Parents... all good behavior ideas. Some I've never even thought of. Thank you! She's really a good kid, just SPOILED ROTTEN by us, my bad. What kid wouldn't love 2 weeks with the mouse?! We keep telling her how lucky she is (we live in a very rural and I'm sad to say poor town.) But, my DH and I work very hard for everything we have and we want her to have everything we can provide.

Now if you would kindly submit your cabin number... when I need an escape I have some place sane to go! I'll bring my own booze.

I think I love you! Do you babysit on the Mickey ship?

I only babysit if it cannot be avoided but you are welcome in our stateroom if you need time away. :rotfl: I am sure you and your daughter will be fine. I so look forward to meeting everyone. If you can't tell I work with folks who have behavioral challenges and assist in creating behavioral plan all the time. Lois

Either Quiet Cove with FatCat and Charlie or listen to channel 9-27 on the two way

I have the best cure for stress... 7 fun filled days in the Caribbean on the Mickey Boat with plenty of drinks with umbrellas in them! Don't forget good friends to share with you!

can I AHMEN that! Man I don't think there is a person here who is not in count down mode already.

Hey I told my husband about you needing a shopping partner..he just shook his head and said 'ok..how much are we talking'. My response? Don't know..depends on how much we all find :rotfl2:

For those of you doing Dolphin encounters in Cozumel – They mention that only biodegradable sun block products are allowed. Do you plan on bringing this with you? Is it available at Chankanaab? Do they charge you for it? How do they know what you are using? Has anyone found eco-friendly products locally as opposed to ordering online from, say, Mexi-Tan?

If it is 19.95 on line wonder what they will charge you for it there???

Before I head off to my dark home, just a few quick responses to today's chitter chatter..

sjsinness, WELCOME!!! You're not alone with the last minute booking! Glad you found us, and don't be shy to jump right on in on the thread.

mslady32, oh I am so sorry to hear about all you're dealing with. I really really hope that you can get refunded your vacation money so you can schedule a new trip soon! Good luck!!

Erik, indeed what you got in weather last night was in part Ike! I have this lovely visual of you and Jason running down the street in your PJs chasing pillows. Thanks for that! :rotfl2:

Melodie is correct that Ike did pair up with another front to make it pretty rough for us. We did not, however, have hardly ANY rain. We had a few sprinkles Sunday night, but that was it. Really nothing to speak of. So I'm thankful that whatever flooding you read about wasn't from the Columbus area.

Nenner1 Jen, cute small print there! No such luck!

Drea, Chris, and Adrienne....I am COMPLETELY embarrassed by the quality of work Saturday night! So Drea, you likely could have been right that I was in hiding from being mordified! That pic you posted, Drea, was really "in your face" though! So glad to hear that you quickly recovered from feeling sorry for me....NICE, missy!!

Well, carry-on everyone! You were indeed busy on here today!

FOUR MORE SLEEPS! (Well, minus one because Friday I should be "too excited to sleep"!)

TTFN

Ok everyone, I know I had to get a pep talk a while back but I need another one. I am soooo stressing over this vacation. To the point that I am driving my husband nuts. We got into a "small" discussion last night that left me in tears (my doing, not his). I am so stressed over getting shirts done, packing everything, making sure I have enough F/E gifts made and fretting over the fact that I can't make one for everybody, etc. I have never been this stressed for a vacation before. My DH keeps reminding me that it is exactly that - a vacation. Not a time to stress, freak out, etc. I just feel like I have so many outside activities going on (also my own doing) that I can't devote the time needed to properly prepare for this trip. I was able to make one iron on tshirt last night out of the 3 I am going to make. It didn't turn out exactly as planned but will have to do. (I feel some of your pain Drea). My MIL was going to make matching shirts for us also and I bought two matching shirts for myself and DS and ordered my husband one off the internet. It was supposed to be same name brand, same color, etc. They all discovered yesterday that they are not even close in color. I have ordered blank ones again to now match DH and not sure they will arrive in time. HELP ME stop stressing.

