Kimberly what an awesome gift. I would so love to have the time to learn how to put something like that together. What program do you use to create the pages? If you already said I am sorry I missed it.

Lois - Not trying to step on Kimberly's toes here, but she did note that she did this on Snapfish. Alot of the sites now have the capability of putting these digital scrapbooks together. They usually start with a standard size for a set $ amount (i.e. x amount of pages) but you can add pages to them (for more $$ of course). They have available templates to use for backgrounds so you pick and choose (i.e. vacation, wedding, etc). You upload your pictures and decide which pictures to put on which pages. They kind of guide you to some extent (i.e. one page layout might have 2 pictures or one might have the collage type that she used on one of the pages). It can take a little time (especially trying to decide which pictures to use) but you can save it so you don't have to do everything at one time. Once it's ready, you submit it to print. That's when they will actually charge you. I've seen several of these (my sister actually has a couple and made one for my Mom for their last cruise) and they look absolutely beautiful.

Thanks for all the compliments! :)

Melodie, my toes aren't sore, so you're not stepping on them at all!

Lois, she's right-on! I can't even say it took talent to put it together! I personally selected what background "papers" I wanted on each page, but it can be as simple as saying you just want one particular themed template as Melodie mentioned (like travel, baby, celebrations, winter, Christmas, French Country, floral, etc), and the tool the website has you use will automatically select different papers for each page. Then, you can say you have 4 photos you want to put on one page, and they'll give you various layouts to choose from and you personally decide which photos go in each spot.....OR, you can just say you want to have the photos automatically placed in the book (called EasyFill on Snapfish), and in minutes, you have a completed book. You can even choose what color you want the outside cover to be! So it can be a simple project with the automated option, or like for mine, I made a decision on every page, so it took me a couple of hours.

Kodak Gallery also has photo books, and I know even a local camera store here in Columbus, Cord Camera, has an on-line photobook to make. So if you don't like the background papers/themes on one website, try another.

As for prices at Snapfish, the base price for mine that had 20 pages was $30. Then if you have more identical books made, each additional was 25% off. FURTHERMORE, I used MrRebates.com, which gives me 12% back in rebates. So in the end, I got 3 books that averaged $22 a piece. That's a HUGE bargain IMO for such an awesome item!

OH KIMBERLY I LOVE IT! I wanted to do something like this for the boys for xmas but never got around to it.

I did make calanders on vistaprint.com for some family members my mom and E of our dis pics they took on board.

Today, Wednesday, QVC has a Today's Special Value for a 25 page book that's either an 8"x8" or 12"x12" sized photobook. You'll download from the Shutterfly website for $33/$56. These appear to be predefined themed books, but they look even more like a digital scrapbook than mine.

http://www.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp.aspx?view=2&app=detail&params=item^F05964,frames^y,from^se,cm_scid^isrc,cm_ssi^Item:%20F05964&cm_re=PAGE-_-SEARCH-_-F05964

BTW, you don't have to MAKE the book today for this special price. You just have to decide what size you want and pay for it. Apparently QVC will mail you whatever you need to place your order on-line later.

Drea, I'm sure the calendars were a HUGE hit!

Thanks guys for the info. When the doctor tells me I have to stop walking on my broken foot I will look into it and see what I can do. Lois

Happy New Year!!!!!

One day closer to my next vacation and still counting.

Thanks for all the compliments! :)

Wow - great price!!! And I didn't mean to imply that it was easy. I've seen my sister working on one and it can be complex and take time. I scrapbook and sometimes I think it's easier to physically have the photos and lay them out then to lay them out electronically. The one good thing is that you don't need any special tools like you use when you do a regular scrapbook. This makes is accessible to everyone.

So true! We all know that allllllll the tools we buy really adds up in price! I think the beauty of this option what you stated as well as it CAN be quick and easy. It's up to you if you want to let the tool do its thing or you can do it for it! Unfortunately, I am too controlling, so it took me awhile!

I still LOVE LOVE LOVE to scrapbook the old fashioned way though!

Speaking of....I once again signed up for the scrapbook weekend in Amish Country (in Ohio) in March. I'm really looking forward to it and a scrap break to Heini's Cheese Chalet!

Happy New Year, everybody!

Dave and I are working at a New Year's Eve party at the science center where I work tonight. It only goes until but we are expecting over 400 people so it should be quite the family fun party!

