Dress Codes

Hey everyone,

I need some opinions. When we go to Disney I usually just wear shorts and a Shirt with a Disney character on it. (In other words a Disney T-Shirt). I am always neat and clean, but not very dressy.

Is this acceptable dress for going to the restaurants. Now I am not talking about Victoria and Alberts or the really fancy places. But for most of the restaurants in EPCOT and some of the resorts (for example, BOMAs, Ohana's, restaurants in that category.)

My wife seems to think I should wear a dressier shirt. I tell her it is too hot in August and I rather wear my cotton tees. Please give me your opinions on this.

The restaurants in the parks expect folks to be dressed in the prevailing dress of the parks. So you should be fine with your regular park attire.

Restaurants in the resort hotels sometimes are a bit dressier, though that's just a reflection of the fact that some of the folks have had a chance to go back to their rooms and change -- it isn't a requirement to do so, and you won't be too far out of step if you don't.

The top restaurants do have some higher expectations with regard to attire. California Grill and Citricos, for example, prohibit tank tops, and so you can expect to need to wear something a bit dressier in places at that level.

In any park restaurant except Bistro de Paris, it's come as you are.

At the more casual resort restaursnts such as Spoodles, Kona, O'Hana, YC Galley, etc., you'd still be fine, altough if you've been in that t-shirt all day in the heat you might want to carry a fresh one to change into before you sit down to eat. (I hate eating feeling sticky and sweaty!)

The only real requirement is that you are wearing clothing.

Some of the more expensive restaurants outside of the park suggest "business casual" but basically will accept anything other than swimwear or cutoffs (or muscle shirts for men). I routinely wear jeans shorts, Disney T-shirts and sandals especially if going directly from a park. If I had been at my room I would make sure what I was wearing was dry.

I feel much more confident about not looking like a bum.

The shirts I bring to Disney are all brand new. I buy them just for the trip. I always bring more then I need, so I will definitely carry a dry one if going straight from the park, especially in August.

The way I did it last year was go back to the room and shower and then go out for a nice sit-down dinner.

That's what my husband likes most about Disney's restaurants, he's told people for a long time, "I get to go Disney Casual."

I noticed on another website that CALIFORNIA GRILL now suggests
(?) BUSINESS CASUAL rather than RESORT CASUAL so I think that guests there might feel a bit out of place wearing t shirts. And, when you are spending that kind of money for a dinner, I do think you might as well change out of the "doin' the parks" look to make the evening more special...I am going there with 8 girlfriends to celebrate my 50th b'day in November and we are going to "glam it up a bit" for our dinner there...but to each his own. Enjoy!

I usually enjoy getting a little bit snazzy, but I can't imagine wearing anything but a T-shirt in August.

That is the main reason I don't want to wear anything constricting because I sweat like a pig - and I really need to be comfortable in the hot weather.

When I went on my honeymoon 13 years ago in March, I remember getting dressed for some places. But not in August.

I noticed the business casual dress code as well which only made me think of going back to our resort first and the chance to get cooled down, cleaned up and cute little summer dresses for my girlies and flowing long skirt for me. Hubby likes to wear nice golf shirt with khakis but sandal so I think we will all look lovely and fresh to go enjoy a great meal. Now Granny and Grandpa on the other hand will get dressed to the nines but that's what they like to do.

To OP no problem to wear what you like. Other than the posted no bathing suit (as if) and no tank tops (men still wear thoses) Disney is not going to turn away a paying customer

In fact, I called today to reschedule California Grill for our upcoming trip and I was advised of the dress code. Collared shirts for me, "smart casual". Capris are fine for women, NO FLIP FLOPS! The "no flip flops" are tough. I love flip flops but I will wear my regular sandals.

I am staying at the AKL, and will be eating at the boma resturant, are shorts o.k (proper shorts ) and should your top have a collar?

Boma tends to be casual and family oriented. For Jiko, I would definitely dress up a little more.

Having said that, everyone has their own opinions and definitions of dress code. If a restaurant DOES state one, that I believe that it should be respected.

No flip flops??!! That's all my daughter wears The 'nicer' ones look good with skirts/dresses. When I made ressies for CG they mentioned the 'business casual' clothing attire but said nothing about no flip flops ~~

Hey, if women can wear flip-flops to the Oval Office for a visit with the President they should be acceptable for the CG

The Oval Office was probably too polite at that point to say anything about it. I've seen the "fancy" flips and they're just that - decorated flops.

Hey, no lie, last week though we had a flip flop fly by our table at a nice restaurant, then watched the embarrassed girl walk in her bare foot across the way to pick it up (that was gross somehow). I guess she had her legs crossed at the knees and was bouncing it when it went. It could've been worse it could have landed on our table - that would have been....grosser.

Interesting question though on what the difference between flip flops and tyva's turns out to be.

By the way, Stemikger, I used to love T-shirts too and thought it was too hot for anything else, but I've changed my mind.
Go to a sporting goods store and check out today's golf shirts - not only are they more stylish than ever, but there are types that whick away water, sweat and tears, some are specifically designed to keep you cooler. For added benefit as a souvenir get one with a Disney logo (that's what my DH has been doing for years). Prices range from $35 to $75 on up. Well worth it though, my brother who sweats like the outside of an iced tea glass - is constantly asking us to buy him another one. (AND some brands don't wrinkle so you always look hot, I mean cool, you know what I mean).
