Down the Hole: A Pre-Trip Report w Alice, Madhatter, Cheshire Cat, & Queen of Hearts

Your binder is great! I love the cover and the letter is perfect - it makes me get goosebumps.

I'm looking forward to what Emily creates!

It is absolutely pouring rain here..I mean black, thunderstorming, pouring, it is time to build the ark kind of rain...:confused3

So what is there to do right now than to Dis while watching Sleeping Beauty and watch Malificent cause mischief...(Prince Philip-gotta love a man who can fight a dragon...;) BTW-IMHO-Aurora is a much more gracious 16 year old princess than that upstart Ariel...just sayin...Ariel is a bit of a whiner...just sayin...:confused3-very good songs though in Little Mermaid...:rolleyes1

There were definitely crowds around all the SW stuff, but we still had tons of fun. We weren't interested in the celebrities. I think those lines get long and you have to come to the park early for fastpasses. There were lots of characters we saw that we decided weren't worth waiting in lines for. We tried to just hit our musts (like the ewok:goodvibes) One of the best things are the roaming characters. These characters have no lines and are really good at staying in character. So we had little SW experiences as we just walked from one place to another:goodvibes The closing show was super crowded and the kids couldn't really see anything. The Jedi Training was really crowded too. We didn't even try it during the weekend. We waited until the next week figuring we'd have more chance to be picked. Anyway, lots of words to basically say yes it was crowded, but it was so worth it:goodvibes

We so have a Star Wars weekend in our future...:cool2:

I love this update because we are HUGE Star Wars fans at our house -- well, Connor and I are -- Charles and Chelsea tolerate it. I have had a crush on Han Solo since I was six.

Your DS will love all of the Star Wars stuff -- don't forget to look for the speeder bike that Luke and Leia ride in Return of the Jedi across from Star Tours.

That Fandex looks really neat -- I might need to pick one of them up for a stocking stuffer. :thumbsup2

I absolutely cannot wait to see what DD designs for shirts -- this sounds like a great idea for a future trip for Chelsea!

Well sister- I'm about 5-6 years older than you and I must have been crushin on Hans when I was about 12 then...:lmao: He kind of made the movies for me then but now since DS and the whole Anakin story I really like them on my own too...DD crushes on Anakin...:lmao:

DS is going to loose his mind...:rotfl2:

Thanks for the info about the cakes! I do have a birthday coming up in February.....hmmm......

I cannot wait to see what you come up with Jordan...DD will be 16 next year and I will be following all the cakes to decide what I'm going to do for her...

I think your letter to your family is just wonderful!!! :lovestruc It makes me want to go, too!

Love the cover of your binder!

I cannot wait to see what your DD comes up with for the shirts!

Thanks about the letter & binder...:goodvibes I'm a geek or a nerd-there is one that is supposed to be a bit cooler- DD explains these things to me-apparently I'm the "cooler" of the two... DD has just started your Pretrippies which I haven't read and is laughing and keeps telling me I have to read them...(apparently she is seeing similarities in our families...)

Yep-I'm looking forward to seeing the shirts too..
.

Your binder is great! I love the cover and the letter is perfect - it makes me get goosebumps.

I'm looking forward to what Emily creates!

Thanks...:goodvibes...I'll have to tell Emily the pressure is on-cause I'm going to be sharing the finished goods with the "Dis People" as she says...:lmao:

15 Days to Go!

Your binder looks beautiful! I can't wait to see what your daughter schemes up for the tshirts!

:lmao: Too funny! Chelsea had a thing for the young Obi-Wan after Episode Two -- then, she found out that there were three other films made when I was a kid -- so we sat down to watch them. She took one look at Alec Guiness, exclaimed, "He's old!" and flounced out of the room. :rotfl: I had no idea that was why she wanted to watch them!

I can't wait for the stories about DS's excitement!

Thanks about the letter & binder...:goodvibes I'm a geek or a nerd-there is one that is supposed to be a bit cooler- DD explains these things to me-apparently I'm the "cooler" of the two... I am so flattered! :goodvibes This made my day!

(A lot of Disney detractors argue that Disney isn't real, it is commercial, that it portrays history inaccurately and they may have a bit of a point. But I think they are missing the larger point. Disney is all about the art, the entertainment, the magic..... It isn't necessarily such a bad thing to see the world in a good and magical way. In fact I think it can be a very needed and good perspective to take.)

