Dream a Little Dream: May 8-12, 2011

Hello my Dream peeps! For those of you with countdown tickers, did you notice our little sliding thing is no longer parked firmly at the very beginning? There's hope after all that we'll get there eventually :thumbsup2

Then again, I know on May 12, 2011 I'll be sitting on the plane home, shaking my head sadly, saying, "Seems like just yesterday we booked the trip..." :rolleyes1

Hi there, fellow cruisers,

(Sorry in advance, but English is my second language.....)

I booked our very first cruise in our very first trip to our very first time at WDW. :cool1:

On the first booking day of November 2009, I booked for May 1st, 2011 and joinned the May First Thread. But to my immense horror, :scared1: I realized a month ago, that the week-end before the cruise was Easter! Since we HAVE to be on the monorail for my daughter and we also HAVE, to be in WDW the week before the cruise, Easter week-end would have sent my budget over board :sad2: and my daughter into a major melt down :furious:! So I finally got in touch with our TA who changed our reservation to May 8. :worship:

It's my, DREAM. I made a promise to myself 40 years ago, that I was some day, going to visit Disney (DL at the time). So I decided 4 years ago to put $200/month for 5 years to go to WDW. (Only one year to go! :yay:) Back in 2005, I vaguely heard about Disney Cruises, but I never, ever imagined what I was about to discover. :cheer2:

Since my DH doesn't understand my DREAM at all, I am "dragging" my DD11 (at time of sail) to not go alone.... Now, since she lives with numerous special needs (mobile, communicative and lovely but not autonomous), I also "drag" my very best friend for help. To make sure that I would provide the best trip for DD, I started reading on the net, everything Disney and special needs I could find. I first found "Mom's Panel", many more mouse boards, and then the DISBoard.

On DIS, I found wonderful threads like the DCL picture of the day and the one sharing door magnets. These guys rock! Hope to have something for our door too. I also saw very nice FEs but since we travel by plane from Northern Ontario, Canada, I'm a bit cautious about suggesting FE... We probably could'nt exchange with too many rooms!

So for me, even though I read a lot - DIS is so huge - everything is still very new. I think that this is my post #8 or so.
Reading your thread, you look like a bunch of happy people ready to cruise... :dance3: in 1y, 1m, 1w, and a bit more than 1d! We are happy to join.

I'm very cautious about details because of DD's vulnerability. Someone talked about a list of names earlier in the thread. How "confidential" and safe is this?

Hi all. I was booked originally for a March cruise but had to push it back to May. Look forward to sailing the Dream and meeting everyone. Traveling solo this trip just to decompress a bit and get a peek at the Dream.

Hello cruisers! I see we haven't picked up much momentum yet :rotfl: But I suspect things will take off like a rocket once we get within the, oh I dunno, 1 year mark? ;)

However, I will likely be leaving you. DH went back to school using a university with a special degree plan and classes for working professionals. But now that he's hitting his last 30 hours he has to start taking some courses that are only available during regular hours. What this means to us is that he's on regular calendar time for 2011, and Easter being so late has pushed the end of the school year out a week from what it's been in previous years.

OYYY!!! :headache:

Long story short, unless his professors do early finals, we have to push our cruise to the following week (and wouldn't you know it, we found out about a week after the rates went way up! Now if that doesn't just chafe my hide....).

Now the best part of this is that we still get to cruise. Yay! The worst part is that we don't know anything for complete certain until October, and not for complete, complete certain until January when syllabus are given out. Can you imagine what that does to one of us fanatic Displanners? ;) So yes, I'm essentially planning 2 trips at this point with only the end results of one. I've got deposits flying everywhere!

It also means that even though I'm the originator of this thread, I cannot be the one to coordinate any meets or FE's people want to do. Which makes it complicated for you organizers since I'm the first poster where the links to these things typically fall. If none of the other first page posters are willing to use their first posts to hold info, I will be happy to continue to update my first post if needed even if we don't sail with the 5/8 peeps. I do have my PM's turned off, but I'll keep checking this thread (I can turn the PM's on for individuals as needed). Hopefully there will be a coordinator by the fall who'll let me know if it's necessary.

Wow that was a long post! :rotfl: If you're still with me, hope your spring is going well, and you're keeping the cruising faith. It will be here before you know it!

