Dream Drydock 2024

We were on the Dream in May for the transatlantic and my teen said they are reconfiguring the current Vibe to also house Edge. I’m probably spreading rumors but it’s what he reported😂

A frequent complaint is that Edge and Vibe are too small to comfortably accommodate the number of kids they attract. So, consolidating one into the other doesn’t seem reasonable. And I can’t think of a single ship - on any cruise line - that allows 17yo in proximity of 11yo. Not a good idea from a liability perspective :).

I was actually worried about that... DCL has REALLY decided to go all in for kids 10 & Under and somehow ignore older kids (and even parents- Wish class ship adult pool is tiny). Guessing they want the Edge space for a tower suite... Ugh.

I don't understand what DCL is doing. Concierge rooms on deck 10 makes zero sense. Deck 10 is noisy. It is often assigned as VGT because no one wants them but they expect guests to pay concierge prices? There aren't enough benefits to concierge and the more ppl they add, the more watered down benefits get.

But the staterooms on Deck 10 currently aren’t premium, and younger Millennials/ Gen Z are all about premium, “Instagram-worthy”experiences these days. Just a few days ago I read an article from a blogger bragging about staying three nights in Pixar Place’s most expensive room… while also blogging about struggling to pay her student loans. Oh, priorities!

A few influencers types does not regular sailings fill. Most guests spending the type of money DCL concierge costs are not going to be happy with scrapping chairs overhead and the guests who have been loyal to DCL concierge might not stay loyal if DCL keeps making it harder to secure things like cabanas because they keep increasing the concierge guest count.

That is kind of my guess… I think they will want most of the focus to be on the new ships… They have 3 coming out in the next year and a half after all.

The ship was in great shape on our April sailing… I do think some concepts could be reimagined and come across as dated (i.e. the entire adult district - especially Skyline Lounge, some of the decor in the restaurant on level 2 and the odd inclusion of buffet stations that aren’t used, some of the furniture in AP which is a bit worn), but overall it is a magnificent ship, and I hope they don’t touch it too much…

While some may lament the loss of the District on the Wish ships, one of the nice things was because of the clubs being spread out, people ironically seem to gather in them more, and wander from venue to venue when strolling around the ship… On our April Dream sailing, there were multiple nights that you would stroll through the District and see nobody in Skyline, very few people in Pink, or the bar at the front. The sports bar was a little more popular… People seemed to be more out and about on the Wish…

However, I don’t think the Drydock coming up will be able to adjust any of these issues… At most they may decide to upgrade/retheme Skyline or recarpet Pink… It’s funny, the rest of the ship has such a “classic” look, and the Adult District on the Dream is definitely themed in 2010s aesthetic… It has not aged as well as the rest of the ship.

I think it’s reasonable to expect that Enchanted Garden will be re-themed. (Insiders all but confirmed it for the cancelled 2020 dry dock). It’s also reasonable to think that some of the lounges in the District will be re-themed (as we saw with the Magic last year). But suggestions that the District is going to be replaced with a tower suite and the Dream will become more Wish-like is just foolhardy.

The District offers a reprieve for adults who want more mature entertainment… and a few adult beverages while they’re enjoying it. The cost to convert the space into a tower suite and then build our replacement lounges throughout the ship would be prohibitive. The suggestion is just ridiculous to be honest.

@Cfabar1 - the buffet trays are used late in the evening, like after 10PM (somebody else knows the times better than I do, not something we’ve taken advantage of in awhile). The nightly spread they had on our EBTA was pretty much the same as the spread they had when the ship first entered service.

Re: buffet stations. Are you talking about the same thing?

Is the buffet set-up still in Enchanted Garden (that’s what I took @Cfabar1 to be referring)?

And @LAS2AMS - are you talking about the late night snack tables found in the District?

