Ok, Hurricane Ike is giving me a huge headache. He's swirling across Cuba with 100 mph winds, Cat 2. He'll stay there until tomorrow morning then enter the Gulf of Mexico. The Florida Keys will be swipped with winds and rain. Sounds like those media people are making too much of Ike and FL. Darn them!

I went shopping with a friend today to find her a dress for an event at work Friday night. Wouldn't you know she couldn't find anything. She didn't make one purchase. I, on the otherhand, who planned to spend NO money today, came home with a new pair of shoes that I didn't need for my formal dress yet we both just LOVED (the other two I own that I was comptemplating on wearing would work just fine), another pair of shoes that I've eyed at DSW for a couple of months that was on clearance, and different jewlery than I planned to wear with my formal dress. I think neither of us want to go shopping with the other again! I go to support her and come home with $120 in stuff that I never intended to buy, and she goes home empty-handed when she didn't want to!!
This always happens to me too.. I go with a friend she gets nothing I walk out with a ton of deals, and then if we go in vise versa I walk out empty handed

Okay...I need some help from our DCL veterans. Earlier today I added a new section at the bottom of Post #1 so those of us who are DCL virgins will have our act together during the first 24 hours on board. Can you all please take a look at the list and let me know what else should be added to the list of things to take care of asap upon arrival? Is there anything listed that isn't properly stated or warrants more details?

The highlight of the show for me was, of course, Michael Phelps. I cannot WAIT to see that goofster host SNL next weekend... it's going to be so awkward it'll be funny!

Okay....I am so pathetic. I was getting ready for work this morning, and suddenly this thought came over me. "Only one more Monday left to wake up on a Monday to go to work!" WHOA!! Really??? That hit me hard. Then I walked through the doors with laptop in tow, and by the time I hit the elevators I thought "Only ONE more Monday!!! OMG is it possible?"

And I will be in Norfolk this weekend going to go see Paula Dean. Hoping to talk my friends into taking the harbour tour to see her up close.

*Going to mail my box today. Had to repack it.. E did a horrible job.. only got half the stuff I gave him in the box. When I showed him how I packed it he was impressed. Told him it is from all the practice with mailing him care packages while he was away LOL

**also I was making a button to put on my backback fro when we go to the parks, and E asked if he gets one... I said no.. he asked why? I said cuz Im a DIS Member your not.. .got a big OHHH with a somewhat sad face LOL. I said You want to sign up on the DIS... and he proceeded to say OH NO IM OK... ONE OF US IN THAT CULT IS ENOUGH LOL... suffice to say Im going to make one that says anewmac's DH (Im not part of the cult, just married to it!)

I LOVE Home Goods, too! I went there last week to pick up some Ginger Chews from The Ginger People. I rarely go there disappointed that they don’t have some, and this trip was no exception! I also got some awesome bright orange fluffy Tommy Hilfiger towels on clearance. Very cheerful!

You ARE a genius! See….the most reliable newsperson in the industry is right here amongst us! That’s great news that the Keys don’t have to evacuate. Fingers crossed for the Gulf coast.

Okay… There have been a few comments you’ve made that makes me wonder if you are including work with your vacation. You’ve mentioned something about the safety of your crew and today you say you have 17 suitcases!! Hmmmmm…..

For your sake, I really hope you don't have to work....well, it's then a paid escape from the office to the happiest place on Earth, isn't it! Okay. I don't feel so sorry anymore! Well, then there's the rest of the family to pay for. Okay. I still don't want you to have to work!

I have put on my calendar to mail ours on Thursday, and then I’m mailing another box with our pirate hats in it to my WDW resort on Friday as well. (Darn it...I still haven't put that maribu on my hat!)

Shipping Boxes...reminds me....
Keep in mind that it’s stated that boxes should arrive no more than 2 weeks before sailing. Yours, Drea, has the furthest to go, so it does need some good commute time, assuming you’re going with ground transportation.

