Downton Abbey

When I saw the light bulb come on for Bates at the end, I was :scared1: I think Bates may :furious: over the next few episodes.

Yes, at the end you could see Bates' hand shaking while he looked at him. He definitely knows now. The synopsis for next week's epi says Bates disappears. My guess is he follows the valet when Gillingham & him leave the next day. I LOVE Mrs. Hughes! She is by far my fav character. I love how she told the valet off.
I think we may have gotten a hint at who Tom's next love may be!

So what do we think? I wonder where Bates REALLY was? :scared:

I don't think Bates would be stupid enough to kill him (at least I hope not). Not sure where else he would've gone though.
I'm so glad the love triangle with Alfred is over with. I was getting so sick of hearing those two girls constantly bickering. Daisy just needed to get over him and glad she finally did.
And the whole Edith thing is just sad. I hope she can just have the baby and to heck what anyone else thinks of her. I mean, let's be honest, it's not like she has a knack for picking the right men. Maybe she is better off not being married.

I thought it was an excellent episode. I got choked up when Mrs. Patmore was telling Daisy she was proud of her. I wonder how the Bates situation will play out. I LOVE the Dowager. She is great! And, Mrs. Hughes is my favorite. LOVE Downton Abbey.

This season has really been great in my opinion.

On Bates I don't think he had anything to do with the death of Mr. Green (is that his name?). I don't think the writers will put us through another jail situation with Bates. It probably was really an accident.

Wonder what the cliff hanger will be for the finale?

To me the drama of the baby not born yet is the hardest-its SO SAD that women of the upper classes could not keep their babies, if illegitimate ,in those days :guilty:

Been lurking on this thread for some time. I too live the show. I really enjoyed tom yesterday. I really live his character. The dowager is such a gentle woman in her own way. Her time with Edith was lovely. What a good granny.

Not looking forward to the finale. I so love my Downton on a Sunday night.

Heck, girls in my own generation were often forbidden from keeping their babies! There was a "home for unwed mothers" in my home county that my parents used to threaten me with if I ever got pregnant. And we were not any landed nobility! Just an impoverished family that would have been utterly ruined by an unplanned teen pregnancy. And this was in the relatively hip 1970s!

Back in 1970, in lower Alabama, if you got pregnant you had to drop out of school IMMEDIATELY. You could go to night school, but you must never step foot on campus again. You were permanently tainted and unwanted. If a teacher got pregnant she had to quit around 4 months, or as soon as she started to show. so as to not give kids any "ideas" or ask questions. Of the 8 girls that I knew who were pregnant at some point in HS, only 3 graduated--and one of those kept her secret until she walked in graduation and then delivered the next night, much to her mother's horror! She had no idea the girl was 9 months pregnant(and neither did anyone else!)

Season ends on Feb 23rd. I think it will be a two hour finale.

I am not caught up. I know it will be over soon so I dole out episodes a little here and there to try and make it last. I know it's pretty ridiculous.

Is this season shorter than it was last season? I don't remember. It feels like we waited so long for it to start back up in January and now it's ending. :worried:

I am wondering if Bates had someone "take care" of Green for him. Maybe his buddy from prison?

My suspicion is Bates either "stumbled" into Green at just the right moment or used his cane to trip him up. Witnesses would have thought nothing of the limping man with the cane stumbling being deliberate. If he used the cane to trip him doubtless anyone was looking down in the crowd to even notice that.

Just an FYI

No spoilers are included here :)

I saw the 2 hour finale
For Americans one part of the story line will go over most peeps heads

Before Edward (called David) abdicated the throne and married divorcee Wallis Simpson, he had a love affair with another married woman-Freida

They are both in the last episode and most wont have a clue whatsoever who they are...

Here's a link to their love story...

Me too! I had tears rolling down my cheeks.

I really want to see Edith keep the baby. I wish they could just write that into the storyline, it's breaking my heart.

I wonder if her boyfriend ditched her on purpose or if something bad really happened to him?

My favorites are Mrs. Hughes and Tom.

Does anyone else think Tom is the spitting image of a younger Emilio Estevez or is it just me?!

I feel he will come back into the story line at some point. We still don't know what she actually signed.

I love Mrs. Hughes, Tom and the Dowager. Mrs. Padmore has really grown on me. And, much to my surprise, so has Mary.
Would have been perfectly happy is someone had pushed Thomas overboard on the way back from America. Was glad to see Mosely? develop a backbone.

And, thanks to the previous poster for the link. I will be sure to check it our before next weeks episode.
