Hi all

Can you wear smart shorts in palo? Chino type ones? I currently have chinos (long) packed for my husband but wondering if he needs them?

Also are toms (canvas shoes) ok for palo dinner?

Thank you

I just got off the Fantasy a few weeks ago. I live in Florida and am constantly in shorts. Only about twice a year do I have to put on long pants (jeans). Same for while I was onboard EXCEPT for Palo. I had to wear jeans. In August. It was brutal. :P But wellllllll worth it!

Ok, first of all this is a joke, but the underlying point is just because it is “nice” does it make it OK? So here goes - If I push that guy overboard, but it is a nice push, is that OK?

As far as the shorts and shoes that were mentioned, probably too much risk to try. If the Tom’s shoes are not too casual (depending on color and style some seem to be dressier than others) they might be possible, especially if paired with a nice pair of pants. While I was joking above with the whole slippery slope argument above there are some grey areas with dress code since you are on a cruise vacation. So the shoes might be possible if the rest of the outfit conforms to the dress code and they match the outfit.

No need to be rude! I think I’m the only person who can push him overboard... lol. Thanks everyone, will keep the chinos packed!

I never said YOUR him, it was a generalization. Now there is evidence of motive. Don’t do it.😀

Have a good cruise and enjoy Palo!

Had to skip Palo last cruise. Only packed shorts and Birkenstocks. Not sure why this is no problem in 3 star Michelin restaurants Seattle yet Disney refuses to let me in.

Disney’s game, Disney’s rules. The dress code is easily found. If you do not want to dress per the code, that is your choice. You’ll miss a great experience IMHO. But the code is there.

Agreed. I live in shorts practically year round. My "dress shorts" (totally a thing in certain climates) are more formal looking than most jeans, only a really crisp dark wash might seem more formal. I can certainly agree that there should be no gym shorts or cut offs but if they allow jeans, I should think nicer shorts would also be ok. I will give you that even my nicest Birks arent all that formal looking but my feet are horrible so I need those or some sort of custom orthotic or I will pay dearly and Ive yet to find a pair of dressy shoes that will fit the orthotics.

And that is why they don't allow shorts, because "nicer shorts" opens up too much ambiguity and opinion. ("These are my nicer shorts; all of the other ones have holes and grease stains!") Personally, I would prefer to keep the line at dress slacks/khakis or something nicer than jeans (I wore a tie to the Palo brunch). But, I'm one of the people who likes a chance to 'dress up' for nicer meals and brought a tux for my last formal night and a suit for the semi-formal night. (To be perfectly honest, the best part is my wife in the fancy gown for formal night or a fancy dress for semi-formal night; I'm just wearing the corresponding level of formality!)

I agree....I used to bring long gowns but so few do anymore that I just bring cocktail-type dress. Hubby brings suit, not tux. We are going to northern European next year...seems like it might be dressier...hoping!

Jean's with no holes are allowed at brunch. Dress slacks fo dinner no tennis shoes or flip flops.

For Palo, the dress code is the same for brunch and dinner, so jeans are allowed for both (by Palo, not my wife :-) )

At Palo: The elegant northern Italian-inspired dining venue aboard all 4 ships.
Dinner and Brunch
  • Men: dress pants or slacks and collared shirt; jacket is optional
  • Women: dress, skirt or pants with a blouse
  • Jeans may be worn if in good condition (no holes)
