Just got off the phone with my Guide that i've been working with to buy as a new member.

He just told me that the DP incentive for purchasing is expiring on March 28th. Just an FYI.

Maybe they'll be coming out with something better for those who decided to wait. I'm not sure the cruise incentive is going over that well since there seems to be quite a few restrictions. The biggest one I think is automatic late dining. If you're buying BLT you might very well have small kids. I can't imagine my three-year old and five-year old grand-nieces just starting to eat dinner at 8:15. We're not bringing kids on the cruise, so I guess we'll just stick with 8:15 rather than try and move it.

I won't be telling DH if the next incentive is better, because he really didn't want to buy BLT in the first place, but with a little arm-twisting I was able to convince him that it would be a great addition to our BWV points. I am thrilled with our purchase and can't wait to stay there. I also think the 1BR's are a great use of space. They certainly appear to be larger than some of the others, with the exception of OKW of course.

Good luck to those of you who are waiting. Does anyone know if sales are going better or are they going worse than expected?

I have also heard another upcoming change is they will not take a CC for the deposit...:scared1: The good 'ole CC deposit made things soooo easy to get the process started. :rolleyes1

This will be interesting considering their partnership with Chase for Disney Visa. I wonder if they will continue the option only for Disney Visa cardholders....

I wondered about that, too, because there is that 10% of your purchase (up to 2,500) interest free for 6 billing cycles thing with the Disney Visa. :confused3

Typically....When one set of incentives ends, do they offer new ones? We got an email from our guide today telling us the same thing. I wonder what may be offered next. Any guesses????

If they proceed with this, they also will need to consider eliminating credit card payments, because in essense, what would be the difference?

What is the DP incentive? And what are all the incentives being offered right now, if anyone knows?
Thanks,
Ingrid

Right now, with a member referral, you can get matching developer points (ie: you buy 160 points at BLT, they give you 160 points to use this year at SSR) or a cruise on Disney Cruise line (depending on the number of points, depends on the length of the cruise).

The website, dvcnews.com, is usually pretty up to date with current incentives.

Did I miss a sarcasm smiley in there somewhere? Where'd you hear that one?

I can't see DVC wanting to make the purchase process even MORE difficult. What would be the motivation for that? You can buy a $1 cup of coffee at McDonald's on a credit card these days. :confused3

Thank you so much for such a quick response!:goodvibes

Well, this would pretty much suck for those of us who have been waiting to buy at VGC after the founders period..which allows us to buy on March 26..so if our guides aren't quick we lose on DP? Also, I already gave my guide my CC info for my down..when is this supposed to change?

Me either. Who brings a checkbook on vacation? Unless they are getting chargebacks (and I can't imagine they are in any significant numbers) I just can't see them not taking credit card payments for the deposit.

I also don't think they'll start the paperwork without the deposit---getting the deposit is an important part of the sales process, because it ensures that the buyer is emotionally invested in going through with the sale when they get home and think it over. Signing people up without getting the deposit is going to generate a lot more rescind notices.

Yes, you're right. That would be as silly as announcing a 100point minimum for add ons for BLT and VGC in the middle of a recession....

:rotfl: Yeah, it appears Disney saw the light on that one. Although I do think there was some wisdom in that move--albeit misplaced. My sense is that Disney was trying to do something about small contracts hitting the resale market and undercutting their sales efforts. So the solution was to simply remove people's ability to buy small add-ons.

Those small add-ons also aren't nearly as profitable as larger ones. So even with lower sales the profits could have been equal or greater.

In the end I think it was member feedback that torpedoed the 100+ policy more than anything else. The timing of the reallocation helped in that it left some people lacking a small number of points. IMO the reversal was probably too quick to even tell how the new policy was impacting profitability.

But I can't think of a single valid reason for eliminating credit card deposits. What would be the rationale for making such a move? :confused3

I can't see much of a reason unless the bank fees to process the transaction (2-3%? But Disney probably has negotiated a better rate somehow) are being targeted as a cost cutting measure. At a minimum I think DVC should still allow credit cards for the 10% deposit, and HOPEFULLY continue them for all the payments online (additional loan principal, for example) and for the other purchases that they currently do!!!

Time will tell...
