Speaking of my small people, they want to know why THEY did not get a bio on the thread (or did htey and I don't remember typing it)? Either way both have given me lists of things I need to say about them so here goes.

DD is Marika. She is 10 and will be 11 on the cruise but looks a little more liek 14. She is tall like her father (he is 6' 5" she is already 5' 2"). Her favourtie activity is reading and she averages checking out 11 books per week from the local library (if she checks it out she reads it). She reads everything from Magic Tree House and Nanacy Drew ("20 minute books") to Shakespeare (I kid you not). The other day I found she had picked up The BeanTrees form the shelves. Hey, I got that for a class my freshman year in college:rotfl: She also loves science (especially as it relates in anyway to outerspace) and history. She enjoys art, especially sketching, weaving and water color painting and likes to write poetry. She has been a girl scout for 5 years and has no plan to stop any time soon. She loves earning those badges and planning trips (it is a type A kind of troop which skiis, hikes, visits science museums, etc.). She is also an advanced blue belt in karate which is her other passion. She is more shy and introverted than her younger borther, but once she does open up to someone she can go on (and on and on) forever. She wants to eb an aerospace engineer when she grows up.

Where's Rio's bio? Or does he get a whole separate post?

I have no idea why that posted before I was dene typing. I went in and edited to finish the Marika post and here goes the Rio:

Rio is currently 8 (will be 9 on the cruise). He is small and wirey and looks a bit like Peter Pan (whom he adores), though his hair is cut like "Jim Hawkins but without the braid" He asked to have it cut that way on Main Street the day after Treasure Planet opened and has worn it so ever since (we were so impressed the stylist knew what he was talking about). His favourite activity is dancing. He has been taking dance classes since he was 2 1/2 and loves it (if it were up to him and $$$ were no object he would take tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical, hip-hop and Irish step next year). He also dances to any and all music around the house, in a store, whatever. He loves music and he loves dancing. He likes a large and varied amount of music for a kid his age (yeah and the influence of his 80's parents is strong). He can tell you who sings a song, what the lyrics are and what track on which CD for tons of stuff. Here is the list he wrote down for me to post of a few of his favourites:
The HSM soundtrack
The Beatles
Shania Twain
Gwen Stefani
Oingo Boingo
Off Kilter
Kenny Loggins
Queen
Kenney Chesney
Tom Chapin
Selina
Chuck Berry
Michael Jackson
Blue Man Group

I tell you he is all over the map:lmao: (my dad was a DJ for 30 years we figure he gets it from him, and a bit form us). Rio also is starting to do some theatre (the kid loves to be on stage-korake is one of his favourite crusie activites) and is currently in a production of Sound of Music (part of the chorus). He adores games, epcailly Euchre, Pictionary and all the DCL game shows and also science experiments and toys. He doesn't like to commit to what he may want to be when he grows up, but he thinks he would like to work on DCL for a while as a "party host" (crusie staff) or "performer but only if I could be someone I'd be good at like Peter Pan or (this totally threw me) the wicked fairy step father (in Twice Charmed)." He also wants people to know that he "does not get" why other kids think DS and Pokeman are so much fun?!?!

Oh yes....THAT'S Rio if I ever read about him!! :lmao:

Of course the description of Marika is spot on, too...although you forgot to mention that both your kids have way too much fashion sense for their own good!

Why thank you. I do love that they don't just wear what everybody else does.

It is true that Rio cares more about clothes than any other little boy I have ever known. My good friend has a son Marika's age. She used to send us boxes of hand me downs for Rio. For the first 3 years or so there were always a couple of brand new, lovely matched KiteStrings outfits in them which Rio adored. They had been gifts from grandparetns and my friend's son hated them and only wore them (under duress) for a thank you photo. All of the sudden one year the grandparents figured it out and a box came with only clothers Davis liked in it. All sweats. Rio (4 at the time) burst into totally inconsolable tears (you know that hyper ventilating kind of crying?). When he finally calmed down enough to speak he asked if he HAD to wear that stuff? "It's so ugly." He really hasn't worn sweats since:lmao: He does have a sweatshirt hoodie for the dance studio that he wears as a jacket and teh occasional fleece sweatshirt but none of what were sweats when we were kids will go on him.

