Downton Abbey

I don't know how to discuss a TV show without discussing what happened on the TV show. If I hadn't seen the episode I would not open the thread and also, not have anything to say. I'm just saying.

I think she was referring to posts like the one just before hers commenting on upcoming episodes.

I was heartbroken at Sybil's death, she was my favourite character. I just kept thinking 'she will come back to life!' But it didn't happen.

You know why we think that? Because this is possibly the very first bad thing that has happened in all seasons that will not be undone. Think about it.... every conflict gets resolved. Fairly quickly too. It gets to the point where there probably should be something bad that happens that can't be resolved. That's life. But yea....Sybill :sad2::sad2:

My DD's boyfriend sits with her while she watches her recorded shows...one being Vampire Diaries. Well today he came over, he and I were talking, and I told him I was mad because my favorite character was killed off last night. (he knows I love this show) Anyway, he said "well I'm sure she'll be back, they always come back, they are never really dead" I said "boy, you've been watching too much Vampire Diaries, this is real life, the only way she is coming back is as a ghost" LOL

I don't know why they just couldn't have made her slip into a coma, for a little while. I was so sad last night, then I got a little mad. Oh well, guess I will get over it.

I was so sad by it, but in reality, back then if someone slipped into a coma, they were going to die. A lot of women died in child birth (and children too) back then. Had they let her slip into a coma then brougth her back, it would have no longer been 'real' for me.

By "spoilers" I meant discussing episodes that haven't aired yet. If this is a thread where people want spoilers though, I get it. Some people love them. I just would rather wait and find out what happens as it airs. Of course, I don't want the thread to change just for me and would never expect that. I would just unsubscribe and you all could still have your spoiler fun :)

For the record this thread was a spoiler for me and I never opened it. However, when I went to my subscribed threads, the first sentence pretty much shows up in the preview. It was there. So be it. I wish the first sentence wasn't a dead giveaway...no pun intended.

Either way, after catching up, I'm so sad about Sybil, but it is the reality of the times. It saddens me that the doctors did nothing. That her death was a result of arguments, egos and rank and will result in continued conflict.

I love this show but this was hard to watch. Lots of tissues on hand and a lot of tears!

I'm a latecomer to this thread. I didn't watch DA until this weekend, and I came across it on Hulu. Well, between Saturday and Tuesday I watched all the episodes (Season 3 on the PBS website). I am completely hooked now. I cried like crazy about Sybil. I loved her character!!

Sybil's passing was very painful and was a shock for me. I hate spoilers, been over to imdb boards and have to very careful of spoilers because it's shown in UK a wk. earlier. I believe Cora will have a hard time forgiving his lordship.

The entire season was finished on Dec 27th (?) in the UK.
Just a heads up.
I'd stay away from anywhere it might be spoiled.

I purchased season 3 on DVD yesterday and watched the rest of it last night. I won't spoil anything but I will be watchingthis thread. I only started watching about 3 weeks ago and now own all three seasons.

I watched the last two episodes today!

Season 4 needs to HURRY.

I read somewhere that PBS is trying to bring season four to the US sooner. Hopefully it will start around the same time as the UK

I will try to find the link when I get home

Found the link:

And (sadly) the update: spoiler alert
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/15/downton-abbey-season-4-premiere-date_n_2480826.html

We still have to wait until 2014 for season 4 :(

I do not mind spoilers and will respect others wishes on that subject. However, is there a timeframe that we should wait to discuss specifics of episodes? I understand, with DVR & such, many people may not watch the show on the night it is aired. I feel bad for the poster that read the reply in her subscribed threads but (if my time stamps are correct) the PP who wrote that did so on Monday after the show aired.

I don't want to ruin the show for anyone else, but I do enjoy talking about it with other Downton fans.

FYI: The above Huffington Post Link has a MAJOR season 4 spoiler in it. Dang!

PS: Free Mr Bates, lol.

If any of you listen to podcasts, there is a great after-show recap that I listen to every week. It's Afterbuzz TV Aftershow - Downton Abbey. I swear, this week's re-cap had my crying more than the show itself. Everyone was commiserating together.

You know the one scene that haunts me still because it was just so beautifully done? Where the Dowager Countess approaches Carson, makes one statement about "we've seen a lot, you and I" and then walks away. And they just hang on that scene of her walking away, leaning heavily, carrying the weight of it. :(:( That just got me more than anything in the whole episode.

I agree. That was the most poignant moment of the episode.

Yes, it was beautifully done. Seeing the matriarch of the family, the pillar of strength, struggling to hold herself together was heartbreaking. Between that and Thomas Barrow sobbing like a baby it was enough to make anyone sob along with them.