Jumping on Board.
So we have been deciding what to plan for next year, WDW or Cruise. I would love both but they may not happen. So everyone was given the choice a week at WDW or 4 day Cruise on the Dream. It was the Dream all the way. So we are hoping to book by the end of May. Need to finalize the dates with employers and my oldest is in College.

So who's going.
Me Michele-41 (at time of cruise) Wife 21 years, mom to two DD's 20 and 18. Nana to one DGS 18m.
DD Brittany20 (will be 21 on the cruise) mom, student and full time student. Her plate is very full as you can see.
DGS Tristen18m (2.8 years at time of cruise) full of life and loves Disney
DD Katy18 (19 on the cruise) um well she is just finding her way and not sure what she is going to be when she grows up.:rolleyes1
now both will have their long term BF's with them
Nate-26-Dad of two and mechanic
Chason-22-Tile and Marble guy
Notice my DH isn't listed. As of now he has chosen to to do anything Disney so he is opting out. His loss

This will be mine and Katy's third Disney Cruise and Brittany's 2nd. All the guys will be doing their very first cruise ever. Boy are they in luck to be joingin my family.:rotfl2:

So as I just decided which date to go I had no idea it was Mother's Day that day. Wow, now I'm really excited. :cool1:
We hope that this great plan pans out and we are more official soon:thumbsup2

Just over 1 year until we set sail. Where is everyone? I know I am getting excited the closer we get to the one year mark. Come out and show your excitement with me:dance3:

I'm definitely excited! I applied for my passport last week.

:jumping1:

I just requested a quote for this cruise and I am seriously considering booking.
My husband and I have gone on several cruises on the Celebrity Cruise Line but want to take our grand-daughter on a Disney Cruise.
Of course her parents are allowed to tag along too.
She will be 3 years old next year, I hope that is not too young to enjoy the cruise.

Welcome and I hope you can make it. I think there is never too young of an age to enjoy it. Just in different ways. As I also think we are never too old to enjoy it.:rotfl2:
My grandson will be 2 1/2 when we go. I wanted to wait closer to three as we will have a better shot at making sure he is potty trained to go to the club but we have no patience.:rolleyes1 So we shall hope he gets there early.:thumbsup2

Welcome aboard Helenk - as you see, I'm a bit of a positive thinker - we'll be pleased to send pixie dust your way!

I know what you mean about being potty trained so that they can go to the kids club. I said the same thing to my son yesterday when I told him I was considering booking, My grand-daughter just turned 2 has just started the potty training and is doing pretty well with it. I'm sure by next May she'll be fine.
Here is hoping that your grandson will be potty trained by then as well.

Thank you, I am 99.9% sure I am going to book. I need the correct names of everyone in the party and I think my daughter in-law's ID is still in her maiden name. So once I talk to my son this afternoon and get that info, I will have credit card in hand and book the trip.
I know it's more than a year away, but I am really excited about doing this. A brand new Ship and our first Disney Cruise it just can't get any better. I've even started thinking about booking a few days in Disney either pre or post cruise.

We'll be at the Poly for 8 days pre cruise. I prefer WDW first, so we can "rest" (is it whishfull thinking? :wizard: ) on the boat...

I'm booking this cruise in the next few days, as soon as my TA gets back with me. It will be part of our honeymoon trip for my fiance and I. We're getting married on May 7 and then driving down for the cruise on May 8. We're both really excited to begin our lives together!

With that said, I was wondering if anybody had experience with booking the Comfort Suites for the Aquaventure tickets "discount". Me (24) and my fiance (26) were looking into this as an option to cut our costs down.

I thought perhaps it might be a good idea to meet two others in this thread that would possibly consider "booking the room" together to get us all a significant discount verses Disney's $160 per person excursion.

Regardless, we can't wait (It's a year from today!!!!)!

I finally went ahead and paid the deposit today :woohoo: My daughter graduated from college on Saturday and with all that going on it took until today to get my daughter in law's info on her passport.
But we are booked, now to decide whether to stay at WDW before or after the cruise. I would prefer to go before hand but I am sure that my daughter in law would like to have a Mother's Day dinner with her mother on the Saturday before Mother's Day.

I missed to post the one year by one day..... :scared1:

Welcome to helenk and Rivewin.

Sorry Rivewin, I don't have a clue what you're talking about :confused3 so cannot help.