Marika has a ver yclassic style which is hard to shop for, but I like it so much better tahn the Britany Spears look her firends go for so I make the effort for her. We call her our littel Audrey Hepburn.

gosh, hadley, i think we scared everyone away! :)

Why did I get this message, but none of the previous updates on this thread??? The thread didn't even show up as updated on my subscribed thread page.

:hippie: Lemme catch up and I'll post.

Wow, you guys sound totally cool, but I have to say I want a music CD most from Rio. Any kid who likes Oingo Boingo is my new best friend!!!!

Sounds like Marika is the one to hit up for book recommendations? Pretty cool!

Erik and Jason... May I also chime in and wish one day soon that you two get to be married with all the pomp, circumstance, and pixie dust that you desire?

I am getting sooooo excited, and we have a loooong time to go. *sigh*

*wave*

:lmao:
Thanks....although we'd pass on the pomp and circumstance if we could just get some rights!....like tax breaks, social security, etc. etc. :lmao:

We, too, are very excited. Thank goodness we have several fun mini-vacations between now and the Double Dip or I'd go insane!!!

I've recruited another for you. I've been trying to get some friends on-board with us, and I'm up to one who has committed to coming through by booking a cabin.

I highly suspect he'll be on the boards because he makes fun of me/us for being so obsessive about planning for a cruise 443 days away and wondering what we're going to wear 446 days from now on Pirate Night. I don't get it. :confused3 What's the problem? I've told him he's just jealous. Huh. He DID book the cruise. See. He WAS jealous.

He's probably going to feel like he knows many of you already since I speak of you by name! :lmao:

We have been together for nearly 5 years. We bought our first house just over a year ago...and are the proud parents of a 1 year old kitten (Demeter) and 9 year old Noble Macaw (small breed of parrot---her name is Sarabi). We are DVC owners at both Saratoga Springs AND Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas (we just bought that on the recent TransAtlantic). We're WDW Annual Pass Holders....and we've been on 3 Disney cruises together (I went on one before I met Jason, too). We love WDW....we love DCL.

We have a bird too! We have a 12 year old White Eyed Conure, which looks a bit like a Hahn's Macaw.....green with (shockingly) white around the eyes. And red and yellow feathers under his wings. And lots of speckly red feathers on his face. Yay for bird lovers!

ERIK You're back:banana:     I am so happy to see the bouncing Tigger posts again. You are reviving me from my exuastion of keeping up with five kids for a good part of the day. And Erik, when New York gets its act together I have three words for you: Fairy Tale Wedding:rotfl2: nudge, nudge.

In a way, I am glad Lionel and I got married BEFORE I went all Disney nuts. I can only imagine what the bill would have been! :scared1:

That is only one inch shorter than me, which is totally and completely not fair.

Silversae (Sarah) arrives tomorrow for a week of much fun! We'll try and post some pics here. :goodvibes

Happy Friday-eve. ;)

Oh please do! Make sure you get one with Lionel shaking his head in disbelief of all your cruise forecasting! :rotfl2:

You girls planning any scrapbooking overnighters? I'll be doing that next weekend as I'm going out of town to a friend's to play with paper, scissors, and "glue". What more can a kid ask for? ::MinnieMo

Hmmmm......I dunno. I mean, I've already sucked her into the world of Disney, the world of pedicures, and back into the world of tea. If I suck her into scrapbooking too, I will never hear the end of it!

That said......I will need to get back to my very soon book to finish LAST year's cruise. So many things to scrap, so little time. :rolleyes1

Sarah, don't worry. There are scrapper support communities too. :rotfl:

:woohoo: for that very-soon-to-finish book!!! Here's a suggested plan. (Sarah, cover your eyes.) Pull that book out while she's there to pump you both up for your cruise in Oct '07 and Sept '08 and make a trip to the scrapbooking store for some Disney supplies. She'll not want to miss out on gathering the pixie dust off the floor in the atrium after the "Til We Meet Again" event, picking up one of each of the character luggage tags, and making a trip to GS for a clean, unwrinkled Navigator every day.