I agree, wholeheartedly! :lovestruc

It comes into play at DWD. While DS has very few sensory issues other than he is a sensation seeker-which is why he'll ride anything that his height will allow him to ride(-which I believe at this point is pretty much everything,) he does sometimes make social gaffs...not on purpose- but usually because he has has missed "the unwritten language" of a situation or is "too honest" or blunt. DWD is full of all kinds of people and being around tons of people leave us with multiple possibilites to say and do all kinds of interesting things. But mostly being at Disney is wonderful for our family-because David is totally blissed out and very comfortable there-as are we all and we all get to be together as a family-and being together as a family also makes him very happy and secure.

We've a lot of that with Billy. :grouphug:

Thanks...:goodvibes...My daughter is really a lovely teenager...(95% of the time...:lmao:)

 Yes, I have one of those, too!

15 Days to Go!

Hooray for the fifteen day mark!

I'm so glad that I finally had a chance to come over here..... we had the rain coming down in sheets here in Jersey, too! Not so good for going to the pool, but very good for reading and DIS-ing!! :thumbsup2

You're doing a wonderful job with your first report!

Looking forward to more,

Kathy

:yay: I just read thru it....

sorry I didn't come back sooner than I did, what fun I was missing! Glad to be here for the last 15 days....

You must be so excited!

So here's my little notes I took as I journeyed down the Hole w/ you...:ccat:

first we have a fondness for AIW too in our house...my DH really likes the book and the movie, he bought the VHS copy for himself eons ago. and we have a small collection of things...plus you will like a last minute souvenir I bought Mae at Epcot (coming up in a few posts in my TR)

so back to the begining....

* I know what you mean about your love affair w/ the Diz

* Just love the pictures of your kids dressed up as Wendy and Peter Pan...I so wish they had more Wendy stuff in the parks. We did the Family Tour too in 05 and were happily suprised in the end w/ them showing up and the twins (then 6) loved marching thru the streets of MK hand in hand w/ them and Aldine got to sit right next to Wendy for Mickey's PHM

* the picture of David in his Mickey snow pj's...Michael had those same ones too

* Love your Mantra for this trip...hope it works!

* The analogy you used of being in China and not knowing the language or culture to AS was a really great way to explain it.

* Boma vs BB...ok I know you already made the ressie, but just something else to bite on  would you ponder the thought of you just going and enjoying a peaceful bfast alone and let DH take the kids for rope drop opening of BB and you can bus over there and meet up w/ them? JAT

as I think another poster mentioned BB does get HOT!!!! we went to both BB and TL back in 05 and managed to arrive before opening on both, but luck was w/ us for BB as it was an overcast day so not very crowded.

* new wallet...still looking :confused3 it's coming up in the next post in my TR..but I highly recommend looking in the big China gift shop...I love their array of little wallets and pouches

* Pirates League...too cool pirate: I cannot wait to hear and see the pictures of this as I'm contemplating it for '10 trip.

* Star Wars and SWW :chewy: (just a warning of MHO) first to SW, yes we love it here too, we have toys, legos, lightsabers, cups....gotta love it! DH & I before the kids were born saw the release of Episode 4 in the show :thumbsup2

to SWW...if you do it, my one warning is it will be crowded, even w/ TGM saying the Sunday of the 3 days would be the best, it still was :crowd: like you wouldn't believe, we saw the characters, etc...but never got up close and personal...:sad2: the best experience just happend on the street w/ a trading Jawa (you can read about it my 08 TR)..if you do, do it...plan TWO DAYS for the STUDIOS then...1 just for DHS stuff on a non SWW day and then 1 for the SWW stuff...that's what we'd do if we go again in June.

Ok that's it, glad to be cuahgt up!

Yay for 15 days again and I love the letter to your family in the binder and looking forward to the end of your planning and your DD's shirts! popcorn::

Love the binder and thank you for the cake info...still trying to decide if I want one or not. :goodvibes

Your binder and your letter to the family are awesome!!! :worship: Love your idea of getting Emily to design the shirts - she can't hate them if she created them!! :goodvibes I finally remembered to ask Grumpy which t-shirt design he preferred - he said "none of them, I'm not wearing a matching shirt". To which I replied "ok, then, live up to your DIS name and look like a goof being the only family member not wearing the shirt". I think he changed his mind

Hey Disers!

I being DD aka Emily would like to explain a few things about the t-shirt making.....

So.....my mom decided to make us all wear matching shirts.....she usually understands that I am 14....but when it comes to Disney I think she thinks Im 8 again....well of of course I objected when she mentioned matching shirts......

Mom: Butttt Emily matching shirts are adorable and all the disers will take interest in the pictures....
Emily: I am not wearing a matching tee shirt......I already have a uniform for school...I want to wear what I want to Disney...I mean mom its Disney for goodness sake!
Mom: I want matching tee shirts!!
Emily: I will not wear a matching shirt I'd rather make one than ever wear one....this is what she mis-understood. I did not volunteer to make shirts.!!!!!!

