I have never been to DTD so I was wondering....if we arrive late Saturday afternoon & decide to do DTD is that just an area we can visit without paying/using a hopper pass or do we have to use a hopper pass/pay?:Pinkbounc

DTD is free. They have places to shop and eat. It is a great place to start a trip.

We can not visit WDW without a trip to DTD, more particularly Ghiradellis Fountain Shop. Chances are that if you have the Hopper pass, one of your options will be admission to Pleasure Island. You can easily spend an entire evening at DTD. We also love the new toy store, "Once Upon A Toy" where we just picked up our Potato Head Kit (All the pieces you can fit into a box for $17). Ask a cast member with help stuffing your pieces into the box. You will end up with twice as many pieces than if you do it yourself.

Enjoy your trip

FYI

If you go into Pleasure island before 7pm you do not have to pay! Once the turnstyles go across the entrances then you have to pay!

you can walk through during the day as the stores are open! I have been in Pleasure Island before the gates went across and noone bothered me!!!

DTD is a great place to visit your first day. If you enjoy boating, you can rent one for a decent price. The Boardwalk is another option ( no charge ), at night the place comes to life.

DTD is a lot of fun for an alternative to the parks. That would be a great activity for your first night down there. If you have young children, they will love the giant Lego sculptures. As someone else mentioned, you must go to Ghirardelli's for ice cream. My mouth is watering just thinking about their sundaes. :p

DTD is fun for the water attractions too.

if you have small kids, don't expect them to come away dry if the water shooters are switched on. (LOL)

We love DTD and usually start our first evening here by having dinner at the RFC, and doing some shopping.

If you are a DC member, you can get 10% off of your purchases at the World of Disney Store, and the Christmas store too! There are alot of different stores to visit, and many places to grab a bite to eat, or some delicious ice cream at Ghiradelli's.

Our first day at Disney we don't go into any of the parks, since the traveling day usually makes us tired. We hang out by the pool, have a nice relaxing dinner, shop DTD and take it easy so we can get an early start the next day. :):):)

Pleasure Island is Disney's Night Club area. You pay one price, and have access to all the clubs with no cover charge. Admission doesn't cover drinks, however. There are also some shops within, but I usually don't go to Pleasure Island, so I'm not sure what type of merchandise they sell.

Also, if you are on Pleasure Island before 7, you can stay for free, but I don't think you can have access to the clubs. I think there's some sort of wristband or handstamp system? Correct me if I'm wrong?

Yes, PI does a wristband and handstamp system after it officially opens. The ticket offices are open early.

If you've never been to PI, it is great fun -- they celebrate NYE every night! The clubs offer something for everyone. My favorites are the Comedy Warehouse and the Adventurer's Club. Some evenings the AC is closed for private parties.

PI after dark is geared toward adults, although I have seen kids in the clubs. Of course, the kids aren't allowed to drink anything harder than Coke or juice, but it can crimp the "style" of some of the shows. (The rating would drop to PG from a PG-13 or even R.)

I highly recommend an adults-only-night-out at least once at PI. It's open until 2 AM.

While there is no admission charge for DTD, you WILL spend money. Unless, of course, you don't like items with Disney characters;)