OOH how fun...if you know Hahn's macaws then you know pretty much what a Noble looks like. The primary difference is that Hahn's have black beaks and Nobles (like ours) have horn colored beaks....so our bird is green with a blue forehead and red shoulders. I'll have to try to post a picture of her sometime soon. I kep teasing Jason that this year we're going to take a portrait with the two of us, our cat and our bird and send it out as our family photo in holiday cards! :)

Good evening everybody. Lot's of fun posts today! I will try to catch up.

Kimeberly--way to go recruiting more geeks for us.

Brandie--yes Rio is a huge Oingo Boing fan. He likes "Dead Man's Party" best. Careful asking Marika for book recomendations--she may never stop listing them once she starts:rotfl:

Erica--I hate to tell you this but there will probably be an 11 year old girl on the crusie taller than you are. She suddenly seemed taller to us last night, and three other people commented today that she looked taller (and she was wearing totally skinny, flat flip flops) so she may have already caught up to you (don't worry I am only 5'5" and I figure she'll be taller than me on the cruise also). Too bad they didn't measure her heighth at the ER today--which conviently leads me to today's story of the day:

The kids had gymanstics today (which, by the way, D absolutely adored). Marika managed to fall sideway into a small spot with no matt (off a spring board she was jumping hard on no less) and land with all of her weight on one wrist (and the "regular" floor is astroturf covered concrete). Needless to say she now has her first borken bone. We were at the ER for about 2 1/2 hours. This was by far the most trying expereince I have had with D (hard to be calm when one of my babies is in pain--and boy was she, fought back tears and little sharp intakes of breath with every movement, etc). He was mad that he had to leave gymanstics early and BORED and had no qualms with shouting about this, etc. After the X-rays had confirmed that her wrist was indeed broken and while we were waiting for the splint he very intentionally grabbed said wrist and squeezed with all his might (you should have heard my poor girl shriek). I seperated them as quickly as I could without harming him or causing her mroe pain and then held him restrained on my lap for about 30 seconds while I breathed slowly and deeply and coutned backwards. Once I could talk without yelling I turned him around, looked him right in the eye and used my best, ultra stern, this is not a bluff voice to let him know that if he so much as put a pinky on her, or any other injured person again he would be staying home all weekend with no computer or TV and could be bored then while Marika and Rio went and did the fun things we had planned. Thank goodness I have had years of teaching and mom experience to perfect that voice as the message seemed to get through (and luckily we only had to wait about 30 minutes after that). He may only be 7 and far from home but I do not tolerate injuring people like that. Period. Other than the ER time, it was a good day with Pizza Hut buffet for lunch, weaving class and then gymnastics and then we ended up at Outback for dinner because it was past dinner time when we left the ER and it was Marika's choice.

Oh double poor Marika. :sad1: I'm sorry you had such a stressful, challenging day as well, Hadley. That's going to totally stink to be in a cast during the summer break.

:drinking1 Here's to a new day and safe tomorrow!

Hello all - My turn to catch up.

Kimberly - Keep the Geeks coming! I'm working on getting one of our Geek friends to book - I've tried asking him if he has booked every time I talk to him, but now I'm pulling out the big guns! I'm sending him a tropical shirt with a note saying "Have you booked yet?"

Hadley - Ouch! Tell Marika we are sending pixie dust :wizard: her way so she might feel better faster! I told DS - Grady about his lab buddy - Rio and he is looking forward to meeting him!

And to everyone else - The kids and I are leaving Sat morning to Oregon for 2weeks, so if everyone could kindly refrain from posting too much while I am gone it will make it a lot easier to catch up when I get home. :rolleyes1 :lmao: :lmao:

Just kidding - I'll just have to get a Vente Coffee from Starbucks and read away :surfweb:
