Dress Code change?

I was just perusing the 7/27/02 Eastern Navigators posted on the Platinum Castaway site, and noticed that it no longer says "jacket recommended" for Lumiere's on regular dining nights. I'm all for dressing up, and we will be dressed to the nines for formal, semi-formal, and Palo's, but I think this is good news! I was worried that my DH might need to take a jacket along with the tux. If this is a permanent change, he won't have to. Diana

Thanks I didnt notice this but you are absolutely right! Anyone know if they relaxed the dress requirements? any chance DH can get in there in shorts?

Please don't mistake me for the fashion police , but no jacket required is a long way from shorts.

Yes I know but maybe DS10.5 and I will go to Lumiere's ourselves.

DH is still insisting "it's my vacation and Im not wearing pants" Or DH & I will try for the spa that night. Hey if I cant get him dressed maybe I can get him undressed - lol

On 'ILuvDVC's' trip report she mentioned there were plenty of times to get dressed up, but felt bringing the formal clothes on their 7 day was a waste of time as people were wearing whatever they wanted.

Here we go again.

I received my cruise docs yesterday and they clearly state that jackets are recommended in Lumiere's and Palo.

was this info in a Navigator besides the first night one?

If you have LAPLAPL, then no, jackets are not required at Lumiere's that first night because DCL is sensitive to the fact that you may not get your luggage on time.

Regardless, I would pay attention to what's in the Navigator over waht in the cruise docs as the Navigators are updated daily whereas the cruise docs aren't.

I noticed this on the Navigators for Day 3 and 5, the "normal" days which are not Formal, Semi-formal, or Tropical. For Lumiere's it says, "Suggested Dress: Casual, no shorts or jeans please" just like the other two restaurants. Guess we need someone else that has been on the Eastern recently to chime in. In the past, DCL has been very clear on the Navigators of what they want the suggested dress code to be.

Regardless, I would pay attention to what's in the Navigator over waht in the cruise docs as the Navigators are updated daily whereas the cruise docs aren't.

This could present a problem whereas you receive your cruise documents well before your packing begins as to know how to pack. The navigators are found in your stateroom on a daily basis.

Here is DCL's verbiage provided in our cruise document package.

A jacket for men and a dress or pantsuit for women are suggested in the evening at Lumiere's and Palo only. All other dining rooms recommend resort casual wear; no shorts, jeans or tank tops, please.

Then it's no jacket required

Required no, suggested (as seen above) yes.

We had the (too) early seating dinner on the the 8/17 Magic. We started off in Animators. I was amazed at the number of people every night that wore shorts in the dining room. And the number of people who came to dinner late every night. Seems like people were less dressed up this year compared to last. I really don't think Disney would turn anybody away from the regular dining rooms but you never know.

The truth is, we were out of place dressed up in Lumiere's this past May. My DH seemed to be the ONLY man in a jacket.

He accused me of "too much research" and said that apparently no one else knew that Lumiere's was supposed to be more dressy than the other restaurants! It has gotten really casual. Not shorts, but khaki's and a polo and you'd fit right in in any of the rest excluding formal & semi-formal nights.

We too we on the 8/17, and although my husband took his jacket for Lumieres he never got a chance to wear it because we had the LAPLAPL rotation and Sat. and Tue. were both listed as casual, but not shorts or jeans, nights. I really felt cheated because we only got to really dress up the formal and semi-formal nights. This was our 3rd cruise in 3 years, and I really do see more and more casual dressing. And you know I really don't care if it is formal, semi formal, dressy or whatever. BUT I really would like to see everybody following somewhat the same dress pattern. If someone would have had a camera rolling when we went into formal night I'm sure they could have sent it to a funniest something show. It really looked funny seening tuxes, suits and ties, shirts with ties, jackets with no ties, shorts and yes sandals and a tank top. It looked like a fashion show from one end of dressing to the other. I know you go on a vacation to have fun, but you see the dress code before you go, there are other places to eat where you can leave your bathing suit on. I can't believe these people don't feel out of place. On semi-formal night we went back and changed out clothes to go to the movies and I went to the lobby in my capri pants through the 2nd seating diners and I felt out of place.

On our past cruises I have alway's packed Hubby a suit for Luminer's. There were very few men in suitson our last cruise (4 day). I am not even going to bother packing him a suit for our 3 day. I will pack him a nice shirt and nice pair of pants.

Ok, let's just keep this our little secret please. I can so seldom get DH & DS to dress up and from past experience they expect Lumiere's to be jacket and tie for DH, DS has worn dress shirt and pants in the past but since he is "older" now he was contemplating a tie!

We were on the 7/27 Magic Eastern. Yes it does state (Suggested Dress: casual, no shorts or jeans please). We saw everything, but most people were dressed up in the evenings. Most were dressed to the NINES on formal and semi formal night. Everyone was really having a great time. The family photo's are beautiful. ENJOY!

The only question I have about not bringing a jacket, is what does he wear to Palo's if he doesn't want to wear the tux? My husband likes to dress, and owns his own tux, so we will bring that. Do you think a casual suit would do for Palo's. He has one of those unstructured casual suits that you can wear either with a tie or a sweater. It is a jacket and pants, but not as dressy as a regular suit. Anita.
