Ooo. I don't want to be the first poster after a moderator has weighed in on the subject. If this thread is an example of fighting, then the DIS boards really *are* the most civilized and restrained boards on the Internet! Y'all have all been really nice to each other.
I don't have an informed opinion of the
DDP yet, and whether it has changed the level of service at WDW restaurants. I'm looking forward to forming that opinion in September, thank heaven, because I *finally* have another trip planned. It has been way too long since I was able to dine there!
That said... I just found out today that because I got our room at a steep discount, my family doesn't qualify for the DDP at all. In order to add the DDP to our trip, I would have to forfeit our stunning discount on our BC room. I ran the numbers and double-checked my math (always an arduous task, becasue I just am not all that good at math), and it seems to me that you either pay through the nose for the room, or you pay through the nose for dining. You can't get a bargain on *both*.
Since it's six of one, half-dozen of the other, my husband and I chose to retain our discount on the room and forego the DDP. It honestly works out evenly in our case.
So all I can really add to this thread is that our Yachtsman Steakhouse reservations for our son's 14th birthday on Sept. 29th are still in place. We plan to order whatever we want, whatever the birthday boy wants, and we all plan to wear pretty darned casual "business casual" clothes. (I might rustle up a dress; DH and DS will probably find khaki shorts and button-down shirts. Lord only knows what my wild child DD will wear.) Regardless of our attire, I have every intention of getting steak and lobster and some kind of killer dessert. I might pay full price for it, but trust me, I will find a way to eat every single bite.
Why? Because we'll be on vacation. And on vacation, it's All About The Food.
