DR Visa -- I swear this seems like the dumbest thing

So I had applied for and received a DRVC (no fee) just a little bit ago (less than a month). I got a $50 DGC as a perk for joining. Then lo and behold, we get in a mail an offer for the EXACT.SAME.CARD (no fee) with a $200 GC. So I called to see if I couldn't get credit for at least the $150 delta. I was thinking worst case they say no, I sigh and go about my way.

Instead they said no but said I could apply to get another one. Excuse me? I already have one. Yes, I can get 2. That makes no sense, you would be paying me now $250 instead of a flat $200. I asked about collapsing them and no I can't but could cancel one. Seriously? This makes absolutely NO sense but that is the Chase DVRC logic.

The same exact thing happened to me!!! I didn't call though. If it didn't hurt your credit rating to open and close an account after a short period of time, I would just have DH open the 2nd one in his name.

Actually that is a myth! It can be true if it is an old account (i.e. a long history of payments there) but for a newer one with zero balance, no biggie. What hurts is really the multiple credit checks within a certain time period but if you aren't planning on doing more credit checks in the future like refi-ing or getting other financing, likely not going to cause a big change to your score.

So if we are planning on refinancing, we should open it after doing so, correct?

The same thing happened to me about a year ago. I opened up a regular Disney card (the one without a fee) and then a few weeks later, we got the $200 card offer in the mail. I had my husband open up a card in his name. The cards are not really good for anything IMO since we get better rewards on our other credit card, so we just keep them around so we can get 2 photos at Epcot :)

This will be our only trip to Disney (yes I know everyone says that but this is it for us) so I won't use it once we are done with the trip.
