Downton Abbey

Good lord! They're going to make me wait almost an entire year?! That isn't very nice of them.
I hope Maggie Smith is just acting like she isn't doing so hot and that it isn't the case in reality. She's a fantastic actress.

Its been almost 2 years since the last Mad Men....I cant even remember what happened last season:lmao:

I loved that they ended this episode on a happy note!! - Carson and Mrs. Hughes were just adorable.

It's nice to finally know that what Edith signed was a power of attorney form, but I still don't think the whole Michael mystery is completely over yet. I'm guessing the "toughs" in brown shirts he was seen disagreeing with were early Nazis, so maybe he's some sort of prisoner?

Thanks again to NewRVlady for the link last week about the prince. It really helped me to understand about the letter thing in advance!

I love that Daisy is happy now, and I'm glad Mary was able to get past her worries about Bates. (I still hope he didn't actually do anything.)

I will definitely miss it now that the season is over.

I loved Mad Men! I stopped watching because my life just got too hectic to bother with tv. I have no idea what season I left on. The daughter was getting to be a teenager and sneaking out to meet a "friend." The dad just married the brunette secretary that sang a song to him in French at a birthday party. :) I have SOOOO much to catch up on. Unfortunately, my life is about to get hectic again so it looks like I won't be binge watching anytime soon. I just binged in the last season of Burn Notice this weekend with the husband.

I loved the relationship between Harold and Madeline. Any chance they'll be around next season?

I'll probably be in the minority with this but I'm kind of hoping that they leave Carson and Ms. Hughes alone. Keep them as friends. I do not see them as a romantic match at all and any kind of romance between them would ruin those two for me.

Can someone explain what Mr. Bates was forging? I watched it with my mother who talked through the whole thing! She kept asking me what was happening. I finally told her to be quiet and we would find out! In a nice way of course.

This article explains the King and his affair with married Freda-

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/king-edward-viii-foul-mouthed-handwritten-2851508

Before he was King, and left the Throne to marry divorcee' Wallis Simpson, King Edward...or "David" on the last episode had a long affair with married Freda. He wrote many love letters to her. In beginning the girls were giggling over the letter-left the table, with all their purse. The "bad gambler guy" took the letter from her purse and was either going to use for blackmail or sell the USA newspapers.

They invited bad guy to cards and planned to break into apartment and search for letter. the forged letter was supposedly in bad guys handwriting saying he was ill and they could go into apartment and get something for him -he lived at The Club and a butler opened his apartment so they could search for letter(didn't find it). When Bates learned it wasn't found, HE helped "bad guy" on with his coat and snatched the letter...figuring if it wasn't in apartment , it had to be in overcoat

It was a note for the Sampson "break in". Robert had come up with the plan , Bates said he new someone who could forge a note to gain entry into Sampsons place. He ended up forging the note himself.

I had to smile after reading this, and having just read old lady's thread about jobs for exconvicts. Mr. Bates is so multitalented after his prison stay. Valet par excellance, expert forger, pickpocket. Wonder what other talents he's hiding. :lmao:

Bumping unsavory characters off of train platforms... ;)

Well, what do you think???
First, I think Anna will be pregnant. Her & Mr. Bates talked about Lord Gillingham raising someone else's baby (George) if Mary marries him. So I think this is foreshadowing Anna's pregnancy.
Second, this isn't the first time Mary will have sex with someone w/o being married. Remember the Turkish guy (or wherever he was from) that died in her bed.
Third, I thought for sure Thomas would be out on his behind this time, but then he had to go save Edith.
Fourth, I do not like that teacher & I hope Tom doesn't fall for her. She is rude.

I thought this was absolutely one of the better episodes. Maggie Smith's facial expressions are the best. She doesn't need to say a word,(when she does they are show-stoppers) her looks tell it all. And the continuing comments about Moseley's hair -- hysterical.

I think Anna and Bates need to get through Green's death before a baby appears. Bates won't go back to jail, for sure, so something else will come up. As much as I don't like teacher-lady Sarah and Thomas Barrow, we need characters like that to spice things up. I do think Barrow's days are numbered though. I hope Baxter stays for Moseley but because of the Anna/Bates union, I don't see anything permanent there unless they ride off into the wild blue yonder and leave the show.;

I think she will be pregnant from the rape. Mr. Bates makes a comment about how he doesn't understand how a man (Lord Gillingham) can raise another man's baby. Anna tells him it's because Lord Gillingham is kind. I think she will find out she's pregnant & will have to deal with Mr. Bates who will not want to raise a baby from Green.

This new season begins about 2 years after the rape took place, so that won't be the story line. Although, that would have been interesting.

I was just going to post the same thing. Its obvious from the ages of all 3 children that quite some time has elapsed since last year's season ender. Plus, didn't Anna and Mrs. Hudson have a little chat near the end of last season where Anna said she wasntpregnant? (assume she meant shed had a period)?

Dame Maggie was in fine form last night. The way Lady Violet engineered that luncheon was something else. It will be interesting to find out more about her when this mysterious man from her last shows up.

Did they actually have sex though, or did he die before they did it? My hairdresser and I were talking about it this morning. She thinks he died before. I'm not sure. There was a discussion on twitter about it last night too.

I thought the same thing about that evil Thomas! I was cheering Cora on when she put him in his place. Then he had to go be a hero!! Did anyone pick up on Mary's snarky comment about how Edith thought it would be a good idea to set her room on fire! I'm pretty sure she didn't plan on it!

I don't like that teacher with Tom either. I think she has a motive to get into that house. She forced her way upstairs and then was insistent that she go down stairs to meet the servants. Something is off with her.

I could be wrong, but I thought in one of the later episodes last season, Anna and Mrs. Hughes had a conversation along those lines, and Mrs. Hughes made a comment about her knowing she wasn't pregnant. I could be mixing this up with the Branson episode.

Another thing I noticed in the latest episode, that although the conversation seemed to pick up where it left off in season 4, the children certainly grew. Marigold, Sybbie and George all seem to be about the same age.

The best part of the episode was the Dowager Countess making a Pride and Prejudice joke.

Very excited to see what happens next week.
