Downton Abbey

That was a disapointing season finale.

This finale was so uninspired. We were disappointed as well.

I dunno... It was nice to have a finale that for once didn't have someone get killed off, or some cliff hanger, or other shock to the system.

But, on to "Mr. Selfridge"!

I liked this episode. The time just flew by for me.

I was surprised that it was the season finale though. What season?

My only disappointment was in this being touted as a 2-hour episode. It ended too soon for what I was expecting.

Me too. I enjoyed the episode, but was disappointed that it wasn't really a two-hour finale. Looking forward to Season 5.

If you like DA, you should check out Fellows' Gosford Park. It's not as beautiful as DA, but it's directed by the late, great Robert Altman and is thus, perhaps, slightly more layered.

I LOVE this movie-agree!

I think next year will have Mary's love life resolved and Edith's baby's dad will reappear and all reunited

BTW-I have read next year is DA's last. Julian Fellows is writing a period drama for NBC-cant wait!

When do we get to see the Christmas special?

last nights episode (that ended with teh beach hand holidng scene) was the Christmas special

that is why it was 8 months later in the timeline

Thank you. Thinking back on last night's episode it makes more sense with that understanding of the timeline jump.

Yeah...the Brits had a few months break, but we saw it all lumped together

The only clue it was later was Edith talking about the baby being left with the family in Europe. Last week's episode she wasn't showing yet

I understood we had fast forwarded eight months. I'm saying I would have framed the episode differently in my mind if I understood that time skip was taking place within the constructs of the Christmas episode. Somehow I had difficulty settling into the episode last night. For me, understanding the reasoning of the time shift kind of makes what I watched somehow fit better, tidier or something.

I knew time passed but didn't realize this was the Christmas episode. They referenced that Edith was in Switzerland for 8 months. Plus last week's episode mentioned that Rose's presentation was a few months away but then it was this week's episode.

I loved this episode. Although, I thought the Dowager Countess was getting a little beat up but I suppose it was to show that her ways are the old ways. But I felt like everything was set right but there is still room for more story. Now the long wait for season 5.

I've noticed through most of this season that the Dowager Countess does not appear to be well. And I'm not talking about the episode of bronchitis that she had. She seems breathless a lot, and not nearly as energetic as last year. I hope this is a plot development, and not failing health on the part of Maggie Smith. I can't help but think of the final season of the old PBS Sherlock Holmes, when Jeremy Brett was ill. Really hope I'm reading too much into it.

I thought so also

AND Shirley McClain doesn't seem well either-way too much makeup!!!

Dame Maggie Smith had a heart scare in 2012 and they weren't sure at the time if she'd be able to film the 4th season. I see she was able to in the end, but maybe not at full stamina? Of maybe she doesn't want to be in the 5th season much and they are working up to killing her off by introducing various maladies (the bronchitis) and then shortness of breath. I guess we'll see.

Ooohhhhh! I expected the Christmas episode to center around, you know, Christmas LOL! So that really made last week's episode the season finale. Kind of an odd season ending with no really big cliffhangers other than Edith and her baby. Have they even filmed season 5 yet?

When does season 5 start?? I love this show so much. I'll be interested to see the CBS or whatever station series that JF is writing. Hope it's as good as DA!
