Downton Abbey

I think Edith's boyfriend is alive and up to something in Germany. A few episodes back when he won back the money it suggested he wasn't as nerdy as he appeared. I love that Tom has softened, and think Mrs Hughes is wonderful. I cant imagine they'll have Bates stand trial but wonder if he and Anna's relationship has been changed for good. I hope Edith also keeps her baby somehow, as she deserves some happiness.

I also wish they would make the first and last episodes of the season single ones. The show is too good to cram it in quickly.

Looking forward to Shirley Maclean's return and Paul Giammatti! Does anyone else find themselves thinking with an English accent after each episode has ended??

Is this season shorter than it was last season? I don't remember. It feels like we waited so long for it to start back up in January and now it's ending. :worried:

I feel the same way. This one seemed to go soooo quickly!

I hope Green's death really was an accident. I do think Bates went up there to do something, but maybe he was too late??? I do think Anna will look at him differently now, though.

I am wondering if what Edith signed were papers for him to get citizenship in Germany. Maybe he needed a reference from someone in his previous country of origin? I don't know what the citizenship laws would have been back then.

Did anyone else notice how quickly the Dowager left when Sybbie and George came into the room? It was like they were her Kryptonite or something.

I am liking all of the characters more this season. I have always liked Daisy, but LOVED her this past episode. I was so glad to see her visit Mr. Mason again, and her gift for Alfred... Mrs. Patmore was awesome for her little "i'm proud of you" talk.

Rose... what an idiot! "I want to see her face crumble!" yeah, let's get married out of spite!! :sad2:

I'm so sad that this coming week's will be the last episode of the season! AND I'll be on the road when it starts... now I don't know if I'll jump in in the middle and re-watch the beginning on Monday or just watch all of it on Monday... decisions, decisions!

Just an FYI

No spoilers are included here :)

I saw the 2 hour finale
For Americans one part of the story line will go over most peeps heads

Before Edward (called David) abdicated the throne and married divorcee Wallis Simpson, he had a love affair with another married woman-Freida

They are both in the last episode and most wont have a clue whatsoever who they are...

Here's a link to their love story...

Ahh--the movie The King's Speech was about the brother that then became king when Edward/David abdicated. Thanks for pointing that out!

Naaaa, I think she left because Sybbie was crying so hard and so loud. :(

I would have left too .... :lmao:

George was the one crying and I think she left because of the crying also. I was wondering if he was supposed to be crying.

No one has mentioned this: what was Edith's idea for keeping her baby that had to do with involving the farmer (who has also been hired to manage the raising of the pigs)??

From the discussion it sounded like she was going to give it to the farmer and his wife to raise as their own, but she still wanted to visit and be involved.

I think she left because a man took the baby - horror of horrors! isn't that what nannies are for???

It's the whole "children should be seen and not heard" thing. I grew up with some very old fashioned British relations and that was very much the attitude. We were Kryptonite as someone mentioned.

If you like DA, you should check out Fellows' Gosford Park. It's not as beautiful as DA, but it's directed by the late, great Robert Altman and is thus, perhaps, slightly more layered.