So I love to sew, and my mom assigns me relentlessly with tasks related to sewing.....Quilts, Clothing, Home Dec...and now tees....

And for those of you who thought I could do whatever I wanted..I couldn't:
These were the rules:

Must have Alice Character.
May not cut tee without asking.
Must include card symbols.
May not go over budget inless your willing to pay.

So I got to work...and they are basically finished....I need to add a few finishing touches to my moms...but she'll probably take pictures and put them up tonight........

BTW (By the Way) Please don't except something amazing.....especially on my dad's and brother's I crafted them first and I feel that they are not up to standard although my dad was gushing about how he will always remember this shirt (sweet daddy)....but just a warning because with everyone pining to see what I created...Im nervous that its going to be a big let down....

----EMILY :)

It won't be a big let down; it's great that you are willing to pitch in!

hmmmmmmmmmmm...curiouser and curiouser!

I went this afternoon to have an eye exam and I had to have my eyes refracted so when I came home I was a little out of sorts and not having slept well the past several nights I asked DD if she could watch DS while I took a nap...(being the lovely daughter that she is she did...)

Well imagine this evening my surprise when I noticed that I had a new poster to my thread by the name of "snowhitelover" who turns out to be a very cute and clever petite brunette (who is slightly opinionated) and who lives under my very own roof...:scared1:

in response to certain allegations put forth
I say:

Must have Alice Character....Why yes, yes I did request this...although I'd have been open to alternative suggestions...

May not cut tee without asking...Again- why yes, yes I did request this-I thought an Alice shirt with belly showing just wouldn't be quite right...:confused3

Must include card symbols[/COLOR]...another "suggestion to unify the theme"

May not go over budget inless you're willing to pay- Well yes guilty as charged on this...we've been known to get a little off course in Michael's or JoAnne's and I didn't want the budget on the shirts to turn into the budget for a night at the Grand Floridian...

So I got to work...and they are basically finished....I need to add a few finishing touches to my moms...but she'll probably take pictures and put them up tonight........

BTW (By the Way) Please don't except something amazing.....especially on my dad's and brother's I crafted them first and I feel that they are not up to standard although my dad was gushing about how he will always remember this shirt (sweet daddy)....but just a warning because with everyone pining to see what I created...Im nervous that its going to be a big let down....[

This was just supposed to be a simple, cute project...and obviously snowwhitelover is a perfectionist...I really just wanted some cute Alice in Wonderland Shirts and instead of going to Zazzle- she graciously came through and made some...and if she doesn't stop downing her work I will be forced to start posting some of her other sewing work...like her quilts and dresses...etc.

& BTW snowhitelover-love you -but don't hijack my thread again...:sad2:
(you know-you can always write your own...:rolleyes1)

The girls shirts are more detailed than the boys cause we didn't know how far we could push them...:rotfl2:

DS-has the White Rabbit...

100_0210.jpg

DH-has the Mad Hatter...

100_0217.jpg

DD-aka snowhitelover has Alice...

100_0212.jpg

And I will have the Cheshire Cat when Completed...

Cheshire_cat_1.jpg

"We're all mad here."

2 weeks to go...:woohoo:

I love the shirts!! How clever!

We solved the "matching, yet not matching" shirt issue by using the same basic idea. I ordered raglan baseball shirts with everyone's sleeves in the same matching blue color. Then I had images of each person's favorite character put on the front.

It's nice to be co-ordinated as a family, yet have each shirt be individual!

Kathy

Emily,
The shirts are AWESOME! I love the "Curious" you added to yours and the rose embellishment! GREAT JOB!!!

Oh the shirts look great:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 I love the little extra details like the hearts and clubs. You are all going to look fabulous! I can't wait to see the results in your trip report. And 2 weeks:banana::banana:

PPP,

you and your DD's banter made me giggle...:rotfl:

I guess I am not to far from the "lovely" teenage yrs myself w/ my eldest DD Aldine...she asked this morning why I was waking her up so early today did we have somewhere to go

8 am my dear is not to early....in 3 weeks you'll be back in school and you'll be eating breakfast at 8 am....

Have to hand it to your DD...they [the shirts] are not a let down at all...quite impressive! You guys should get some great :thumbsup2 in those, I love the red ribbon touch on the bottom of DD's!

You guys really must get a group shot together w/ Alice and any other AIW characters you can find! That would awesome!