I guess I’m misreading the post. I don’t recall buffet stations at Enchanted Garden (doesn’t mean they aren’t there, I’m just not that observant) I assumed the OP was referring to the ones in the district (as they’re there all day but used for an hour or so).

Even though it is only a rumor, I now cannot stop thinking about what character the dinner show would be based on... Moana would be really fun.

cancelled 2020 dry dock was rumored to be Enchanto. I’ll stick with that since everything is prefabricated and it’s unlikely Disney would’ve destroyed the material.

There are buffet stations in the back of enchanted garden... Not sure if they are ever used, but they were not on our dream sailing....

This post has a picture of them - I'm not sure if I can find something better to display them... they are in the back of the restaurant, beyond the fountains:

And is this the buffet you referred to previously?

(This is really a side conversation for my curiosity of language and communication).

I remember the buffet in old Parrot Cay on Magic & Wonder that were used on Boarding Day as an alternative to Beach Blanket (Cabanas now). Maybe also for breakfast.

Photos of the Enchanted Garden with milk, yogurt, muffins… makes me think I might have gone there at breakfast. So many years ago.

I recall getting a buffet breakfast in Enchanted Garden on my first Dream sailing, in 2012. I can’t remember if the buffet was still in use on my next Dream sailing in 2017. It was not in use on my sailing in 2023.

I also remember getting embarkation day lunch in Parrot Cay on the Magic and Wonder — I far preferred that to the set menus they have now on embarkation day. I am not sure whether they had buffet breakfasts.

Weird since Encanto didn't come out until 2021. I don't see them having planned a whole re-do of a dining room to a movie that hadn't yet come out and therefore they had no idea how it would do at the box office.

Were you possibly thinking Coco? If so, that's going on the Treasure, and they have yet to have the same IP for dinner shows, so that's a nope.

Disney has always promoted its films via its theme parks, etc. Classic example is Disneyland’s castle was intentionally named after Sleeping Beauty to promote the film, which came out several years later.

Dream’s dry dock was scheduled for late 2020. Encanto would’ve been released not much later if not for COVID. I’m sure Disney knew the film would be a big hit in the Latino community.

A while ago someone had posted about a post cruise survey they received asking them to rank several themes. I do not recall all of them but I know Winnie the Pooh (Hundred Acre Woods) and Mary Poppins were on the list, two IP that would seem to fit seamlessly into the existing design. The speculation on these boards was that Disney was trying to gauge interest on ideas for the retheme. Someone with a better memory or research skills than me may be able to share the entire list.

I do think Encanto makes sense, but honestly I hope it's not Encanto. I'm personally Encanto'ed out LOL. With Moana 2 coming it could be nice timing for Moana.

Here’s one thread:
https://www.disboards.com/threads/dcl-survey-about-new-restaurants.3919987/

But I wouldn’t read too much into it. As noted in the thread, half the themes already existed. And people have speculated about a Mary Poppjns overly for Enchanted Garden ever since the ship came into existence.

I’ll bet that whatever was planned for the Dream, was done so prior to COVID and there will be minimum modifications to those plans. Most everything physical was likely completely and has been sitting in storage. RCL, for example, cancelled extensive refurbs for several of its ships… but waterslides, furniture and fixtures, etc. were added to those ships after sitting in storage for 2-3 years (due to storage costs and the fact that they were built) with little else done.

OMG! Alice in Wonderland would be soooooooooo fun!!!!!

I have a question about the possibilities of adding more concierge rooms. They show guarantee cabins for some after drydock but I don't see any deck 10 for the new sailings that just got released

Honestly this really was annoying the one time we sailed concierge on the Wonder. I'm not fussy (yes I know that's what a fussy person would say) but it was REALLY grating hearing all the scraping above us. It probably didn't help that my husband started feeling sick the day before we boarded and I spent the week terribly ill myself after catching it, but there was a lot of noise during the day. We can't afford it now anyway with price increases without sacrificing too much in other places, but even when we could it was part of why we didn't go back for seconds.
