DREAM Sail Date December 11th 2011

We got our cruise documents, too! Yippee!! I called DCL to see if I could get our room refund as an onboard credit and she said no, it's a refund to our credit card (that's how we paid for the cruise). She said it's already been credited as a refund but I haven't checked my account yet to see if it's there.

Trying to decide whether to upgrade to a verandah room in the stern of the ship on Deck 6 or 7. Has anybody had one of those rooms? Pros and cons? Are they noisy?

Just saw where they are offering Florida resident discounts on our cruise date. Category 5A $165 per person per night.

We booked while on our previous cruise and got a better discount, but for last-minute cruisers that might be a good deal.

We got our documents too:banana:
Silly question, what documents did you get?

I got a booklet a while back with tips and info about excursions etc. and other than that I didn't expect to get anything. Just print out and sign the online check in form and away I go! :)

The documents are the cruise booklet that confirms anything you have booked as well as your luggage tags. We are on the home streach!

Ahh.

Haven't seen that yet but then I am in the UK.

Not that it's an issue, apart from dining I've not booked any excursions and I'm travelling carry-on (My partner likes to travel light).

Yay! Not long now!

I didn't go back and read through the pages, but when are we going to get the FE info. How many cabins? How many kids? that kind of thing.... I bought a Mickey stocking today to use as our FE. :santa:

Wow, y'all still don't have that yet?? Makes me even more glad I'm not doing the FE....I would be stressing if I didn't have all the stuff bought and organized already! Lol!

Hi folks just found this thread and you can add 5 more to the party! We're a family of 5 from Pennsylvania heading down for our first Disney Cruise. We have 3 kids -- DS17, DD14, and DS12. My wife and I have been on a couple of cruises years ago (prior to having kids), and we're trying to prepare the kids for their first cruise. They're being real cool now, but we know once they get on the ship they will be really, really excited.!!!...I'm hopeful that there will be lots of kids closer to my two older one's ages..

Thanks everyone...I have a couple questions as it seems that I'm kinda lost when it comes to things going on during the cruise...1) I'd like to find out more about the FE? I did some reading, and it's does sound like fun. But, how much do you typically spend for each gift, and how many people usually participate as this can get REALLY expensive (# participants x 4 nights). 2) I see that folks are making reservations for the restaurants (Palos, Cabanas, etc)... I didn't even think about this, it it too late ??? and which restaurant is preferred as I don't want to have any regrets that we didn't make reservations when we're already on the ship. Any help on this and anything else that would make this cruise even more memorable would be appreciated for someone who is new to Disney Cruises...

kashkdz - Welcome to the group!

We went on our first cruise last year and participated in the FE. We were assigned only one day and had about 20 families on the list. Having only one day made things much easier!

I put together homemade and store bought items for the FE. There are some great ideas on the Disboards for the FE items. You decide how much to spend and what to give. We gave gifts individually to the kids and adults. We included candy, Disney items for the kids, and items from North Carolina for the adults.

The FE can be made (directions on the Disboards) or in my case, I bought ours. (I struggle sewing buttons!) We are using our same FE from last year.

I vote for having an assigned day. Otherwise, you spend a lot of time delivering FE gifts and not seeing the other parts of the ship. Just my two cents worth!:)

Just thought of an idea that we did last year that my kids loved. Since there seems to be a lot of first time cruisers, I thought I would share!

We had pillowcases and a photo mat signed by the characters. I ironed on their names from character fills onto the pillows. I had one of the DISigners make the character fill names for me. I added fabric markers in a ziploc bag with the pillowcases, and markers with the photo mat in another bag. I also added candy for a "thank you". I went to Guest Services the first day and asked for the characters to sign everything. The signed items came back to our room the night before we got back to the port!

It was a surprise for my kids and a huge hit!

Thanks NCHuskers I appreciate the tips.

I don't have experience with the FE - didn't do it last time and not doing it this time, either - so I can't help there. As far as the reservations for the restaurants - this is completely up to you and is totally a personal preference. The only two you would need reservations for are Palo and Remy, with Remy being the more upscale (expensive) of the two. There are many who cruise without eating at either of these restaurants. There are so many other free options on board (the main dining rooms, Cabanas, room service, quick service by the pool), and some folks don't want to have to be tied into a reservation time. There are others who say that both (or either) of these restaurants are "can't miss". Palo brunch on the sea day is also an option. It's very possibly that all on-line reservations are gone by this point, but you can always try to get a reservation once on board - my understanding is that they hold some back for booking at that point.

Have you made any reservations for excursions yet? That, too, is totally optional but didn't know if it was something you had considered since you hadn't thought about the restaurant reservations?

Feel free to ask as many questions as you need to!

I give my fe gifts 1 time during the cruise. Some may get it 1 day and others may get it another. That"s how most cruises I have been on do it.

NCHuskers - where in Raleigh do you live? My family lives in Cary.
