Dress codes @ WDW

Really?? You don't think it's strange? Is it something you would ever even consider asking on any message board in a way of introducing yourself??

Did you read the rest of the thread? She wasn't introducing herself, she was asking a question. Just as I might ask a question about being able to do something that is ok at home but may not be where i am traveling.
Plenty of Europeans sunbathe topless....the women are allowed to do it just as the men are. She just wanted to know what the pool etiquette was here so that she could comply with it.
She also asked a question about the best fireworks to see...do you fin that one suspicious too?

No I did not read the entire 6 page thread. I just happened to go on here during a small break at work and read the first post - which I still find quite amusing. That's just my opinion though. And I didn't see any posts about fireworks. I guess I only read the interesting parts :lmao:. Ok carry on.

Exactly... Not a question about park hours or resorts, the priority was going topless.. Weird.

If you have ever lived or visited mainland Europe, which I have to both, it's not a weird question at all.

Sorry, yes it is. If I've never been to a place my first question is not going to be about my breasts and whether or not I can show them. Maybe she didn't mean anything by it but people are entitled to feel that there's something fishy about that.

Just a reminder of the DISboards posting guidelines, folks:

2. NO PROFANITY
Simply put, don't use swear words and don't post or link to suggestive or inappropriate photos. The boards are equipped with censoring software. If you try to use a profanity, it will be filtered and appear as all asterisks. Please don't get creative in an attempt to bypass the filters. This is considered the same as using the word itself and will result in an infraction. If you post or link to pornography, you'll be banned from our site.

I have issued warnings to posters in this thread who have violated this guideline and have deleted several messages that quoted the offending text. Please keep the discussion on a family-friendly level or this thread will be closed. Thanks.

The US is not the only country that doesn't allow topless sunbathing. Just try it in the Middle East - most places there you'll be executed.

LOL LOL

I don't think this thread is real. Yes we all have a "first post," but really - not too many of us start out with this question, or one similar. Most are, "Is TSM really all it's cracked up to be?" or "Can someone tell me if this scenario will work?" or "Are strollers really necessary for my 9 month old?" or something like that.

Definitely an original questions, not something we can see every day on Dis. To OP, glad you try to learn customs of the country you plan to visit, not everyone does it, unfortunately.
Disney is a family resort and it means clothes on. Even on NY beaches you would get attention being topless, although it is not forbitten. I believe Miami is more open to this kind of things but definitely not Disney.
As for second question, keep in mind water rides, even with a bra you may look naked sometimes being wet and you get an idea how you may look without one. If nothing is seen it is up to you bra or no bra, whatever makes you comfortable.
Now back to reading, must be good.:rolleyes1

I cannot tell if you're being tongue-in-cheek or not, but assuming you are not, why should a European, or anybody for that matter, feel shame showing their bodies? There is nothing wrong with the human body, and while culturally we tend to cover up more in the USA than in much of the world, I cannot imagine why anybody should be ashamed of the one thing that they came into the world with.

Perhaps the word here would be "reservation" as opposed to shame. Just like how people say they are "anxious" to go to WDW when they are really thinking "eager."

Perhaps she had done all her research about the parks already?!? She was asking a specific question about doing something at the resort pool, which would be fine in many places in Europe.

Exactly. Maybe she was smart enogh to do a search for threads about her other questions...but she couldn't find anything on this topic.
She also asked which fireworks would be best if she was only going to pick one...having children that she wanted to get to bed early most nights...another question that wouldn't come up quickly on a search...
It's so frustrating to see my own countrymen being so judgemental and assumptious... we have such an awesome country and we put such an ugly face on it sometimes! :sad1:

I'm doing a 4 country, 11 park run in April. Maybe I should find out what is or isn't appropriate in those parks:scared1:

Anybody recommend something not to do in HKDL or DLTokyo that I need to know about? (Been to DLP and my DH to DLTokyo but it's been a while)

And no, not being sarcastic, curious who has been to HKDL so I don't mess around and do the wrong thing- I will be on a tight schedule...

As far as JeanFR is concerned, welcome to WDW. Ja mappel (did I spell that right) Trey's Mommy, aka Holly. WDW will overwhelm you in reference to DLP, simply by the sheer size alone. I must say- Crush's Ride and Space Mountain in DLP is by far superior to what we have at WDW, so kudos to you.

I would also love to PM you as they had merchandise in the DLP that I cannot get here and would love to know if they still have it so I can make sure to stop to buy it and ship it home if need be. (Cost more to ship it than it did to buy it though)

You should learn about those places, never know what can be against the law. I do not remember where exactly but I remember the gum is against the law, go figure!:confused3

I'm, no expert, but I've spent some time in a few asian countries, the biggest difference I notice is that they have no sense of "personal space". In China for instance, it's perfectly normal for your neighbor to walk right into your house without knocking...it's community as the main unit rather than individual family. In Korea, if you're standing in line, it's not unusual for someone to actually be standing right against your back behind you. They are not being rude...it's just the way they are - so, if you find people pressed up against you, or actually moving you to the side to get past you...just take a deep breath and realize it's just a cultural thing.

Going topless is prohibited at Disney and so is going bottomless unless your name is Donald Duck.
I can go bottomless? Or is that just for cousin DonaldFDuck?:confused3
But since the post is about the pool, notice that when Donald comes out, he has to wear a towel.
OP, just because so many of us act foolish from time to time, don't stop asking questions. On here we get the same 10 questions over and over, so something really original throws folks. We are the most modest modern society, yet no group gets more ridicule here than churches that practice modesty in a way that almost looks like a uniform. Go figure.

In America (and certainly here on the boards) you have to consider the lowest common denominator. If one person gets offended and makes a big enough scene you'll be asked to leave. That's just how it is. Disney doesn't want some religious nut taking a pic of you sans-bra and sending it to the news, law and everyone else, along with a story about how "concerned" they were for the children, and how Disney did nothing about it. Just do a search about the dance squad at DTD and you'll get the idea. We're not the prudes people think we are, it's just that at the end of the day, the prudes get the say.

But american would rather see blood and guts, and let there children watch, but show a breast....

Don't stereotype! Ok, you got the first one right, but I'm definitely against the second and all for the third :)

Weird, my double post appeared in 2 hours.:scared1:

Of cousre I would only sunbath if it was allowed.
I'am ok looking at. I wear DG t shirts, and tank top.

Very upset at reaction to post #1, In Europe most beaches are Clothing option. Topless Everywear. Not looking for sarcasim

What is funny to me is I Love the USA. But you show so much voilence on Tv and Cinema and allow your children to play Video tv game. and that is ok. A human being shows skin on TV. The whole country shut down and protest.

In Europe, hardly an violence on TV, Cinema yes. Nudity all over the TV. including commercial. The human body come in all shapes and sizes. But american would rather see blood and guts, and let there children watch, but show a breast....

First let me say that I am sorry you had to read the sarcatic comments on this board some people should remember what they were tought when they were young...If you have nothing nice to say don't say anything. And if they were not tought this it is never to late to learn! :)

Second you are correct in this country we are tought to cover our body, that it is a thing to be hidden and not talked about kept secret and forbidden and then wonder why teen pregnancy is a problem, it is wrong. Education and openess is a better answer. One day we will learn (I hope) from others who have been around longer.

Last I hope you have a fabulous time at Disney World :flower3:
