Okay, all school's have a dress code. I know this.
But I think that my school's NEW dresscode; yes new; is ridiculous.
•Before; our skirts could be anywhere from our thumbs down when we were standing up straight. Now it has to be four inches above our knees. Now; I'm not really a big skirt wearer, so this rule doesn't really affect me.
•Before; Our shirts just couldn't show cleavage. Standing, squatting or sitting. Now it can only be 2-3 fingers below the place where your collarbones meet. This one affects me greatly. All of my shirts are below there. The only shirts I have that don't go so far down, are 6 teeshirts and 2 turtlenecks. I hope they don't expect us to wear those in the spring time or summer; if we're in school that late.
•Before; We could wear any tights we wanted. They never said anything about sheer or opaque. Now they are insisting that we wear opaque tights only.
Now; the following is kind of ridiculous (well, not the actual rule, but the reasoning)---
• No showing any bra-like straps of any kind. ---We discussed this, and somebody asked about spaghetti straps, like what if they were showing; the answer: If it resembles a bra, we will automatically assume it is one, and we will ask you to try and cover it up.
• No headbands of any kind. ---We discussed this too, old people at my school (no offense) have no clue what a headband is. To me a headband is a plastic semi-ish-circle that is used to hold your hair back. The princapal said if she said if she saw any she'd make you take it off. What's up with that?
• No showing your underwear, boxers, thongs, breifs or anything that resembles them. --- Yes, we discussed this one too. So, it's not like you can help what goes on behind you. Of course your underwear are bound to show sometimes. And we talked about guys and their boxers. Well, the lady said that if you have on sweatpants and gym shorts on underneath and any teachers think that it's boxers you will be escourted to the office for a belt.
None of the rules have ever been this strict; and I know that they are trying to maintain our "Perfect Reputation" but it's not going to work. Nobody is going to follow the rules. They don't do it now; why would they if you made the rules harder to follow. My school is going to keep on and keep on and they are going to make it even harder for us to dress for school; and lots of people are going to get fed up and quit. (which mind you isn't really a good thing for the repuation) And the only thing that my school can't do is make us wear uniforms.
Ugh.
So now that I'm finished ranting about our new [and ridiculous] dresscode; what do you all think? Is it reasonable? Not reasonable? Do you have a certain dress code you just can't stand?

Oh, I thought I'd put it out there that I'm in public school.
I don't get it.