Thanks for letting me vent for the advice that will follow.

Calm down...it will be fine...

I have something that I was going to try to make one per cabin and it just didn't work out that way. So, I'm going to bring the ones that I have made and do IOUs for the rest. I'll give out my email address and ask people to email me if they want one. I'll make it and send it to them. That helped to keep my stress level down at least a bit.

I bought a few more FE gifts today for the older boys and some iron on paper so I can make a shirt for the MNSSHP. So many things to do in just a few days...sigh...

Hi Anc,
If you dont mind me asking...what camcorder did you purchase and why? We are thinking of updating ours before the trip and I have been doing some research, but am intersted on whay you chose yours.
Thanks!

Videoman (Charlie) is the professional, and he recommended the JVC GR-D870
I bought it for $235.00 @ Circuitcity.com. I couldn't find it in any of the stores, only online and the website Charlie recommended to use is sold out.

So here's the 1,000,000 question... I know I'm not alone... be honest... I've heard other parents through the thin walls, seen it in the halls, witnessed it at dinner... how do you discipline your child at sea? Especially tantrums... and I don't mean mine when my drink is empty.

Well, for the past year we have been able to negotiate with our DS/3. "If you want to go on an airplane and the Mickey Boat, you need to be a good boy" :rolleyes1 Let's just say, by now, i'm not sure if he even really believes me that we are actually going on the "Mickey Boat" :rotfl: It still seems to work though ;) Once on board, I know that he is going to LOVE the kid's club, as he is used to being away from us with other kids (pre-school & daycare). So, if he is naughty, we will not allow him to go to the kids club for a specific amount of time and timeouts will be given in our stateroom. The same will go for DD/10, as she has been known to give the infamaous "tween eye roll" every now and then :)

Just like all the other advice....forget about it all! In 10 years, what will matter? Matching shirts? FE gifts? Or the fact that you remember a GREAT vacation? Sure, all the other stuff is fun, but it's also "gravy". Focus on the meat...packing, transportation. Then if you still have time & energy to do the other things, do it. But tell yourself it's OK to let some things go! :)

Knowing the history of power outages, my neighborhood is 90% of the time the last to regain power. So I probably have to make a call by tomorrow night as to if I should go ahead and throw away food in a PACKED upright freezer. I think I've already come to a conclusion in my mind that I have to make time to deal with that before I leave on Saturday. UGH. Again, a VERY SMALL loss compared to those recently hit with Hanna and directly hit by Ike. I just can't believe he kept that much intensity all the way up here! We get remnants of hurricanes here, but this was soooo different. Especially with no rain! Weird!

JUST 5 DAYS AWAY!!
Sorry to hear about the pain of electicity loss! I hope it's all squared away FAST!!

Yesterday Jason and I went shopping for books to read on this trip and I bought the first two novels in the Twilight series after reading about them here. HOnestly Jason and I are not big recreational readers (although I never missed a Harry Potter novel)....but I'm a huge vampire fan...so everyone on here talking about those books piqued my interest so I bought the first two in paperback to read by the pool, at the beach, on the plane, etc.
!!
OK, first the visual of you two running around in your pjs looking for cushions in the dark is just so :rotfl: Love it!

And second...my 14yo LOVES the Twilight books. She loves Edward (?). Perhaps I should borrow them...I just assumed there were teen-girl books...but it sounds like they're good for a wide range of interests...

Disney Behavioral Contract

  • I will stay within 10 feet the adults in my group. If I should wander off the requirement to hold an adults hand at all times will be put into place and last for at least 30 min. Each time I wander off the time I must be attached to an adult will be increased.
  • I will listen to the instruction from Mom, Janet and Lois and will follow them with no more than 2 requests.
  • I will set quietly during meals and eat my meal. If I fail to eat at least 50% of the meal I will not get to eat dessert. There will be no snacking in between meals so it will be important to eat when we have the chance.
  • I will get up when asked and get dressed for the day.
  • I will attempt to use the restroom anytime I am asked.
  • I will be respectful of others personal space
  • No arguing or fighting of any kind
  • I will not climb on the railing at any time.
  • I will not leave the company of the adults without getting permission first.
  • I will not run at any time
  • I will not jump in the pool
  • I will respect other by using my inside voice at all times. This means there will be no yelling or screaming, for any reason, at any time, when on the boat.

