I am considering Jako, I want to be be comfortable. Please help with dress code.

Using the term Business Casual may cause confusion, since the defintion varies from employer to employer. On Disney's site they provide the dress code for signature restaurant as follows:

•Dress Code Guidelines:
Men: Khakis, slacks, jeans, dress shorts, collared shirts. Sport coats are optional.
Ladies: Capris, skirts, dresses, jeans, dress shorts.

Not permitted in dining room: Tank tops, swimwear, hats for gentleman, cut offs, or torn clothing. While T-shirts are now allowed, the policy remains that T-shirts with offensive language or graphics are not acceptable.

Just concentrate on the "not permitted". Virtually anything else is acceptable.

I would say that about 75% of the patrons dress somewhere within the suggested guidelines. But you'll see all sorts of shorts that certainly don't meet the definition of "dress shorts".

Some of DH's shorts push the definition of dress shorts. They're not cut-offs or gym shorts or anything, but sometimes he wears a pair of cargos with his collared shirt. He never stands out as under dressed and no one has ever said anything to him.

I'd say that there are about as many men in cargo shorts as there are in the "dress" shorts. Aside from the larger pockets, it's kind of hard to tell the difference.

Except of course as patrons leave - and those pockets are bulging with extra bread, chucks of Savanna Rolls and the like being squirreled back to the room!

Do they actually turn people away? We did pretty much all signatures when DH and I went in March. We always returned to the room before dinner and always got dressed up. Nothing too much sometimes a dress for me or khaki capris with a light sweater and nice sandals. And almost everytime I would look around and think why did we bother. At Yachtsman's there was a family that were wearing sweat shorts, socks with addidas slides, or bathing suits with a cover up dress. Another family looked like they left the pool and came in to eat. My park outfit was more appropriate then what they were wearing to dinner. I actually felt over dressed!

Convert: So THAT'S what those pockets are for. That's the cargo!!!

Vickis3js: Swimwear "coverups" really fit the definition of swimwear I think, and those folks should have been turned away. Have to say that while we've seen some pretty sloppy people over the years at WDW restaurants, never saw anyone admitted in swim wear or swim wear cover-ups.

Again, thanks to all for responding. I have always worried about foot wear, I would never wear flip-flops. I need to wear walking shoes ex. New Balance, I sometimes wonder if I should carry a pair a nice flats. As a rule I go to restaurants where I feel it is ok. This year I am trying some new restaurants as CG, AP, Jiko. One time I dressed up a little for Ohanas and felt like a jerk. Thanks again.

*bump*

i have a question...

would i stand out in a sundress at jiko? i dont have dress shorts or anything and im NOT wearing jeans in august. would a jean skirt be okay?

Vickis3js - Jiko is the one place that I saw a family turned away. I didn't hear the specific offense, but the entire family was very casual (looked like they'd been traveling?) and at least one was wearing a graphic tee.

dancer4life22 - You'd be fine in either a sundress or a jean skirt with a nice top.

Dancer: You won't stand out at all.
In fact, no one will even be looking at you.
