Inspired by Souther4sure's dining-room table full of Hostess products, I was thinking about my favorite snack cakes from my childhood. A friend posed the following question: If you had to choose between Drakes products or Hostess products, which would you choose :confused3

Drakes makes my all-time favorite - Yodels :goodvibes They also make Devil Dogs, Ring Dings, Yankee Doodles, Coffee Cakes and Funny Bones.

Hostess makes Twinkies, CupCakes, HoHo's, Suzy Q's, DingDongs and Sno-Balls.

Which would you choose?

Also, are Drakes regional? I know they started out in the NorthEast, but I didn't think they were still a regional product.

Sorry I didn't include any Little Debbie products - I just can't stomach those!!

Drakes! :thumbsup2

Love me some Yodels  and the cupcakes just taste better than the Hostess ones.

They have to be regional. I have never had them. I have lived in Missouri and Texas now and no Drakes, Yodels, etc...:confused3

You don't know what you are missing - Yodels are the best thing on Earth :)

In the early 90's, Hostess and Drake merged. I just assumed that Drakes branched out nationally at that point.

I should run for office - my "platform" could be: "A Yodel for every man, woman and child". (I bet I'd get a few votes from some rabid Yodel fans out there:goodvibes )

Well since I have these staring at me now going on 3 days and with 4 more days to go I better say Hostess. But then again I never heard of Drakes.

No contest- drakes all the way!
Mmmm a funny bone and a big glass of coffee milk! :thumbsup2

TwinkieMama....where are you? I need the support..........:lmao:

I have never had Drakes, but I love me some Hostess.

Drakes!

I even remember when Devil Dogs were really big and only cost a nickel.

Funny Bones, Creme Cups, Ring Dings, Yodels, Fruit Pies, Swiss Rolls...yum. And what could be better than the Coffee Cake Jr., lovingly paid tribute to on Seinfeld?

We always thought the Hostess cream filling was gritty.

However, my DB did enjoy the occasional Chocodile (A chocolate covered Twinkie).

For those of you not familiar with Drakes' products, here's a little guide I found:

Devil Dogs - a devil's food creme sandwich whose wafers have rounded edges making the cake somewhat resemble a hot dog.

Yankee Doodles - chocolate cupcakes baked and sold in paper baking cups. Unlike most other snack cupcakes on the market, there is no icing, and the hole through which the creme filling was inserted is clearly visible in the risen center.

Sunny Doodles - yellow cake version of the Yankee Doodles

Ring Dings - Chocolate frosted hockey puck shaped chocolate cake with creme filling.

Yodels - Chocolate frosted creme filled Swiss roll. Drake's also from time to time offers a non-frosted version, simply called "Swiss Roll". These are usually larger and sold as one in a single wrapping or four in a family pack, but for a while in the past, they too were sold as two smaller cakes in a single wrapping. Hostess has similar products known as HoHos.

Funny Bones - Similar to the Yodels, but with squared off edges and corners rather than being a cylindrical roll, and filled with peanut butter flavored creme.

Fruit Pies - These are unique among snack pies, in not containing lard (which is often used to make the crust more flaky), and in having two (half-sized) square shaped pies in a pack, instead of a single rectangular pie, as most other brands do. Fruit pies come in apple and cherry flavors.

Coffee Cake Junior - A large single round crumb cake. Family packs contain smaller ones.

I'm salivating now - I think I might have to stop at 7-11 on my way home tonight and grab a Yodel. :)

I know for sure Drakes are regional to the NE part of the USA. We don't have them here. Same parent company though I believe along with Dolly Madison. That said since I only have hostess, that is what I choose :teeth:

I don't know what Drake's are, so I would have to pick Hostess. However, I would pick Tastycake over Hostess. Yum! I may have to go to the store now....

Drakes!

However, my DB did enjoy the occasional Chocodile (A chocolate covered Twinkie).

Although I am clearly on the Drakes bandwagon - I always loved Chocodiles. I think they stopped selling them on the East Coast a long time ago. Whenever I am visiting the West Coast, I always bring home a bunch of Chocodiles :)

-- Laura (who has probably gained a few pounds just thinking about all these snack cakes)

Little Debbies or Tastycakes please.. I could use a cupcake now

We don't have Drakes where I'm from. I'm not that big on Hostess but I loves me some Little Debbies!:rolleyes1

I can't choose. Drakes has Devil Dogs and Yankee Doodles. Hostess has Sno-Balls and DingDongs!