If you're mailing Priority hold on to it another week at least. That only takes 3-5 Days and the more time it sits around the Port warehouse (or wherever they stash that stuff), more chance for it to get lost.

This reminds me, was reading a FE thread on the main board and a couple of people mentioned that a lot of non-FE participators put out the FE's. And I'm not talking about Late sign ups or anything, we're talking about NON-DIS'ers!!! And I asked, b/c I thought the FE was DIS-exclusive and I was told not anymore. And one other person posted that they were just putting the treats in the FE's as they came across them, and then did not have enough for all the FE's, even the ones in their meet group, since it turned out there were so many others out there!!! Wouldn't want that to happen to any of us, so I would have to suggest taking the list or treasure map with you!!

PASSPORT/I.D. QUESTION:Having never traveled using a passport before, please bare with me as I ask a couple of stupid questions. I purchased Passports for myself and DH and Passport Cards for my kids. So, I only need to bring the Passport Cards for the kids right? No Birth Cert. or anything else will be needed? And for DH and I, we only need our passports and Drivers license? Also, my I.D. has the "new address sticker" on it, that is o.k. right? Or do I need to go and get a new I.D.?

You are correct, no need for BC's at all if you have the PP's.
As far as the DL address sticker. we don't have that here in FL (if you move you just have a certain amount of time to get a new one...or else!) so I don't know, but I would imagine if that is acceptable in your state, then it should be fine. Besides, with a PP, a DL becomes a secondary form of ID anyway....

I think they are like business cards to give out to friends you meet on the cruise in order to stay in touch

This is correct, and I wouldn't be making them but no matter where we go my husband always finds tons of people he wants to give our home address to. (He's a networker that one). So I figured this would be much easier than writing it down each time.

Have you looked at any of the second hand suit stores? Especially for kids, there are usually suits that have been worn once or twice. My mom used to always find something that would work for my brothers. Saved a bunch of money too.



You're joking right? Cat 2? Down to Cat 1 after Cuba? I'm gonna kill someone! DH was called off of standby and left about an hour ago to prepare for the hurricane. He expects to be gone about 10 days. Stupid TX governor.

Try goodwill and the salvation army stores as well. I found DH a new suit with tags at one once for like $10. I'm dressing DS in pants, long sleeve shirt and sweater vest for formal night.....I just couldn't add the stress of finding him a suit to everything else going on.

Yes, I will be taking my list. I don't have enough for extras and mine have *name* tags on them so that everyone knows which bag is for which family member. This also makes our message boards SO important. If a room number changes, it NEEDS to be on the board so that we can make the change on our FE list.

All I can say is sorry Texas!

Crews will fly into Ike this afternoon, he's a cat 2 but is expect to grow to a cat 3. Sorry Texas.

The Cayman Sister are under a tropical storm warning. Which means conditions are right for winds under 74 and high surf. 2 to 4 inches of rain is expected to fall. I've been to the Caymans right after some Hurricane, can't remember the name, they fair pretty well. It's only sand and palm trees!

The next udate comes at 5pm... looking into the crystal ball... Ike should stay a cat 2 until tomorrow sometime. He will build more power over the open, warm waters of the Gulf.

The good news... still NOTHING in the open Atlantic!

I've been up since 10pm last night! Need some sleep. Look for your morning report around 5:00 am.

Uh oh….I’m going to get slapped for this one. My plan was to use UPS ground. **duck** We can use our corporate discount for personal use as long as you have it shipped from work. I tell ya what…when I go down there, I’ll have them quote me USPS and UPS and get back with you with the results.

Deb (the FE originator) probably never imagined that she would change the world with her "sharing some love" concept! Everyone's doing it! I really bet that there's a mixture of how non-DISers have gotten started doing it too. As B said, some coming from other DIS-like sites, and others who simply saw them and thought what a great idea! If you're doing a Grand Gathering, it really would be cool to get everyone in your own group "doing-it"!
