"Double Dip Delight" 09.27.2008 - Chapter 4!

Ok everyone, I know I had to get a pep talk a while back but I need another one. I am soooo stressing over this vacation. To the point that I am driving my husband nuts. We got into a "small" discussion last night that left me in tears (my doing, not his). I am so stressed over getting shirts done, packing everything, making sure I have enough F/E gifts made and fretting over the fact that I can't make one for everybody, etc. I have never been this stressed for a vacation before. My DH keeps reminding me that it is exactly that - a vacation. Not a time to stress, freak out, etc. I just feel like I have so many outside activities going on (also my own doing) that I can't devote the time needed to properly prepare for this trip. I was able to make one iron on tshirt last night out of the 3 I am going to make. It didn't turn out exactly as planned but will have to do. (I feel some of your pain Drea). My MIL was going to make matching shirts for us also and I bought two matching shirts for myself and DS and ordered my husband one off the internet. It was supposed to be same name brand, same color, etc. They all discovered yesterday that they are not even close in color. I have ordered blank ones again to now match DH and not sure they will arrive in time. HELP ME stop stressing.

Thanks for letting me vent for the advice that will follow.

Calm down, relax, breathe!!!!

This is a VACATION and you need to relax...

If you don't have the same matching shirts.. so what..
Don't have all the F/Es done... so what..
Packing.. well that you do need to do, or I can lend you some of my clothes, since I always overpack ;)

Don't Sweat the Small Stuff :flower3:

Knowing the history of power outages, my neighborhood is 90% of the time the last to regain power. So I probably have to make a call by tomorrow night as to if I should go ahead and throw away food in a PACKED upright freezer.

If your freezer is Packed, you're actually better off. The food will keep itself from thawing as fast. Just don't open it and chances are you'll be fine for a little while. Of course, if things have thawed when you finally open it, best to toss than get sick.

Hi Anc,
If you dont mind me asking...what camcorder did you purchase and why? We are thinking of updating ours before the trip and I have been doing some research, but am intersted on whay you chose yours.
Thanks!

Does anyone know what the charge fee is for bringing a Camcorder on some of the excursions? :confused3 It says there is a fee but doesn't say how much the fee is..

HAHA, we must be twins seperated LOL. Im the same way went to bed last night telling E I was stressing and he said Im not LOL. MEN... make a list of what NEEDS to be done and go in that order (really need to take some of my own advise. LOL) if it gets done GREAT if not.. theres always next cruise :rotfl: just think in 12 days it wont matter after a few DOTD's LOL

Well....he did. He hiked right up to Ohio.

First of all, I MUST state that I do have it in perspective that so many homes have been lost, flooded, or damaged, not to mention the fatalities this summer. That being said, the 75 MPH winds we had yesterday have caused many inconveniences here.

On a happier note, I'm shipping boxes to Floriday today!!! I also have 85% of my packing done!!

JUST 5 DAYS AWAY!!

oh man that sucks Kimberly.. now I kind of feel bad for rubbing in the Trojans winning... umm ya feeling passed LOL hope you get some electricty SOON. and woohoo on only 5 more days awesome! Im so excited for everyone that gets to start their vacation soon!

I really need to remember this all LOL

I do not know when we are able to go back home...my daughter has to miss at least one or two weeks of school. therefore, we really will not be able to go on this trip because that will mean she has to miss additional time from school. I hoping we can go home soon though. My brother and his wife are nice and all...but there is nothing like good ole home sweet home...:sad1:

oh dear..I feel you pain. I hope that everything comes back up soon. We got power back more quickly than originally thought after Gustav. HOpefully the same thing will happen for you. If you need anything please let me know. I'm in LA but I have family in Dallas.

I have enjoyed reading through all of your posts and am very impressed with all the detail you have given toward your trip. We recently (last week)....yes three weeks to prepare...... booked our trip. We live in Orlando and go to PC often....we are excited to be on the Disney ship instead of waving good buy to it. I found alot of great information and would like more info on things you are going to 'get signed'. I have three kiddies, DD turning six on our return date, DS 3, DS almost 2. I would like to surprise them with somthing signed but hoped some of you had other ideas besides pillowcases. Thanks for sharing!

I put together a scrapbook for DS 4...like many others, one page is for the character signature and the facing page is for a photo of DS with said character. He's going to take it to school when we get pack for show and tell (something the teacher suggested to help get him back in the swing of things).

Those of you doing Secret Mickey: Are you planning on just putting the gifts into the Fish Extender or having somone actually put them in the stateroom?

umm mine is to big for the FE...so I'm going to ask for it to be placed in the state room.

Oh honey...ok. Do you REALLY need matching shirts then go to the disney store and purchase them (that's what I did). Don't worry about FE gifts if you don't have time just do what you can. Break down what you need to do into managable segments and work on those segments (you'll be surprised at how much faster things go when you do this). For instance say: Monday all I"m going to do is complete 20 FE gifts totally. Before you know it you've gotten 30 done because there isn't so much presure to do them all at once.

finally if there is anything I can do to help just let me know.

Lois.. and um.. I cant think off the top of my head whom else is doing the Oct 4th cruise after ours..... but

If any of you want beach toys or water toys, I would love to pay it forward. We wont be taking them and most likely leaving them on Castaway Cay. Unless I can find someone to pass them on to. I would love to ( I need all the good karma I can get LOL) There will be a bucket and some other shape sand toys, 2 rafts, a beach ball, and a frisbee.

