Hi all
This is my first post here at this wonderful community. I am 25 years old and love the Magic of Disney. A lot of people make fun of me (25 year old guy who loves disney) but I dont care. That's the only place I can go to to get away from it all.

I have been to disney about 10 times in my life but never had the pleasure of staying on property.

Next march my girlfriend and I are going to stay at the Contemporary Resort (Tower Room) and I was looking into the Dream Maker packages.

I want to go with the Platinum package becasue it includes all meals and a lot of other stuff.

What are the pros and cons of the Packages and are they worth it?

Does anyone have any tips for staying on property. Can I call and request a room with a Magic Kingdom View?

Thanks so much for your help

First off... welcome to the DIS!! You're right when you say this is the place to get away from all the cynics! You'll definitely never get made fun of here for being a Disney fan. :D

Now, onto your questions....

I myself have never used the Platinum package before. You might be able to get better answers from someone if you use Platinum package in your title, or do a search for threads including the word platinum.

I have done the Silver Package though. Basically you just need to map out what you'll be using those extra benefits for, whether it be meals, shows, tours, etc and compare what the package is costing you to what the things would cost you if you purchased them separately. From what I've learned on these boards, the platinum package is only good if you're a big eater. And by that I mean three full meals (appetizer, entree, dessert and drink) a day. Since most don't eat that way, the platinum package doesn't work for a lot of people, but may be right for you. Like I said, I prefer the Silver package. With it you get 2 wishes per person per night. You can use those wishes anytime throughout your trip (you don't have to use two a night). Each wish costs about $34, so as long as you're using it for something that costs more than $34 you're getting your money's worth. Things like tours, dinner shows, Cirque tickets, and spa treatments are always a good way to use wishes. Things like meals depend wholly on the person though. So basically, do a little more planning and then do the math.

You can definitely call and make this request, as long as you understand that it doesn't guarantee you a MK view. Below is the link to the Contemporary resort thread. I'm sure they list the phone number to call in the thread. Just call about 4 or 5 days out, and make sure to have your ressie number handy.

rgf207,

I don't have any advice on the Silver or Platinum, but I wanted to say "Welcome to the DIS Boards!!!"

You will definitely get any question answered on these boards and get ALOT of helpful tips!!

We are all on big Disney family here!!

Have fun!!!

We have found it's cheaper to purchase everything separately. We don't ever eat 3 full meals a day while at Disney. Many people like the convenience of a package-- everything is paid for before you leave. I think you need to determine which group you fit in more closely. I'd definitely price everything separately to see which plan works out best.

My DH and I used the Platinum Package last year because it was our 30th wedding aniversary and really wanted to do it up big LOL! Anyhow, it was a once in a life time experience. I would never do it again for the price. We spent 11 nights and by the 3rd night we had eaten all we could possibly eat since they over feed you on the plan. You actually get something similar to the silver plan where they credit you for three meals a day as well as your snack. Well we ended up with so many points at the end of the time in just meals that AKL on check out tried to find some way for us to use them. Unfortunately there is no free gifts with the left over points for the meals so the answer was to stuff all the food into a bag we could before we left and take it with us. Since that was not an opition at all we lost a lot of money. I will say it was nice to eat where ever we wanted and to eat what ever we wanted. The fact that you could do any activity except for the carriage rides was nice as well. In the end we figured out that we had not gained anything at all with this plan. This time I am taking the usual Silver Plan that we have always taken, ordering off room service when I want and will pay out of pocket for anything that I want to do that I don't have wishes for and know I will still come out ahead.
At 25 you probably would make out better on the food than we did but still it is a hugh amount of food daily.
Good luck with you decision and if you have any other questions ask away.
