I thought the same thing about that evil Thomas! I was cheering Cora on when she put him in his place. Then he had to go be a hero!! Did anyone pick up on Mary's snarky comment about how Edith thought it would be a good idea to set her room on fire! I'm pretty sure she didn't plan on it!

That comment made me laugh out loud! It was "Lady Edith chose to set her room on fire, but we're fine."

Haha does anybody else think Lady Violet's luncheon might have had the opposite of the intended consequence? I think she was trying to hook up the doctor and Mrs Crowley and push Lady (somebody or other?) toward Lord Merton?

but Mrs Ccrowley had a funny look in her eyes when the Dr was trying to suggest they were similar and different than those aristocrats? like maybe she was offended and that reversed her on her thoughts about Lord Merton (hope I have that name right)

what fun that could be. also not sure of the hierarchies either. if Mrs Crowley married Lord Merton would that make her a higher status than the Dowager?

I think it depends on Lord Merton's rank/title, which I cannot remember. However, he would have to be pretty far up the ranks to be higher than a Count. I am no expert on British hierarchies, but I think the title of Count is up there.

There is no Count within the British aristocracy, but there are Countesses. A Countess is the wife of an Earl. We don't know the rank of Lord Merton (I don't think). He could be an Earl, but he could also be a Baron, which is a lesser rank. They are all referred to as Lord or Lady so and so.

Eh. Titles aside, I still prefer Isobel with Dr. Clarkson over Lord Merton. I think their values and lifestyles are much more in alignment. Also, now that Baxter has made a fool of Thomas in a big way, does anyone else think that some of Cora's jewelry is about to turn up missing?

I am so excited for the new season.

I don't think she made a fool out of Thomas. She was honest with Cora and Thomas was the one who looked bad for not having been honest about Baxter's background when he first recommended her to be hired. His only saving grace was him pulling Edith out of the fire. I think him stealing jewels would be pretty obvious, but something he'd definitely try doing.

Oops, sorry I wasn't clearer! All I mean was that Baxter made him look foolish by coming forward before Thomas had a chance to blow the whistle on her. When he tried to play the hero and alert Cora, she even went so far as to (correctly) assume that he was blackmailing Baxter about her past. That's all I meant. In being honest with Cora, Baxter messed with his scheming and put him in a bad light.

Also, I agree that stealing jewels would be obvious but we've all seen what desperation (and revenge) can drive him to do.

Can't wait!!! The only thing I don't like about this show is that the season isn't long enough!

Let's just say-Mary's "Trial Run" was worth it....but then there's a twist involving the contraceptive

I thought the same thing - it WAS pretty lame. There were funny moments though - like when Anna was buying the contraceptive... that whole scene - how she took off one glove just to show her wedding ring, and she couldn't say the word, but had to point to it in a book. And then later, she said she felt like going in there to buy a bakers dozen, just to show them she shouldn't feel ashamed - ha ha ha!

I do think Mary will go through with it, but was it just me, or did her kiss with Tony look awkward?
