Did I miss something? What are 'social cards'?
Sorry if it is a stupid question......

I think they are like business cards to give out to friends you meet on the cruise in order to stay in touch :confused3

Great to see you again!! Did you guys have any challenges with Gustav?

I would be more than happy to stop by to help the kids. This has got me to thinking.........

There are a couple of you who have requested that we stop by your cabin to see and/or sign something. I want to note that in Post #1. I'm so afraid I'll forget someone, and I know others want to help you out, too. So, right now all I can specifically remember besides Nemontinksmom is Heather (CrazyZeus1) (well, there's my selfish scrapbook autograph signing, too).

Gustav brough us LOTS of rain and wind and lots of Louisiana evacuees. We are in a rural area, so there were several roads/bridges out, which caused schools to be closed for two days, but nothing major.

Thanks for putting our map on Post #1. I am making a note to myself to print that off before leaving as well.

Hi! I think your map idea is a great one...I posted last week that we're doing one too! Great minds think alike...

I just printed off a map of the US, since trying to incorporate other countries (I know we have Canada & NZ...anywhere else?) was too hard with our map. We decided to focus on the 50 states since that's where the great majority of our friends would be from. I think I might put up a sheet that says something to the effect of "If you don't see your location, tell me where you're from!" and put a pen with it on the door. We'll see if I get THAT motivated!

When we get home, we plan to graph the number of stickers on each state with a bar graph.

As far as Mancala...it's somewhat like a board game. You have a "board" with little "pits" and you have stones that go into each "pit" The two players take turns dropping the stones into the "pits" and the goal is to capture the other player's stones, block their moves to capture yours, & end up with the most stones at the end of the game. If you google "Mancala" we found an online version you could play to help you learn. It's a fantastic game, & Reese just turned 5 and has learned how to play. It's even more fun to play with an older child or adult who uses strategy to win!

Well, maybe that's where my idea came from....! :confused3 I try to catch up on these posts a week at a time (very hard to do. Ya'll are so chatty!), so perhaps I read about your map idea, and it just didn't register until today. I haven't figured out exactly what I'm going to do, but I'll let you know if I have any brainstorms!

I'll have to google Mancala. It's been a long week, and I'm having a hard time picturing it right now.

I tried to convince a friend of mine to book this trip with us. Saw her yesterday. "Do you remember that cruise I wanted you to go on with us? We'll be there in 3 weeks!!"

We can do the doc dance now :cool1: :cool1:

Got docs for both cruises. They both came in the same pack.

We leave in 14 days :cool1: .

DH is officially retired as of Friday am ....... so another adventure in our life is about to begin......:dance3:

Have a nice day everyone....we are off now to take a motorcycle ride.:moped:

ALL RIGHT!!! Congratulations!

So, believe it or not, a small tornado went through Allentown, PA yesterday! It damaged about 100 homes...but it's scary because it was in the middle of the city! :scared1: I hate the thought of possibly having a tornado, thankfully it doesn't happen too often around here.

 Yikes!!!! Are you ok ... and your family??

Did I miss something? What are 'social cards'?

I was wondering if everyone is making these.

Love this idea

Where is Videoman? I think he was the one who shared the picture, what are some good options for times?

The VidMan had surgery on Friday. I'm praying all went well and that he's recovering easily.

....Ok...on another note....I'm working on our 'social cards' and was wondering if you guys put your home phone number on them? I have our email address which is usually the best way to get us but wasn't sure what the norm is.

...I was wondering if everyone is making these....

I haven't and don't plan to make them. All of you know how to reach me here, and I am more than willing to give anyone in our group my personal contact info. If I have time for other new friends (haha) at dinner or something like that, I can plan to write my info down for someone else and hand it over later. I'm just thinking I won't have many random interactions where I would pass these out. That's just me. I think it's an awesome idea though.

I have cards I printed up to give out to anyone who might want our contact info. May opt to add them to the FE. Lois

Just a funny observation....

Kimberly so kindly opened this thread on Thursday and we went through approximately 12 pages. Saturday and Sunday - only 6 pages in two days. Now obviously we are all very busy with life and getting ready for our cruise (on the weekends) and apparently we have more time throughout the week to talk (maybe during that pesky thing that allowed us to book this cruise - work :rolleyes1 ).

Personally, I had a productive weekend. I started going through all the clothes I could take for the cruise and found myself sorely lacking. So what's a girl to do but SHOP!!! Started hitting the stores for sales and found a couple good ones including a pair of nice black dress slacks for $1. Yup, those pants and a pair of red capris and I spent a whopping $6 at TJMaxx. I also hit Ross, Target, Fashion Bug and Kohl's. So, I have added 5 tops, 4 capri pants and one dress slack to my suitcase for under $75!!!!

I was able to print it out after having filled out the other forms (guest information, payment authorization, and flight information). They send you the same thing in the mail though with your docs.
It shows a check mark next to everything I filled out online and says they are all completed. I went back through and checked everything. I can't figure out why it won't let me print them out. Weird.. I guess I will just wait for the docs.. maybe tomorrow? :confused3

How funny you are talking about this game. We were just at Target today and found it for $4.99. My son saw it and said he played it at school and loved it. I bought it and figured we could play it on the plane. We already played it today. It's pretty fun.. different.

