This WISH journal has been created for the members of the Double Dipping Traveling Turkeys to support each other in our fitness and/or weight loss goals before our Thanksgiving 2008 DCL cruise.

A President's Challenge group has also been started for us to track our physical/fitness activities. It may be found at http://www.presidentschallenge.org. The group name is the Double Dipping Traveling Turkeys. The group number is 58457.

During our journey to reach our fitness and/or weight loss goals, we will experience highs and lows, good days and bad - whatever the case may be, we are here for each other to encourage along the way.

Today is Fri 27 April 2007. I want to lose 100lbs before the cruise in November 2008. That gives me just over 18 months to realistically work towards this goal. I realize it is going to be tough, but I really want (and need) this to happen. I am blessed that I have people at work who have stepped forward to aide me along my way, plus a wonderful husband and family doing the same.

My concerns are my schedule and how it affects my eating. As a full-time working mother of five children, there is rarely a night I don't eat dinner until after 7pm. I have a long commute (2-3hrs a day) to work, followed by soccer, softball, gymnastics, football, cheerleading, scouts, tennis, etc activities for the kids. I really need to learn to choose the wiser/healthier choices when in a rush.

Another roadblock is my current health. I have another hernia that causes me to get sick almost everytime I work out, plus a lot during my regular day/evening. My plantar fasciitis is slowly getting better (or I might just be getting use to it).

I am ashamed to say I am currently 236lbs and a size 18/20W. I am breaking my overall weight loss goal into a few smaller goals to help keep me motivated.

My 1st short-term weight loss goal is 36lbs. My 1st short-term fitness goal is to run 1.5 mile in under 20 minutes, be able to do 10 real push-ups in under a minute, and 35 sit-ups in under a minute.

Best of luck to you!!!!

I understand, it's very difficult. I have a been walking everyday for atleast 45
minutes. Maybe we can keep each other motivated. Good Luck!!!

THIS IS AWESOME!!
I just started Weight Watchers this past Monday (for the 3rd time in my life!). I have slowly gained about 30 pounds over the last year. I have a few short term goals, but my long term goal is to lose 35 pounds by the cruise! That will take me from 180 (size 16) back to 145 (size 10-12).
#1 problem for me is that I am a stress/boredom eater. The last few weeks have been tough with the sales and buying process of my current home and our future home in MA. Actually just found out our septic failed inspection today. I am totally freaking out but have stayed away from the snack drawer (although I am saving a few points for a glass of wine tonight!!)

My goal is to make exercise a priority ( I HATE IT!!)

SO GLAD you started this! I need the support!!

I have the same problem being a stress/boredom eater. My DH has told me I may join WW or JC or whatever if I desire. How is WW?

Okay - I'm in!
I have to say that I'm not really over weight - just over the weight I want to be. It also isn't much that I want to lose (and keep off) - just 5 lbs. The problem is that 2 yrs ago I unintentionally lost 13 lbs due to stress/depression. I could have stood to lose abt 3 but 13 was too much according to the dr. Once I got out of the fog of the depression and was able to eat again, I gained it all back plus a few. Now maybe it's because I'm over 40 (oh no, did I just type that! :scared1:) but I just can't seem to make that scale move down for anything. It is so frustrating!
I already walk 3.5 miles M-F on my treadmill and then another 4 miles M,W,F with a friend when our schedules make it possible. I've been walking for almost 13 years now but rarely anything else. So.....
My next goal is to start some weight-bearing exercises. DH has a Hoist weight machine in the basement, but I've only worked my lower half once. That is NOT my most favorite thing to do.

Let the cheering begin......:cheer2: We can do this! Okay - no peanut M&Ms today.

Hey weight lose is relative...5 pounds.....35 pounds or 100 pounds...whatever is right for you! I have learned not to judge! I had a room mate back in my 20s (yes, I too have celebrated the first anniversary of my 39th birthday!) who couldn't gain weight to save her life. I lived with her for 2 years and watched her struggle...and although I still tell her I'd rather her struggle than mine....she really did struggle!

WW has worked well for me (except for the gaining after I went off the last time). I like the control I have and being able to eat the foods I love. I have never tried JC (although I love me some Valerie Bertanelli and Kirstie Alley!!) but am intrigued by it as well. WW is a point system. You can save up for something a little naughty when needed (like the glass of wine I needed this evening!!) I have tried it online, but need the in person weigh ins for encouragment.

I admire you ladies walking and exercise routines! I'm really going to try to get started!!

Okay, so today wasn't too great of a day. I barely ate anything this morning and afternoon, then ate too much for dinner. No workout today either. I have got to keep myself on a good routine on my days at home.

Tomorrow's another day - and hopefully a better one for me too.

I noticed I've been very thirsty today but didn't drink water like I should have. Note to self: Drink more water! :drinking1

Hello everyone! This is a great idea! I also need to lose weight. I need to lose 80 pounds but will be happy to lose at least 60 by the cruise. I used to be active and healthy growing up. I injured my knee in sports. My 1st ACL knee surgery was in high school. I didn't know it wasn't fixed properly. My knee kept going out when I was active. The weight started coming on. After the birth of my son in 1998, I weighed 100 pounds more than I did in high school. I was able to lose 80 pounds in a year without my knee going out. Then my mom became sick and we almost lost her. I started taking care of her and not me. Finally in 2003, after my knee went out AGAIN, I decided to go see a good doctor. In the past the doctors would feel my knee, give me a Cortizone shot and send me on my way. This time I went to see a doctor that works with the White Sox. I have to go. I'll be right back.