We have this contact with my 10 year old nieces and give rewards for positive behavior. We have small disk to give them when they are doing as expected and then they can trade them in for items they may want at the snack bar or gift shop. It will not stop all unruly behavior but it helps. Lois

Why is this not on Page 1 yet? :lmao: What a fantastic idea!!!!

I think there may be a few of us "adults" around here, that need some type of behavior contract too :rolleyes1

HAHA.. im so glad we all had vision of Eric and Jason running in there pj's.

That "permission" slip should be part of the Disney Contract too LOL.

Totally agree on this. I keep adding to what I'm doing, but it's only because it makes it more fun - if it gets to be too much, I stop and focus only on the things that need to be done (packing, trip planning, etc). I know that next week, my 'spare' time will be very sparse. :)

Sorry to hear about the pain of electicity loss! I hope it's all squared away FAST!!

I agree. I hope you get your power back very soon!

My 17 yo son loves that series. I have an online friend in her 50s that love it, too. :) I think it appeals to many ages. I may have to read them, too. My 12 yo ds wants to read them, but we don't have possession of them yet. May have to get those for him before the trip.

Soooooo ... my countdown hits 10 tomorrow!!!!! It's getting so, so close, and I am just so excited.

So here's the 1,000,000 question... I know I'm not alone... be honest... I've heard other parents through the thin walls, seen it in the halls, witnessed it at dinner... how do you discipline your child at sea? Especially tantrums... and I don't mean mine when my drink is empty.

Seeing how some of us stress over the trip (getting it all ready, getting it all right) I think it is good to remember that sometimes the kids are overwhelmed by it all too. There are so many cool, interesting, wonderful things to do that I've found my kids distressed by all of the options. The want to go swimming, go to the kid's club, go to the family activity and help me play Bingo all at the same time! I found it helps to go through the Navigators the night before and figure out the must-do things, fit the swimming in there and all the things the adults want to do.

I always have to keep reminding them that it is everyone's vacation and we have to pick our favorite things to do and we definitely will not get to everything. That is what the next trip is for!;)

I think there may be a few of us "adults" around here, that need some type of behavior contract too :rolleyes1

Anyone who would like to adapt this contact for adults please feel free to do so. I want to know who is going to measure success and hand out the rewards!!!!:lmao: Lois

goofy2luv - Please do not stress over thhis vacation.....I am guily of this too. In fact, the girls I work with think that this vacation is the reason for my "mystery illnesses." I think I just need a good vacation! We all just want it to be perfect, but we all know that perfect is not always the best if we stress out to get there, then we set our expectations too hught...yada, yada, yada. So I have made a pount not to stress, do a little at a time........and keep thinking that in 12 days my hardest decision will be what to drink!

Kimberly - So sorry you are without power! I hope it comes back soon !

TVEFOX - I am worried about my kids behavior too - especially my DS3. He is really a character but he is very good about wandering off and no one is a stranger to him. He would leave with anyone! Unfortunately, he is too little to reason with! I think the only thing that will work with him is having to go back to the room and miss the fun. The bad part is that I will have to miss the fun too!

Lois - I think some of the spouses may need some rules laid down too!

Arin - Did you buy an extra battery for the camcorder? I ordered one yesterday from B&H after I "won" a bid on a JVC battery charger for $45 instead of the $69.95 plus shipping at B&H (thanks Charlie)! If you need one I think there was one left. It was make an offer or buy for $49.99. I made the offer of $45 and won. There is one left!

Can't wait to meet you all!