Buckeye Gal : I was thinking about you today and my DH thought I was nuts :rolleyes1 We were going to breakfast and saw a NJ license plate that said... BUQEYES, and it had an Ohio State license plate frame that said Buckeyes and some Buckeyes decals on the back window..

So he had the "Disney" thought right, cause he said, look it stands for Bug Eyes.. :3dglasses and laughed cause he knew it didn't really mean that but he had Disney on the brain...

Well... I said Nooo silly thats a license plate that Buckeye Gal would love to have on the Dis Boards... get close so I can take a picture for her.. ;)

DH rolled his eyes and mumbled.. Should of known..

:rolleyes1

Melodie, very good and funny observation! Since we are getting into crunch-time mode, I'm not surprised! AWESOME deals you got this weekend!!

I went shopping with a friend today to find her a dress for an event at work Friday night. Wouldn't you know she couldn't find anything. She didn't make one purchase. I, on the otherhand, who planned to spend NO money today, came home with a new pair of shoes that I didn't need for my formal dress yet we both just LOVED (the other two I own that I was comptemplating on wearing would work just fine), another pair of shoes that I've eyed at DSW for a couple of months that was on clearance, and different jewlery than I planned to wear with my formal dress. I think neither of us want to go shopping with the other again! :rotfl: I go to support her and come home with $120 in stuff that I never intended to buy, and she goes home empty-handed when she didn't want to!!

Okay...I need some help from our DCL veterans. Earlier today I added a new section at the bottom of Post #1 so those of us who are DCL virgins will have our act together during the first 24 hours on board. Can you all please take a look at the list and let me know what else should be added to the list of things to take care of asap upon arrival? Is there anything listed that isn't properly stated or warrants more details?

Thanks for adding that Kimberly. I hadn't realized that we had to pick up tickets to the character breakfast, I thought that everyone is automatically assigned a day and time to go.

You're welcome...it's there for selfish reasons, too! ;)

If I'm wrong about the Character Breakfast, I hope someone who's been through the experience will let me know. Personally I thought I had read that there is limited seating. :confused3

BTW, I LOVE your Tinkertini!! She's my favorite!

Weird we didn't print out those actual forms, but once we were done with them we printed off the cruise. Do you have the option now to click on "Fill Out Form" button next to DCL Cruise contract? Once you do that I believe you click continue to agree to it and then you can print. Also maybe try clearing all your cookies on your computer maybe that is causing the problem. Hopefully your docs arrive tomorrow I know mine took longer they left Orlando on 8/29 and I did not get them until Friday the 5th and it was supposed to be 3 day.

Kimberly, last time we cruised the tickets for the Character Breakfast were in our room. I'm pretty sure you get an assigned day & time depending on your dinner rotation & time. So you don't have to pick up tickets :goodvibes .

Good evening everyone!

I can't wait to watch the MTV VMA's because Britney Spears is opening the show and I have been a Britney fan since 1993 when she joined the Mickey Mouse Club!!! I can't wait to see it!!!!

I watched - and boyyyyy, do I feel old now. I didn't know who half of those bozos were. My biggest laugh of the night was the LOOK Britney gave Kobe Bryant when he walked out to present the final award... good grief, she eyed him like he was a buffet!!! :rotfl2: My DH and I were in hysterics!

The highlight of the show for me was, of course, Michael Phelps. :lovestruc I cannot WAIT to see that goofster host SNL next weekend... it's going to be so awkward it'll be funny!

I kind of feel the same way, I feel like I "know" everyone and dont think there will be much time to get to know others, I know EVERYONE at my table:thumbsup2

Thank for shopping at TJMaxx, that is the company Dh works for, they are also Home Goods and Marshalls

It seems as if everyone is almost ready to go....:cool1:

I guess I better get my but in gear and start packing:scared:

I'm having a hard time finding DS7 a suit. Any suggestions:confused:

Here's your first weather alert of the day... 5:02 am

MIAMI (AP) - Hurricane center says Ike weakens to Cat. 2 storm;
tropical storm warning issued for Fla. Keys.

(Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)

Good Monday Morning! Three weeks from today we'll be enjoying our first day at sea!

I hope you all had a great weekend. I spent most of mine packing, cutting tags off of new clothes, shoe shopping and stressing over everything! Two weeks from today I'll be in WDW with 17 suitcases! LOL!:lmao:

Here's your update on Hurricane Ike.:headache:
Ike is roaring over Cuba as a category 2 with winds of 105 mph. He'll really do a number on the island nation. Good luck Castro! The FL Keys are being evacuated. A tropical storm warning is posted for the Keys. Ike will die down to a cat 1 after crossing Cuba, then head into the Gulf. Grand Caymen will only feel moderate winds and seas! That's good news for us. Even better, CC will see little wind and seas today. The big question... where will Ike go? Texas seems to be likely. If the winds shift it could move to Mexico. We'll have to wait and see.
