Dover Transfers from Heathrow

I rented a car from Hertz at Heathrow and did the drop off at Hertz (two jerks did do a poor job at parking and blocked all the cars behind, thanks jerk). I think it was $100 for the 3 of us.

Europcar is nearby too. I dropped my wife and kid at the port, it took me about 20 minutes to walk to the pier.

4 years ago we took a train from Victoria Station to Dover Priory. Getting a taxi at Dover Priory took a little time - there were about 10 taxis lined up waiting for the train, and we were #11. So 15 - 20 minutes later the taxis returned and it was a quick / easy trip to the port. We did this on embarkation day (we were already in London), and I would do it again.

If you don't travel during "rush hour" the costs drops significantly. We did the same returning to London, except that we went to St. Pancras to catch the Eurostar to Paris. Both directions were easy and stress free.
We took the train the previous time we sailed out of Dover. The last time our kids were free on the train so the price difference was worth it. Now our kids are older teens and the price difference wasn't that significant. In Europe Kids under 15 get discounted or free rates on many things. Something to keep in mind if you're looking at private excursions vs DCL excursions.