Hope everybody has a safe and wonderful New Year's Eve!

Hi all. Just wanted to check in. I am so jealous of those of you who are looking forward to your next scheduled cruises. Unfortunetly, our construction business has taken a hard hit with the bad economy and we won't be able to book our next cruise any time soon. :sad2:

Some of you may remember this summer I posted about my aunt who had cancer and we did a lot of fundraising for her. Well, on Sunday evening she passed away after a courageous battle. So, we have just been trying to deal. I plan on speaking at her funeral on Friday, if I can hold myself together. Thank you to all of you who sent well wishes and took the time to look at her website. You guys are the best!

On a lighter note, the pregnancy is moving along nicely..........slowly........but nicely ;) I rarely get sick any more, just tired a lot. We find out on JANUARY 14TH if we are expecting a little prince or princess. I have a strong feeling that we are having a little girl, but I may be wrong. I will let you all know.

HAVE A FUN AND SAFE NEW YEARS! I will be sipping sparkling cider and will probably end up watching the ball drop on the East Coast (9:00 p.m. my time) I can't stay up very late these days :rotfl:

Arin, it's so great to "see" you again! I was thinking of you just earlier this week! I can't wait to hear about your (think pink) baby's sex! I bet the kids are anxious themselves.

 So sorry to hear about your aunt's battle coming to an end. It sounded like she was such a tremendous inspiration. I'll keep you and the rest of the family in my thoughts as you go through this difficult transition.

I'm so sorry about the financial hit on your business. That totally sucks. I hope there will be more confidence much sooner than later.

No doubt it's been a tough week, but hang in there and celebrate the joy your aunt put into your lives!

Arin - So sorry to hear about your Aunt  . Sounds like a tough time all around for you. At least 2008 did bring you some happier times - DD cruise and the little stowaway. I know you have the strength to do what you need to do on Friday and my thoughts and prayers will be with you. Keep looking forward, 2009 will hopefully be better!

Arin, I'm so sorry to hear about your aunt. Please know that I'll be thinking about you and your family on Friday. I just found out that my co-worker's brother-in-law died last night and he was very broken up about it today.

But...as far as baby news is concerned, I'm happy to hear that you're not as sick as much anymore! That's good to hear! Can't wait to hear if it is a prince or a princess! :)

I went for my pre-op blood work today for my surgery next week. So, I'm all set for surgery on Wednesday. I'll honestly be happy when it's over.

Happy New Year, everyone!!!! :)

Arin, both Janet and I are sorry for your lost. Remember that she will forever live in your hearts and memories. She will join you at some of the oddest times and become a part of what you are doing. At least I find that still, years after my mother has passed.

As far as a cruise you will get to go when it is time. Janet and I have plans to go to WDW this summer but will not cruise again until at least 2011. So maybe we will see you.

I have a prayer request if I may. A co-worker's borther was at a Christmas party a few weeks ago and he was assulted and injured. He remains in the hospital and unresponsive. They are being to think that he will never come back. Please in this new year help me get those prayers out so we can have the first miracal of the year. His name is Ron Lake and he truely does need a miracal.

HAPPY NEW YEAR to each of you!!! Till we meet again, Lois

What a horrible thing to happen at such a joyous time of the year. My hopes and prayers are that he defies the doctors and God brings him back to his family.
:grouphug:

HAPPY 2009 EVERYONE!!!!

Best wishes for a happy and healthy new year to my new DD friends.

Oh Lois....that's horrible. Melodie summed up my thoughts exactly as I was going to state.

The mother one of my elementary-high school friend's (Laura) had a mastectomy yesterday. After going in, they are cautiously optimistic that the cancer did not spread to her lymph nodes. Her mom ranks at either the best or next to best teacher I had growing up! She teaches English, and she broke it down so our language make sense. It’s like the light bulb went off. To this day, I recall grammar rules based on tools she gave us. I could dissect and diagram a sentence like no one’s business! Interesting that during this time of her illness, someone else from my high school stated the same thing about her! It just demonstrates how important it is for your children to get exceptional education.

Laura’s dad was also in education, and while we were in elementary school, he was our principle. He also became the superintendant of our school district. He passed away when we were in middle school with cancer. I would be beyond sad to see Laura and her sister lose another parent at a premature age. Thankfully research and awareness has led to so many breast cancer survivors. Let’s just hope and pray that they found her’s early enough!
