Dream: May 22, 2011

as for the scanners or pat downs? I dont think spokane has them yet......

This is a touchy subject for me right now! Every stinkin school in our COUNTY and the COUNTY SOUTH of us are closed. My kids school? OPEN! Blizzard warning. 5inches of snow overnight. Currently 7 degrees outside, with 30mph winds, gusts up to 60mph. ETO on all interstates, I-15 south of I90 is closed to ALL travel. Garbage trucks have been cancelled, city bus system has resorted to using their handicapped vans to run the routes, pending plows and sanders coming out. Plows have made attempts to clear the roads, but the gusts and reg wind are just blowing the light dry powder back into the roadway. Black ice on the road last night while coming home from DS parent teacher conference.. I am in pretty good shape, as I have a 4x4, and really don't HAVE to go anywhere today. Predicting friends calling while off in the ditch, so I might have to throw chains to go get them out.... but eh, at least im not running on a tow truck this year!

:worship: SORRRRRRRRY! The HUSURDADY was just think about the MTmomma , I was looking on the weather and saw your area was getting 'slammed" w/ bad weather. Explain; "at least im not running on a tow truck"???

Ummmm "at least im not running a tow truck" is exactly that. Tow truck companies go out no matter the weather. Winch outs, for people who have skidded off the road.... to that ******* that has high centered on a parking block while doing cookies in the local parking lot. Those hunters that are coming out of the woods? Yeah, they tend to skid off the logging roads..... Running a tow truck in the winter is long cold hours.... and dropping drive lines in the snow is not my idea of fun, BUT its good money.....
I have run them for years with my brother in law....... Up till two years ago when he got the heck outta montana! The only tow truck I have not run is a "heavy" wich requires a CDL, and hauls semi trucks that get into deep do do

OH! Very, very interesting. And now I know who to call when I need A tow. LOL LOL

:lmao: actually all of my friends call me, because even though I no longer run a tow truck, my pickup has done MANY cross town tows..... I usually carry more tools than most of my guy friends do, and have a lock out kit with me at all times..... I guess you could call me one of the most prepared people on the road!

WOW, Naomi, I saw where the weather out that way was pretty bad. You just be careful.

A former Tow Truck lady, huh....Very interesting. I'm sure you've come across some very stupid people. Always wondered what it was about snow and ice that brought out certain types just to see if they could get around. Oh well....

Luckily the bad weather hasn't moved east yet, but I'm sure it's coming. I don't mind snow too much, but I want nothing to do with the ice. Keep us updated.

Honestly, I think it boils down to people forgetting how to drive on the ice. They are used to being able to follow at short distances, and jump into a line of traffic at a moments notice. As for me, last night, I ran the truck home in 2WD just to "remember" my truck and its actions. A V-8 with only rear wheel drive power and light in the rear end can get kind of squirrely.... wich is why the first spot of ice there is, I practice my recovery skills..... I was doing 75 coming across I-90 eastbound.... just west of Bozeman MT two years ago, light almost misting rain..... got that OH NO feeling of something upcoming... took my foot off the gas.... and sure enough, that mist turned into the glitter of frost, and I got my truck lose on an icy bridge deck, with a semi coming up behind me.... managed to recover it, IN my own lane, and woke up my passengers.... Scared the heck out of me, but had I not known EXACTLY what and how my truck would react, I would have been rolled in the blink of an eye......
I have to laugh at the people who buy cars that have "all time 4 wheel drive" because ultimatly they are wasting gas, and are looking at a REALLY expensive tow bill when they put it in the ditch. Just because you have 4wd doesnt mean you have 4 wheel stop.

You are exactly right Naomi. I don't know how many times I've seen people with "4wd muscles" flying down the road in the new suv thinking it's going to stop quickly because of 4wd, then you pass them up ahead and they're off the road. I hope it snows here in January right after we leave for Disney! I would think people in Montana could handle it better.

Johnny, once we hit January, people have re-learned the art of driving on ice and snow, and the stupid fenderbenders have mostly all happened.... Ice driving is a STEEP learning curve..... This is only the first day that snow has actually STUCK on the ground in the lower elevations.

BTW - DON'T YOU PEOPLE WORK!!:surfweb: There seems to be alot of daytime posts on here. Wassup widat? Unless of course you're retired. Lucky you!

I work the really odd shifts.... usually M-W I am home in the mornings, and wind up closing the store at midnight. T-F I usually work a mid morning to mid evening shift S-S I open the store at 545am........ With the holidays rapidly approaching, I will have REALLY REALLY lousy hours as I work retail.....

Yessss, I work, but sometimes during the day I need to take a moment to get my brain re-adjusted. So I take a minute or two and hit the Dis so I can start "fresh". I do the bookkeeping, payroll, AP and Human resources and I occasionally need a bit of a break and a few minutes on the Disboards can do wonders for me.

What do you do for a living now may I ask?

Good Morning,
I've been a carpenter for 21 years, and for the last 8 I have run my own business.(took today off for our anniversary) Even my retail days were in the home supply industry.

How about you Dady? What kept you busy, and how do you like retirement?

Jim

Don, 43 years of marriage is fantastic. I give your wife all the credit. Women are truly amazing. I don't know what I'd do without Christine(DW). We have been together for almost 22 years, although only married for 4yrs today! We actually got married in 2006 at the Swan with alot of Disney events we enjoyed. Our kids are grown also DD28,DD26,DS21. Both girls stayed on the west coast after college, and our son is still home with us attending local college for engineering. We became Grandparents in Jan.2010 and love it.
I worked 12yrs in Phila. carpenters union before starting my own business which allows more time to enjoy life. Money comes and goes.....enjoying it while you can is what's important. In fact, I don't know the exact date, but it was right around my b-day(may22) in 2002 when I started my business. Christine is self-employed also as a CPA. We know we're going to love this cruise even though it's our first. We can't wait.

Happy Thanksgiving to all,
Jim
