Okay, all school's have a dress code. I know this.
But I think that my school's NEW dresscode; yes new; is ridiculous.

•Before; our skirts could be anywhere from our thumbs down when we were standing up straight. Now it has to be four inches above our knees. Now; I'm not really a big skirt wearer, so this rule doesn't really affect me.
•Before; Our shirts just couldn't show cleavage. Standing, squatting or sitting. Now it can only be 2-3 fingers below the place where your collarbones meet. This one affects me greatly. All of my shirts are below there. The only shirts I have that don't go so far down, are 6 teeshirts and 2 turtlenecks. I hope they don't expect us to wear those in the spring time or summer; if we're in school that late.
•Before; We could wear any tights we wanted. They never said anything about sheer or opaque. Now they are insisting that we wear opaque tights only.

Now; the following is kind of ridiculous (well, not the actual rule, but the reasoning)---

• No showing any bra-like straps of any kind. ---We discussed this, and somebody asked about spaghetti straps, like what if they were showing; the answer: If it resembles a bra, we will automatically assume it is one, and we will ask you to try and cover it up.

• No headbands of any kind. ---We discussed this too, old people at my school (no offense) have no clue what a headband is. To me a headband is a plastic semi-ish-circle that is used to hold your hair back. The princapal said if she said if she saw any she'd make you take it off. What's up with that?

• No showing your underwear, boxers, thongs, breifs or anything that resembles them. --- Yes, we discussed this one too. So, it's not like you can help what goes on behind you. Of course your underwear are bound to show sometimes. And we talked about guys and their boxers. Well, the lady said that if you have on sweatpants and gym shorts on underneath and any teachers think that it's boxers you will be escourted to the office for a belt.

None of the rules have ever been this strict; and I know that they are trying to maintain our "Perfect Reputation" but it's not going to work. Nobody is going to follow the rules. They don't do it now; why would they if you made the rules harder to follow. My school is going to keep on and keep on and they are going to make it even harder for us to dress for school; and lots of people are going to get fed up and quit. (which mind you isn't really a good thing for the repuation) And the only thing that my school can't do is make us wear uniforms.
Ugh.
So now that I'm finished ranting about our new [and ridiculous] dresscode; what do you all think? Is it reasonable? Not reasonable? Do you have a certain dress code you just can't stand?
:headache:

Oh, I thought I'd put it out there that I'm in public school.

The underwear showing is reasonable to me.
I can understand if your underwear accidently shows, but those who's pants hang around the thigh area need a belt.

The headband and tights one also doesnt make sense to me..it's a public school..:confused3

We dont really have weird dresscode rules at my school.
Mainly its:
- No sunglasses
- No hats
- No short skirts
- No sagging pants
- No doo rags
- No tank tops
- No short cut tops
- I.D must be showing around your neck, this is for the teachers as well.

I don't get the no headbands or tights rule. Those are really stupid. Also, the one about the no shirt lower than 2 to 3 fingers below the collarbone...I just tried that and the basic tshirt I have on from kmart right now goes lower than that so I think that is very unreasonable.

Haha, nevermind. Just got it. (:

That's bizarre, and so is the whole no headband/tights thing.

No headbands? I don't get it.

Mine is basically:

-Skirts have to be finger-tip length when held at your sides
- Ripped jeans or skirts have to be below finger-tip length. If they are above, they have to be smaller than a quarter
- any shoes you want
- shirt straps have to be 3 fingers length [which sucks for me because I have big fingers]
- no underwear showing

No headbands? Really?

Mine says:
The inseam of shorts must be 5 inches
Skirts must reach the fingertips when your standing up.
No tank tops
and just the other basic stuff,

The headbands rule is weird.

My old school dress code was insane. I dont have enough time to type it all out. It would take hours. The book that had our dress code in it was about 20 pages long.

I don't have one now though. :goodvibes

The only one I can't really get is the headbands? Okaay...xD

We have uniforms, but we can get uniform infractions. I almost got one for wearing yellow leggings even though our colors are green and gold? xD Also some people wear long sleeve shirts under their polos and apparently they can only be black and white. And a bunch of other stuff, I can't really remember but some of them are really dumb.

I have a uniform, but uh.. here's some other rules we have.

  • No jewellery
  • Black shoes only.
  • No visible tees undo your polo short.
  • One stud earring in each ear is permitted.
  • No scarves allowed in lessons.
  • Dark coloured coats.
  • No extreme make-up.

FYI, if you're in public school yes they can make you wear uniforms. (At least in PA) They get around it by saying it is "standardized dress" instead of "uniform". One of the public school districts near me have it, and 2 other school districts including mine are considering it. I hope to GOD we have standardized dress - I can't see any more cracks or ******* or my eyes will BURN! Breasts, butts, cracks, muffin tops, camel toes, badly coloured hair galore! Ew.

The only thing that bothers me are the headbands? What the heck?

:rotfl:

No hats
No sunglasses
No outerwear in classrooms
No bandanas
Skirts must been finger length
Shorts must be to you palm
No PJs
No low cut shirts, or tank tops.
No chains
That's it I think.

Those are all mine. lol

I can get the underwear and cleavage and skirt thing.

The headbands and tights throw me.

But as for underwear. We had a big issue here a few years ago where guys were wearing the waistband of their pants under their butts (so, it was pretty much their butt covered in boxers and then the pants would start). And girls were wearing thongs pulled up and shorts pulled down. It was gross.

Cleavage...I don't want to see your ****s, thanks. I understand some outfits show it, but when I can see the design on your bra because your shirt's so low, that bothers me.

Skirts. I really, really, really don't want to know what's on your panties if you bend over or sit down.

That's why those rules are in our handbook.

We can wear headbands, but not bandanas (because of "gang" incidents. Dude...really...I live in the whitest town in NH).

No headbands :confused3 Gosh, I'd die. I'm not talking about the plastic one's, I mean the ones that are like big ponytails, I always make sure I have one with me! Anyways..

The last school I went to :
polo shirts, colors:
red, grey, and white. (school colors)
and khaki's or navy pants.
-only white undershirts.
-tucked in shirts.
-belt.
-no sagging.
-no flip flops.
-no pullovers/hoodies.
uhmm, thats about it.. nothing to bad.

The school I went to until fifth grade, where my sister graduated
from, my bf goes, and all my friends, they are horribly strict.
each grade has their own 'shirt color' hmm, white, light blue, hunter green, and purple I believe. and khaki pants.
-brown belt.
-tucked in.
-two/three buttons on the polo's. not suppose to show the undershirt at all.
-idk if you'll know what I'm talking about but on the side of the pants it can't
be double threaded only one.. kinda pointless? i know.
-tennis shoes, or brown shoes.
-white socks, (they will check!)
-if girls have ribbons they have to be white, purple, or gold. (school colors)

on Friday during football season you can wear jeans, and a spirit shirt.

Oh, I thought I'd put it out there that I'm in public school.

I can get the underwear and bra things. Both are put on underneath clothes and thats where they should stay. Boys should learn to wear belts. I understand an accidental showing but I know a lot of people that wear there underwear like that because they want to.

The skirt is also pretty reasonable, and I can see where the school is comimg from with shirt thing. 2-3 Fingers below where the collarbone meets for me is pretty fardown so can you try to explain this to me more.

I have a uniform too and we have all the same rules except the no jewelery. Thats crazy I dont know what I would do if I couldn't wear jewelery.

I'm lucky. My school has a loose dress code and they barely enforce it XD As long as you don't have a hat on and are wearing your ID, they really don't care.
