(This post contains information up to and including episode 5,3 - currently the last aired on the American PBS schedule.)
YES!!!!
Loved last night's episode - "Away with your impertinent conclusions!" is my new favorite Dowager Countess quote.
I do think Mary belongs with Charles over Tony, but will she admit it now that things are serious? (I know deciding was kind of the idea, but I think she really expected the trip to confirm her choice, not throw it into question.) And I'm really afraid Anna's help with "things" is going to cause some sort of problem for her.
I feel awful for Edith, but what could the farmer's wife really be expected to think without knowing the truth? And somehow I keep worrying about their other kids, and how they must feel about the whole thing.
And though I love what Miss Bunting is doing for Daisy, how on Earth did she think it was appropriate to talk about the revolution with the refugees? I'm sadly leaning more toward Lord Grantham's opinion of her than I thought I would.
I agree - and poor Tom - he's always apologizing for her behavior.
Anyone think violet will see her Russian admirer again?
I agree about Edith and the other children. Since the first scene in their kitchen I thought it would make more sense if she at least TRIED to fawn over the other children a bit and not just Marigold.
Yes, I agree - she does kind of just ignore the other children. But what did you all think of Mrs. Drewe's reaction when she came back from the dentist with her son? What, she thinks Marigold was STOLEN by Edith? I thought that was odd and a bit irrational. If someone that was watching my daughter wasn't there, I might assume they took her back to the big house to play or something before I assumed she kidnapped her. Also, I might have looked around for a note?
It may sound kind of icky, but am I the only one who ever sees the interactions between Mary and Tom and wonders what if? They have so much in common with trying to keep the estate, deceased loves of their lives. I suppose they really are more like brother and sister tho.
I also think Miss BUnting is starting to become too abrasive.
Agreed - Mary and Tom might be a nice match now, although I think they do love each other on a non-romantic level at this point... remember, it's been years that they've been working together now. Tom was always concerned for Mary - he was the first to want to challenge her to "get her out of the fog" when she was in such deep mourning for Matthew. Their little exchange by the fire was very touching, and kind of did make me wonder... Hmmm?
But aside from that little exchange, I think their relationship is platonic. I don't think if they were together that Tom would challenge her enough, you know? I LOVE coming to this thread on Mondays... I also can't wait to re-watch last night's episode - I kept flipping back and forth to the game (Colts - I am not a fan, but I work in construction and knew my crews would be talking about it today, so I wanted to have SOME kind of insight!) and the new DA episode. And my TV kept tuning out the PBS channel for some reason. It was really weird.

Couldn't miss my Downton!
