Dress codes @ WDW

So sorry for causing fights. Never intended too. Simple questions asked, sparked a feud. I like to clear up some items;

1) Not a nudist - It's my culture (been to southbeach 10 year ago topless everwhere)
2) Not a troll ( I looked up this troll - very unkind) -not looking for problem
3) I am not a male, I can asure you all. My first name is Jeanne from france thus JeanFR. Notice how the FR is in capital. Amazing how you can tell im not who I say I am from a name on screen.
4) I only wanted 2 simple anwers to a questions. I have other questions, unreleated to my first two. Iam scared to ask.
5) To all who answered my questions, Thank you. Advise taken
6) To all those who got angry, Sorry to have caused conflict.

Don't be scared ask away. Funnily enough for Magic loving Disney Addicts some are very lacking in the pixie dust.

Someone will always answer the question appropriately,

Kirsten

I have not replied to this thread until now but I am saddened to hear that someone now feels they cannot ask other questions, etc due to how they were treated on here. Please don't get discouraged and ask what you want to ask -- this is a discussion forum after all and to those who claimed it must be a troll because of limited posts. Every one of us had a low posting number at one point.

I think people may have thought "troll" because of the nature of your question and your low post count. But it seems as if you're simply a new member to the boards so: :welcome:

And please, do ask your other questions on the boards as well. I've found this board to be a wealth of knowledge relating to WDW.

I also feel badly for the OP. Too many people do get jumped on here, when the board is for people to ask questions they do not know the answer to. Unfortunately, the 'real' trolls make people jump some times at some of the questions. I hope the OP feels comfortable enough to ask the rest of her questions and have a wonderful vacation at WDW. :thumbsup2

Regarding topless sunbathing by women... It isn't really done in the US, except for the rare place that allows it. (Actually, RI had a nude beach for most of my childhood. The only reason they closed it was because there were rare piping plovers nesting there. It wasn't a nudity issue.) While I personally am not particularly comfortable seeing topless women at beaches (just the way we're brought up here, no offense) I am equally concerned by the "moobs" on overweight men. They are larger than many women's and there lies an odd double standard.

Troll or not? It seems to me that accusation is tossed around a lot, and while it is often valid, many times it is not, and the consequences of that are never positive.

Here would be my suggestion: whatever your instincts tell you about a poster, assume that they are being earnest and sincere and respond in kind. That way, you annoy the trolls and provide helpful information to those who aren't! :goodvibes

Il est illégale pour vous prende le soleil aux seins nus dans l'Etates-Unis. Avec regret, c'est la loi. Je respect votre culture mais..."c'est la vie". C'est un dommage si vous me demandez.

I've been lurking for a while and didn't intend to become a poster but...

You do realize that "Jean" is not a girl's name in French...The OP's signature is JeanFr, which can only stand for Jean-François, definitely a man's name.

SO when he says he doesnt wear a bra in summer...how do you say troll in French? Lutin?
ITA. I had more of an issue with the OPs second post-she/he basically said we were ignorant and backwards about nudity. I'm sorry, but very few people can get away with looking good nude. The rest of us don't need to see someone's saggy breasts and fat rolls on display. Or hairy European dudes in Speedos.

If feeling that way makes me mean or an obnoxious American, then fine. I will not apologize for my country or for my opinion. And also, I think the original question was a silly one. There are places in Europe where you can't sunbathe topless.. Still think it was meant to stir the pot. And the word "intolerant" is overused much like the word "troll". Am I intolerant? Yes, about certain things, PC culture being chief among them.

Hard as it is to believe, there are places that look at our attitude toward showing the human body in almost the same way we look at the Saudi attitude. If there were a Saudi board and you asked if it was ok for your ankle to show they'd pounce all over you just the way we did to this woman.
I personally am a bit embarrassed by the way we reacted...it's intolerant.

 this.

The previous post was in French. if you want a translation here is what was said.

It is illegal for you sunbath topless. Regretfully, it is the law. I respect your culture but... "c'est la vie". It is a pity if you ask me.

Thank you...I got all but the "pity"...
Jean...
What were your other questions?

In the name of cultural sensitivity, I hereby nominate that the girls who work in the France part of the World Showcase be allowed to work topless.

I love that! Someone once told me the best way to tick someone off who is angry at you, is to be as polite as you can be to them. :lmao:

C'est trois ou quatre piscines en Las Vegas ou prende le soleil aux seins nus est "Okay". Ils sont "Piscines Europeans".

I read the whole post and didn't see anything that I would consider mean.
Of course, I have a pretty sarcastic sense of humor and am not offended easily, so YMMV. Maybe being easily offended by jokes and sarcastic remarks is just a part of European culture. :)

To be honest, I agree with the OP's criticism of the American view on nudity and the human body, but I think that post is what sparked some defensiveness. Criticizing one's culture tends to make people defensive and that goes both ways.

OP, feel free to ask whatever other questions you want on this board. If anyone makes nasty comments or "attacks" you, brush it off as part of internet message board culture. For the most part, this board is filled with lots of nice people who will be happy to answer whatever questions you have.

I'm sure there are many states where being topless is ok in certain places. In NY you may not stop a woman from public breast feeding - and I'm pretty sure we are legally allowed to be topless in general - but I'm not 100% certain about it.

In Maine, there is no law barring anyone from going topless.
There have been a couple of demonstrations recently by groups of women who wished to spread the word, and show that there should be nothing to be ashamed of. Of course, these demonstrations lured in crowds of people, men and women, who just wanted to take pictures of the event.
Since our summers tend to only last a day or two (or so it seems) it's probably not the best place to want to try it.
That being said, I fully agree that we should take questions at face value, and answer them as best we can, instead of assuming the worst.
It doesn't take any more time to provide an answer than it does do analyze whether the question is legitimate or not
