Dress Code Update; For the worriers

Don't say that about Jiko! I've been waiting years to dine there and plan to finally have a meal there on my bday in Sept.

And while we're using free dining, we will be paying OOP for that meal. I hope it's good...

Again with Jiko, most of my experiences here have been very good (although it's never been as consistent as FF or Artist Point). My last one wasn't great but it's still a very fine restaurant.

You can only use these reviews as basic guidelines and watch to see if a certain complaint keeps getting generated over and over. Trends are the concerning issue, IMO.

At this point Jiko is no worry, IMO...I just had a less than perfect last visit, that's all.

Thanks for putting that into perspective. I think we will try it. Now I've got to decide whether to use two credits of DP or pay OOP with our DDE discount. (I forgot our DDE card doesn't expire until October.)

My recollection of rules from fashion 101 is that as long as it is out under 2 inches, it is considered stylish, over two inches is considered in poor taste (unless it is fuschia, in which case it is acceptable). :)

So, checking out the entire DIS boards, what we have is 10% of the people feeling that things have gotten a lot worse, and 90% of the people feeling that things have gotten a lot better. Seems like an easy decision...

byoung - you might find entry difficult with just shorts :rotfl:
Sorry, I couldn't resist that. Have fun :thumbsup2

There is no question that the Dining Plan is adversely affecting anyone who doesn't use it.

Not really sure how you came up with your numbers and I am not really sure which view is really yours.

Both views are mine.

The numbers are readily apparent to anyone reading the boards. There are a handful of people complaining about how things have gone downhill, while there are dozens gushing about how great the Dining Plan is.

Of course bicker doesn't take into account that many of the "complainers", like myself are local who dine at these restaurants far more frequently than most others on the DIS...But if our repeated visits carry no weight to some, so be it. Believe me I do not want WDW food quality to go south but since the advent of 'Disney meal plans' things have not been quite the same.

Are you suggesting that Disney doesn't take you into account? :) I'm sure they do, but only in the proportionate measure. If 10% of the people generate 30% of the profit, it still would make sense to bias service offerings in favor of the 90% of the people who generate 70% of the profit.

Well, you've lost me...I'm only suggesting that those of us who visit the WDW restaurants frequently (at least twice monthly in my case) may have a more up to date perspective on the quality of the food and service than those who only vacation periodically. Some of us feel the quality has been slipping in a manner that very coincidentally coincides with the infamous Disney Dining Plan. That's it. No discussion that Disney is making a business mistake or ignoring the locals (at least not in this thread). I'm simply stating my observations to be taken at face value as one guest who just had an experience not equal to previous experiences at Artist Point.

Hi everyone,

I know that when we discuss food at WDW and the quality of said food sometimes we can get a little passionate about our opinions.

I am going to ask you here to just keep that in mind when posting......let's keep this thread open without the arguing.

We all have our opinions, can't agree all the time, but we can discuss nicely.

Thank you.

Ooo. I don't want to be the first poster after a moderator has weighed in on the subject. If this thread is an example of fighting, then the DIS boards really *are* the most civilized and restrained boards on the Internet! Y'all have all been really nice to each other.

:teeth:

I don't have an informed opinion of the DDP yet, and whether it has changed the level of service at WDW restaurants. I'm looking forward to forming that opinion in September, thank heaven, because I *finally* have another trip planned. It has been way too long since I was able to dine there!

That said... I just found out today that because I got our room at a steep discount, my family doesn't qualify for the DDP at all. In order to add the DDP to our trip, I would have to forfeit our stunning discount on our BC room. I ran the numbers and double-checked my math (always an arduous task, becasue I just am not all that good at math), and it seems to me that you either pay through the nose for the room, or you pay through the nose for dining. You can't get a bargain on *both*.

Since it's six of one, half-dozen of the other, my husband and I chose to retain our discount on the room and forego the DDP. It honestly works out evenly in our case.

So all I can really add to this thread is that our Yachtsman Steakhouse reservations for our son's 14th birthday on Sept. 29th are still in place. We plan to order whatever we want, whatever the birthday boy wants, and we all plan to wear pretty darned casual "business casual" clothes. (I might rustle up a dress; DH and DS will probably find khaki shorts and button-down shirts. Lord only knows what my wild child DD will wear.) Regardless of our attire, I have every intention of getting steak and lobster and some kind of killer dessert. I might pay full price for it, but trust me, I will find a way to eat every single bite.

Why? Because we'll be on vacation. And on vacation, it's All About The Food.

;)

Yes, that's pretty much what I said earlier. My point was that we're a minority and our perspectives don't trump that of the rest of the guests, many of whom care most about things other than culinary artistry.

Bay-Exactly! What most people have found is that the DDP (you are talking about the "free" DDP, right?) really does not help you if you can get a deep discount on a deluxe. Most people going for the free plan in Sept are staying at a Value (POP or All Stars) to take advantage and make it come out to a gretat deal. I think you are making the right decision. Do you have APs? If so, you should look into the DDE card, saves you 20% at MOST restaurants and some counter service also. Including cocktails! :thumbsup2 Hope that made sense!

And also, you are right, this is a GREAT board and I gotta say, I think the mods do a fantastic job of keeping it on track. I frequent another board w/no mods and it gets downright MEAN.

Have a BLAST on your Sept trip...that is a great time to go! You will LOVE the BC!
