Does anyone have their girls wear a dress or costume that is non-Disney. Do you think it would be ok if they wore Princess like gowns (not specifically the Disney Princess ones but they were called Princess Dress on the hanger and will definitely look like one wearing it.
I went to Burlington Coat Factory and they have the Clearance Racks for the off season items.
For example i just found two gorgoeus girls gowns, one has black velvet short sleeve on the top, a band of pearls in the middle, and the bottom is off white tulle all the way down to the floor (also came with a matching doll gown) paid $16.99 found another yesterday for my other daughter, this one was black on top and burgundy tulle all the way down and a nice big gold bow in the middle ($14.99). I just couldnt beat those prices for dress up gowns (my girls love to place dress up and I figure for the price they could use them as dress up pieces and then i figured maybe Disney at the character meals???

You'll see children wearing all kinds of things at these events - from ordinary T-shirts and shorts to fancy dresses to actual Disney princess dresses. Don't worry, they'll be fine.

As long as that is what makes you & your girls happy then leat them wear them. No one will care whether they are disney or not.

As long as your princess is wearing a smile because she is happy, it won't matter one bit what she wears. My DD was :cloud9: wearing her princess-like (but considerably less expensive) dress to CRT for breakfast, and the princesses all commented on how pretty she looked.

So I'd say go for it, no matter what kind of pretty dress it is! DD wore a dress-up dress three out of our six days in the parks and loved every minute of it.

One word of advice, though - you might want to consider bringing a spare dress, or at least be prepared to wash the one you have. DD got maple syrup on her dress at breakfast, catsup at lunch, etc. After the first day, we switched her to a spare dress, which she wore for two days. Neither dress came home in the best of shape, but the pictures we have showing how darn happy DD was made the experience priceless!

When we went to CRT for lunch in Sept. I put my DGD(5) in a denim skort that has white battenburg trim with rhinestones. I put a white cotton shirt with sequins and eyelet trim on her to coordinate. We also put her hair up similar to what BBB would do. She looked so cute and I think it was a good outfit for the occassion and hot weather. Cinderella loved her outfit. She commented how pretty my DGD looked.

So let your girls wear what you/they want. It is sometimes nice to be different. They may get noticed a little more. ;)

Yes, your little princess can wear any gown or dress she desires to Disney:) My DD was three few trips ago and wore a tinkerbell outfit from her dress up set. Last year she didn't want to wear one but when we got there she saw all the other little girls and wanted a dress. We let her pick one there and she used her souviner money towards it, so I recommend bringing one or two with you! I have also heard that some girls even wear the cute princess night gowns from the Disney store because they are lighter, not scratchy, and they travel better too. Have fun whatever she wears!

we saw some princesses who who not dressed in traditional Disney princess costumes. They were still referred to as "princess" by CMs. You will see all types of costumes at many different price points. Have a magical time!

thanks so much everyone for responding! Thats great news that i can get double use out of these dress up clothes.

Anything would work at Disney. I made pillowcase dresses that coordinate with our character dinners. We arent into "princesses" yet in our house. So no Princess costumes just yet.

Generally I don't think they care at all.

The one exception might be a teensy bit of gentle teasing if someone showed up dressed as Fiona from Shrek, being as how that is a Universal face character.

My 8yo DD has been our of the "princess" mode for the last two years, however she very much enjoys dressing up to go to the princess or character meals in her own fancy dresses!! So go for it! She still got wonderful accolades and bows from the cm's!

I was just about to ask the same question...i made my kid's costumes myself and after many hours of work...i just had a little moment of panic thinking that they may not allowed them to be dressed in ''non-disney-made'' dresses. Thank you for asking the question and thank you for all the answer!:goodvibes

They can wear anything.

But do you really want them in black & velvet in the Florida heat? I'm melting just thinking about that.

At WDW, they sell an outfit that is pink one piece outfit with a tulle skirt around the middle (sort of like a mini tutu) that says Princess on the front. It is very cute! My youngest was 11 weeks during her first trip and was a tiny thing and wore one of these. I can't remember which size we have (either 6/9 mos or maybe even 12 mos) but it wasn't huge on her at all.

I also picked up a Disneyland version of this that I keep meaning to post over on the Dis Trades thread that I think is a small infant size. I have to check but I think the only difference from the WDW one is that it is white and that the tag says Disneyland instead of WDW.
