he enjoyed hamming it up during the party (especially with the real Mr. Smee!). I don't think many folks knew about pirate night. Must not have been to many DISers onboard.

I have been contemplating on dressing for pirate night. My sister actually dressed as a pirate for halloween using my clothes. We also might be able to borrow her band costume from last year Pirates show. I dunno though. We will at least wear out POTC shirts we have.
