Anyone have comments and/or recommendations on the Dream cabins in category 4E. Interested in hearing about noise, views, etc. Just two adults in the cabin. Thinking we might like the extra verandah space, especially the one with the curved rail.

Have read room reviews and the opinions seem to vary. Any suggestions?

Room 5650 is awesome if you can get it. It's extra wide and extra deep (most of the 4Es are just extra deep). We've stayed in a 4E and we really enjoyed the extended verandah. I'd recommend starboard side as it will generally be quieter. There is not a hall that goes all the way forward from there, and it is not over the bars/lounges on deck 4. That said, we were on the port side and didn't have any noise issues to speak of!

AFAIK, 4E cat are nothing special. I think you are talking about 5E. Those are the big ones - 7190, 7688, 8184, 8682, 9170, 9670.

These are at the back of the ship. Problems are rumbling when the ship goes in reverse (usually docking into port or CC) as the reverse thrusters kick water back to the hull. But it is a nice wake up call. You then open up the window and WOW - what a view...

On the DCL website for the Dream, it shows them as having oversized verandahs, that sounds special to me.

The 4Es on the Dream and Fantasy are the rooms on deck 5 with extended verandahs. They are all about twice the depth of a standard verandah, and several are also about twice as wide. One thing to note about these rooms is that they do NOT have the same interior square footage as categories 4A-D. They have the same amount of inside space as a category 5.

Here is a photo of our 4E verandah. We had two chairs, two loungers, and a table.

I see..

OP mentioned curved verandah - that would imply Cat 5E at the back of the ship with the cabins I mentioned.

Here's a picture of the verandah in 8682:

Sorry, I didn't mean to mislead. I have seen pics of 4Es that had verandahs with a curved railing, much smaller than what you are showing in your pictures, but still quite a bit bigger than regular verandahs. :)

You were not misleading! The cat 4E rooms are always causing confusion. I could be wrong, but I think that rooms 5650, 5150, 5552, and 5052 (which are the 4Es with double-width verandahs) have curved railings. They aren't curved verandahs, but they are rounded off on one end. Note that room 5552 is HA.

We were in 5542 and 5544 on the Dream, 4E. 5544 had a curved railing so we had a clear view to the back. Would book again - the extended verandahs were great and curved rail nice.

I can get the link to work, but no pictures come up for me. :confused3 I have tried a couple of times. Will try again later.

Nope, pictures still not coming up, even if I go directly to the thread without using the link. Oh well. I think we have decided on the 4E anyway. We are currently 8A guarantee, and got just the cabin I wanted, with the divider wall, but DH says he really doesn't want to sail without having a verandah. I thought a 3-night cruise would be the perfect time to trying a cabin other than what we normally book.

Done 4Es twice. To us, they are the best and very special. Those 5Es aren't bad but you may have to deal with soot each morning. The 4Es, you still get the big Verhandah but no issues with soot or NOISE when arriving at port when they engage the reverse thrusters.

Finally got the pictures to work, and we will have a curved railing, so better views. I think we will really like this cabin,

Room 5544, did you feel a lot of motion? Noise from the theater or adjoining room? We're the life boats obstructing your view?

We did not have any motion beyond usual ship motion. Theater noise, no. The life boats were one deck down so there was not obstructed view. We have now sailed these cabins on both the Dream and Fantasy, and they remain our favorites. The room space is less than other 4's, but we practically lived on the verandas so it did not matter.

Thank you!! I have one last question... what did you do for drinks (soda and water)? Was it far to get to a refill station? Any tips? Thanks again and have a great day!!

We would send one person up to the drink station to bring back coffee in morning, and during day would stop by to get ice water and other drinks to bring back when we were out and about. Also, room steward would leave ice so it was never an issue. One thing we found - being near the forward elevator, it was easy to get on and off because it is less crowded than the others. So going to an upper deck to get drinks was a fun excursion, not a problem.