I'm all about the matching shirts to Disney...now mind you not everyday, but a few classicaly themed days are musts...and I guess w/ my eldest DD being 11 on this next Diz trip coming in '10 and then 14 probably the next time we go....I better get all the Diz matchy-matchy now why I can :upsidedow

looking forward to more

Your binder looks beautiful! I can't wait to see what your daughter schemes up for the tshirts!

Hey LL thanks about the binder...:goodvibes..."scheme is a good word for it...:lmao: I hope you're taking good care of yourself before your upcoming surgery-I'm coming to see your thread to see what's up...

I am so flattered! :goodvibes This made my day!

Chelsea has good taste...Obi Wan was pretty cute in the first three films...and I can totally understand the shock to her system to see him morph into Alec Guiness (regardless of how good an actor he was-it just isn't the same as Ian McGregor...

DS is having a small family birthday on Saturday-and he's getting pretty excited-cake, gifts, family-it's all good...:

I agree, wholeheartedly! :lovestruc

We've a lot of that with Billy. :grouphug:

 Yes, I have one of those, too!

I'm so glad that I finally had a chance to come over here..... we had the rain coming down in sheets here in Jersey, too! Not so good for going to the pool, but very good for reading and DIS-ing!! :thumbsup2

pixiedust:Welcome over Kathy -happy to see you...I am so looking forward to our trip...Disney is just such a great experience for our family-like I know it is for yours and many other families-I can really relax and not worry so much and we're all together and David is just so happy there...all of his anxiety just drains away...:goodvibes even Emily calls it her "safe" happy place...

Yay for 15 days again and I love the letter to your family in the binder and looking forward to the end of your planning and your DD's shirts! popcorn::

I've always really liked the Alice characters-the book is a very good read too...but when we were having David tested-i so identified with the absurd humor of some of what was going on...I guess at some point I decided to see the humor and craziness in it all versus becoming too angry-which wouldn't help him or me...& when I saw an Alice talking to the Cheshire cat poster in one of the pyschologists offices-it just CLICKED...I was in Wonderland...: Can't wait to see Mae's treasure...

Ah...Wendy and Peter-love them too...David is getting into Peter Pan-he likes those pirates-"they aren't too creepy-they're funny" Wasn't the Family Magic Tour fun? I would recommend it ...I'm glad I dressed the kids for that 1900 Breakfast because Emily is definately not going to dress up for me now...good as a sport as she is-she has her teenage limits...-so that those pictures as really special to me-even though she keeps trying to hide the hard copies...

I just loved those Mickey snow pjs

Thanks about the China analogy-it's so true though-and I think part of our job as parents is to make sure we can teach them as much "Chinese language and Chinese culture" so while Chinese might not be their first language-they become fluent enough to be successful in China...

and speaking of China-I saw those wallets in your trip report...and I'm coming over to respond to them and your update...I'm excited...

As far as Blizzard Beach-If DH is willing to take them to BB by himself-I could so see myself blissfully reading a book by the pool at AKL-Hmmm-will have to work on this idea...-I will happily make a trade with him...

Love the binder and thank you for the cake info...still trying to decide if I want one or not. :goodvibes
Thanks about the binder Tracy-you still have a little while to decide about a cake...

Thanks about the binder...exactly about Em and the shirts-I have her guaranteed bye in...DH would normally have nothing to go with wearing Disney clothing in the "real world" but he's pretty good about it in the "Disney world"-now because his son loves doing it...and of course daddy has to do it too...DS idolizes DD "you're the best daddy in the world" & "we're buddies"-so DH is basically putty ...

Thanks...I'll have to post a "I want to be a Jedi shirt" that DD made that is going to look mighty familiar...:surfweb:

The shirts turned out wonderful! :goodvibes

Don't worry all joking aside "snowhitelover is actually a lovely teenager...although she would be able to give you scientific reasons why a "teenager" needs to sleep later...:rolleyes1 and I actually looked it up-there is some validity to it...we are all up early this week because David had a morning camp that starts at 9 and we have to drive 45 minutes...so we've been up by 7 and i thought there were going to be tears on Monday-and that was just me...we should probably stick with this schedule or making rope drop is going to be really hard...

Oh yes get Aldine-in any costume/shirt now while you have the chance...

Hi, Emily!!!! Before I saw that your mom had already posted pics, I was going to say that I was looking forward to seeing the t-shirts so I could get ideas to assign Chelsea the t-shirts for next year. LOL! Now, that I have seen the photos, I want to say that I absolutely love them -- especially yours with Alice and the roses! Did you sew the roses on? After seeing your creations, I realize I have a lot of untapped potential in Chelsea!
