Dress codes @ WDW

Well.. sunbathing topless is pretty much illegal, and for the sake of the thousands of people you will encounter whilst in the parks, I would go the extra step of wearing a bra. You should consider a sports bra.

As to the other post, I will just keep my mouth shut and leave it as 'cultural differences'...

op. cant answer until i see a pic of the girls.

Jean,
I've spent alot of time in Europe and I think it's great that you are not so hung up over the human body over there, but you don't want to try to go topless here....
For one, the staff and female guests will get upset, and for two, the men will gawk at you. To europeans, breasts are a way to feed babies. To americans they are sexual parts of the body.
As for no bra, I think that's fine. No one will stop you, but keep in mind that if your breasts are very obvious there will be alot of men staring at you....that doesn't happen in europe and it may make you uncomfortable.
When I was a flight attendant and we'd wind up in a country where topless sunbathing was the norm, I always wanted to do it...but I didn't...why you ask? One word...pilots.
Have a great time anyway!!! I'd like to make it to Disney Europe some day!

If you honestly didn't know about the sunbathing--now you do--it's illegal. We just don't do that in public here.

There are some places that allow nude sunbathing. I know there is one in Florida, one of my co-workers talks about her sister and her fondness for nude sunbathing, and apparently there are some places in Florida that allow it.

However, in general, you have to wear a swimsuit top in public. Some women wear rather small ones, but you do have to have some cloth covering your breasts.

hmmmm.. only the 2nd post by the OPpopcorn::popcorn:::rolleyes1:rolleyes1

It's possible that it's intentional..but I have a feeling she was just looking for an American board to see if she could get a sense of what she's allowed to do here. Hard as it is to believe, there are places that look at our attitude toward showing the human body in almost the same way we look at the Saudi attitude. If there were a Saudi board and you asked if it was ok for your ankle to show they'd pounce all over you just the way we did to this woman.
I personally am a bit embarrassed by the way we reacted...it's intolerant.

Yeah, that's exciting....let's see weiners and ****s all day....are you trying to decrease the population?
Lol.. Too true. OP, going topless at WDW is not allowed. Also, while going braless is not prohibited per se, you may find yourself on the People of the Park website( it may go back online).

I think most people here consider bras pretty standard, like underwear. There's no rule against going braless, but if you do and it's noticeable people might be a bit offended. I'd probably just think you were dressed for comfort.

The US is not the only country that doesn't allow topless sunbathing. Just try it in the Middle East - most places there you'll be executed.

I'll add for the benefit of the OP in case this was a serious post, that bikini tops and similar alone are not generally allowed in the parks - you need to wear a coverup or shirt.

And EVERYONE here has had a first post. I bet most of them would be considered similar :)

OP, what it comes down to is you have to try to adjust to the culture you're in while vacationing. I wouldn't go to your country and complain that there are ****ies free in the breeze on all the beaches..that's what you do there, so fine.

As for being offended by the jokes, thats just how we are here. We figure if you're adult enough to post on a discussion board, you're adult enough to take some teasing. No one meant to be mean, I'm sure. And if they did, so what?

Not every American allows their children to watch or play violent TV, movies, or videos, it's just a select few that many notice. As for my view on human bodies, no the body does not bother me, it's the way the media protrays it. I'm sick of deathly skinny women/girls and huge muscled men. I'm just fine with a REAL human body and would be fine with my boys seeing that. HOWEVER, at Disney I do not want to have to flip my son for looking and making someone uncomfortable:scared1:. Keep your swimsiut on, and wear a bra, your pictures will turn out nicer:laughing: and your fellow traveler will be more comfortable. By the way, welcome to the USA, we are actually pretty nice over here!!:flower3:

As an American who lived in Europe for 3 months - I was very uncomfortable with how Europeans have no shame in showing their bodies out in public. It definately was a culture shock :scared1:

I would say yes there is certain places you can sunbath topless in FL but Disney is not one of them.

I cannot tell if you're being tongue-in-cheek or not, but assuming you are not, why should a European, or anybody for that matter, feel shame showing their bodies? There is nothing wrong with the human body, and while culturally we tend to cover up more in the USA than in much of the world, I cannot imagine why anybody should be ashamed of the one thing that they came into the world with.

Well I didn't mean be ashamed of their body - guess it was more of a cultural shock for me. If you are happy with your body then flaunt it but I know when I was in Europe I guess I felt uncomfortable thats it.

Isn't there a Disney park in FRANCE for you to do that?

No there isn't. Topless is absolute no in Disney Paris thank god. To be honest the weather is for almost 98% to cold for even going outside without a coat:lmao:
As for the rest the OP speaks for a very few "Europeans".
99% of us "Europeans" are not running around half naked. You only see the most extravagant on TV. Kind of we would think all Americans would be like Paris Hilton or Ockto Mama.

Like we felt on the Miami beaches? Way to much "things" hanging free. Or so many things blown out of proportion by silicon. Are all Americans filled with that that stuff? Of course not. Again that is only Miami beach but that is what the world sees on the great big lie screen.

I think the first has been answered enough
as for the second - bra question - I think that depends on how you look
bra size a or b - I could see going without a bra with no problems
when you get bigger - then you have some sagging issues (more the older you are for the time without bra)
also color - if you have a big skin color differents then wearing a light color top, getting wet, the darker color will stand out

So, by the OP's second post, we should believe that all Europeans wander around with their private bits out in the open?

No, of course not. And guess what, not ALL Americans watch violent shows and play violent video games all day long.

There is a niche in the society that are in to this violence, just as there is a niche in Europe who are nudists. I've been to beaches all over Europe, and I'd say about a quarter of the women were topless. Definetly less than half.

The stereotypes that make it across the pond (in both directions) are laughable.

But having said that, I do like some of the reactions calling for photographic evidence. That is typical of American humor.

You have to keep in mind that in the U.S. there's a certain "movie" business that is worth multi-billions. Plus, I think that sort of stuff we feel is a private matter, not public. As to the video game violence, so many pros and cons, once again, a private matter. So, as we are a FREE country, it's a matter of individualistic privacy. Now Disney on the other hand. DISNEY ROCKS!!! And... I hope you enjoy your trip! :thumbsup2

Sigh...the OP wasn't asking i she can be a nudist. She was asking if it's ok to go topless at the pool..not on Dumbo.
And it IS very common in Europe - not sure where that european who posted actually lives...maybe Great Britain - which is more like us...but I spent the better of 6 years mostly in Europe.....many countries and many beaches, and topless is very common and not thought of as a flaunting of sex...it's just mammory glands...most of the european cultures don't look at a topless woman any differently than they look at a topless man.
And as for bras...I really hate wearing them - they are very uncomfortable for me and I stick to sports bras...I really wish I lived in a society where my breasts didn't have to be "contained" to be acceptable!