Morning all!
IRIE...don't keep us hanging! What happened with the new MD??

Went to my 2nd WW meeting last night...I lost 3.8 pounds in week 1! As excited as I was about it, it is harder this time. The last 2 times I have done WW I had much less to lose! I am trying to take it slow and appreciate the lose!

Now if I could get my butt walking!!

I'm back. Jackie - Congrats on the weight loss. O.K. I had my 2nd ACL surgery late July 2003. My knee was really damaged. He said he fixed it the best he could. I was also told I have arthritis like a 90 year old woman in my knee! He said this surgery should last 10 - 15 years and then I would have to have a total knee replacement. After 7 months of physical therapy, I wanted to slowly ease back into things. I was afraid of injuring my knee again. If that happens, I will have to have a knee replacement NOW!:sad2: I had talked to my mom about becoming active and healthy again. She told me to follow my goals and enjoy life. 2 weeks later she paseed away on April 29, 2004. I was an emotional wreck and started comfort eating. It has been 3 years since she passed away and I am ready to do this. I will be turning 40 on the cruise. My present to myself, my family, and my mom is to be the healthiest I can be. I wish all of you the best of luck. I'm cherring for everyone to be successful!:cheer2: Eat healthy, drink lots of water and of course EXERCISE!:yay:

Amy....now that is inspiration!!
I turned 40 on our first Disney cruise this past Feb....and it was the best gift to me I could have ever given! (ps my DS will also be 10 on the cruise! DD will be 10 as well, but she loves playing with girls of all ages!!)

I am really psyched that we have this group to work with! I have to say, I feel more inspired now than I did a week ago!:goodvibes

You guys are great inspiration I joined WW third week in March. Lost a little over 10 lbs so far ( I had a couple of bad weeks). I would like to lose 50 before the cruise. I started out at WW doing great and working out 4 times a week but now that softball/baseball has started I barely have time. I know no excuses. I need to do better!!!

I know exactly whast you mean. My son is in both baseball and soccer. Then, my daudhter is in both softball and soccer. EVERY evening I have practices and/or games to go to. It is difficult to work out at night. By the time we get home, I'm exhausted. I did find time to work out a little yesturday and I plan on working out more today. My biggest focus right now is watching what I eat. I have all the WW material from before so I am trying that on my own. On May 1st, I took my measuremets. I really recommend doing this. I know from the past, sometimes the scale won't move much, but I lost inches. I will take my measurements the first of every month. As difficult as it is, I will try to only go on the scale once a week.

I came home sick on Tuesday and got put on quarters Wed and Thu. Nothing like getting sick to jump start a diet. It's been Gatorade and jello for me the past few days.

On the other side though, I haven't worked out since Monday. Going back to work tomorrow and wondering what my squadron is going to be doing for our morning PT. Part of me is hoping that it's something big to make up for time lost this week; part of me is not ready for a workout (still feeling ill).

Still trying to decide if I want to do WW, JC, NutriSystem, or something similar. It looks like a few of us are already doing WW. Does anyone know if there is a program that allows teenagers also?

Friday I still didn't feel well, but felt much better than Tues or Wed. I went to work and did just under 60 minutes on the Eliptical. I kept it a 3.5mph or higher most of the time (slipping a few times while taking a drink). I think I might have sweated my fever out while working out.

Didn't eat much as nausea was still a sympton - banana in the morning, mashed potatoes in the afternoon, and ventured to a bit of chicken for dinner.

I went over my diet and exercise journals with my coworker and got a few pointers for this upcoming week. My big trouble is eating too far apart, missing lunch, and then eating too late, too much. Writing everything I eat and drink down in a journal helps.

What "tricks" have y'all learned helps you?

Another good day on the diet; not so good on the workout.

Not much working out yesterday - I was busy shuttling kids to and from games, taking extra kids home (from spending the night), plus cooking for a birthday party for the afternoon for my BIL and a friend.

Between games, DH and I met up at Subway (with several kids in tow) for lunch. I was very good - got a 6-inch turkey breast & ham with healthy trimmings, apple slices, and water. I also had them cut the 6-inch in half diagonally. After one half I was full. Guess my stomach shrunk more than I thought from being sick last week. The rest of the sandwich and apple slices are still in the refrigerator.

During the party, I had a chicken leg (grilled), a bit of mashed potatoes, and corn on the cob. I did have a thin slice of birthday cake and cheesecake.

My water intake was much better also. I realize as I start feeling better my appetite will come back, but hopefully remain smaller than beforehand.

Ok, I must confess I haven't walked in a few days, life has been just to crazy lately....I know no excuse! I am back on track tomorrow.

Hey ladies!
Well, went to NYC yesterday with DD on a trip to American Girl Place...had a blast....and too much to eat! I tried to make up for it today but haven't done as well with the H2O!
Weigh in tomorrow......
