Our school secretary is booked into Doubletree Suites in March. This is a family trip with her 2 grown sons, 1 daughter-in-law and 2 granddaughters. She is surprising them at Christmas, and it is something for her to look forward to, after the death of her husband this past spring. (Where better than at my "laughin' place"? )

The search is not working. Can someone please tell me everything they know about Doubletree? Rooms? Pools? Shuttles?

Also, what is recommended as far as transport from airport to the hotel. (the limo service that I used in 2000 is no longer).

Thanks guys. I want her to be well prepared for this trip.

Doubletree Suites normally provide for sophisticated, elegant and spacious accomodations, but unfortunately, NOT at this location.

Be sure to ask for a recently renovated suite, if there is such a thing (I've read many complaints about the worn-down feel to the rooms here).

I can't speak much more about this property, having never stayed there, just wanted to give you a heads-up...good luck!

Here's the info from their website, if it helps...

The Doubletree Guest Suites in Walt Disney World Resort is the only all-suite hotel INSIDE the WALT DISNEY WORLD Resort. Located in the exciting DOWNTOWN DISNEY Resort area, the hotel provides continuous, complimentary transportation to the Disney theme parks, scheduled service to the water parks and nightly transfers to Downtown Disney/Pleasure Island from 6pm-3am! As an Official Disney Hotel, guests enjoy exclusive benefits such as: preferred Golf times on Disney's 6 PGA Championship courses, priority seating at Disney restaurants, guaranteed admission into theme parks (even when they are sold out!), and more.

The full service Doubletree Guest Suites offers all the comforts of home. You'll stay in one of our deluxe one or two-bedroom suites with spacious dining area, separate living room, sofa bed, two color televisions, refrigerator, coffeemaker, microwave oven, and electronic safe. Hotel amenities include free form heated pool, children's splash pool & playground, fitness center, whirlpool, game room, lighted tennis courts, sand volleyball court, kid's theatre/playroom, restaurant & lounge.

I had a couple of friends stay here last spring and they liked it. Said it was a very nice hotel, and they would stay there again.

As far as transport from the hotel, I personally like Happy Limo.

Hope that helps! :)

Forgot to add - I bet they will enjoy the warm chocolate chip cookies and milk when they arrive. ;) Every Doubletree does this, and I love it!!

Also, if she joins HHonors (you can do it on their website), she can get expedited check out, as well as late check out, and some other stuff.

We stayed in the Doubletree Suites Downtown Disney a few years ago (97) and we really liked it. I thought the rooms were spacious and clean (no frills compared to on-site, but still comfortable). I remember having a microwave, coffee pot and refridgerator in the room...very convenient since our son was only 2 at the time. The restaurant was OK...good for breakfast and just OK for dinner. My dh and I spent an evening in the bar and that was fine. There is a Disney gift shop in the lobby. The pool was ample...had a waterfall, and was empty the day we used it. There was a small unheated kiddie pool. Transportation was fine...no worse than any other bus transportation we've used in the past. The chocolate chip cookies they give you at check-in were really good! The hotel itself is located closer to the major route (can't remember what it is...but it is the route that the Goodings supermarket is on) than to Downtown Disney. You could probably walk to Downtown Disney, but from what I remember, it was a hike (maybe we didn't walk because we had a 2 year old?? Can't remember~)

As for transfers from the airport, we've used Tiffany Towncar last year (always rented a car on prior trips) and will use them from now on. They were wonderful.

Hope your friend has a good trip.:cool1:

Forgot to mention...the only thing I DIDN'T like about the Doubletree was that the bathroom was located in the bedroom and my mom, who stayed in the living area on the pull-out sofa, had to come into the bedroom to use the bathroom while we were sleeping. Not a lot of privacy for any of us....but we survived!

BTW, the living area and the bedroom were separated by louvered folding doors and not a solid door, so there was still that "noise factor" when we were trying to put our son to sleep and we wanted to stay up longer. It was nice to have the separation, but it wasn't real private.

Thanks for the replies. I'm sure that she will enjoy herself immensely. First trips! Grandchildren! Family! How could she not??