Let me know and we can coordinate a time to meet after our last day on CC. :) hope I can help someone out. Or if not you... maybe someone on your meets thread may want them and you too can help pay it forward thus earning valuble karma points LOL:rotfl:

Okay as always, you guys have perked me up.

I apologize and as soon as I hit submit I thought, man I shouldn't have said any of that stuff. There are people dealing with hurricane problems, health problems and other BIG things. I shouldn't have complained at all. I just let myself get a little overwhelmed and am really feeling the pressure. I have overscheduled my week this week and we leave next Wed. the 24th and I have made plans all the way through the weekend. I need to worry about more important things than f/e and perhaps start packing. :rotfl:

My DS (4) and I do pray a lot and have included all the people affected by the hurricane. We are focusing on being grateful for what we have and less complaining about other things. I didn't do too great of a job on that this morning on these boards.

Thanks again for all the kind words and I hope I have not offended anyone by complaining when there are much bigger issues in the world than my f/e, etc.

Can't wait to meet all you terrific people on board in just 13 days.

To Alcohol!!! :drinking1

The Cause of... :headache:

Solution to... :cool2: :teacher:

All of life's little problems. :grouphug:

Hey... I did the SAME thing a few days ago. Some times you just need to dump everything to someone, ANYONE to feel better.

Relax, then sit down with a glass of wine and figure out the priority of all these tasks. Which ones MUST be done? Which ones can be forgotten? I'm just like you, I take on too much and then freak out about it. :)

Trust me, no one here is gonna crucify you for not getting all your FE gifts done.

Swell my countdown at this moment says I'm boarding an airplane for WDW in: 3 days, 18 hours, and 24 minutes. :cool1: :cool1:

Kimberly----We, too, had some crazy weather here. It was hotter than heck and humid all weekend and then yesterday in the late afternoon it started to cool off a lot and the wind picked up. By 8 or 9pm we had severe thunderstorm warnings and by midnight the wind was CRAZY outside.....I joked and said it was the remnants of Hurricane Ike...but maybe it really was. It was so windy it was blowing stuff everywhere and Jason happened to notice that all the cushions on our deck furniture were gone and we ended up outside in our PJ's in the middle of the night hunting the streets and driveway around our complex to find all our pillows and bring them inside!! The wind kept us up at night and this morning there were lots of downed trees and lots of power outages and traffic signals not working, etc. So it was definitely a windy, windy night!

Yesterday Jason and I went shopping for books to read on this trip and I bought the first two novels in the Twilight series after reading about them here. HOnestly Jason and I are not big recreational readers (although I never missed a Harry Potter novel)....but I'm a huge vampire fan...so everyone on here talking about those books piqued my interest so I bought the first two in paperback to read by the pool, at the beach, on the plane, etc.

Beyond that...Jason and I are 2/3 of the way done packing. Garment bag is packed (our tuxes and all our dressier dinner clothes plus our tropical mickey shirts, ties, etc.). Toiletries are all packed except for our toothbrush and my contact lenses! Halloween costumes packed. Pirate costumes packed. Beach clothes all packed. and most the clothes we intend to wear are packed.....we just have to do laundry on Thursday to wash what we've worn this past week, pack a few more things and we're ready to go!!

I will be happy to take any beach toys you want to pass on and make sure they get a good home. I have some of my own I plan to pass along. Anyone can just bring them to my stateroom that last night and I will store them. I will have a week to find kids to use them. Don't think it will be too hard.

Kimberly I believe the charge for a Camcorder was 5 dollars at Tulum. Hope this helps.

TVEPFOX: Thanks for the update, will you be able to let us know about whats in the ocean even while you are in Disney the week before the cruise

Thanks to the magic of my two Blackberrys I will be updating the tropics until we're on the ship. I might even have time to post a few of my WDW highlights. Once we get on the ship the old BB's might not work. However I will monitor the charts posted outside guest services everyday and/or speak to my BFF Captain Tom.

As everyone else has said, just BREATHE!!!!!! Seriously, none of us really care if you have on matching shirts or if you don't have enough FE's (I think there's plenty to go around). So remember, no more stressing :goodvibes

Well....he did. He hiked right up to Ohio.

First of all, I MUST state that I do have it in perspective that so many homes have been lost, flooded, or damaged, not to mention the fatalities this summer. That being said, the 75 MPH winds we had yesterday have caused many inconveniences here.

It was kinda strange as these south winds came through yesterday afternoon. It was partly cloudy, but for the most part pretty sunny out. The temperature was up to 90 degrees, and I don't know what the official humidity level was, but it was thick! I was finishing up laundry and doing some serious packing for vacation as we were having brown-outs. Well that changed, and now I've been without power for 19 hours. Nearly 60% of the customers in our county alone are without power, not to mention surrounding counties. The ETA for everyone in my county to have power restored goes out to 7 days. SEVEN days. American Electric Power has a press release out stating that much of the reason for the long period of time for restoration is that they have a lot of their crew down in Texas helping them. So they're sending those guys back up home to help.

The impact of 75 MPH winds doesn't hold a candle to hurricane force winds, but it has done its toll. I've heard 3 people died from trees falling down. I was shocked that our work building had power today (and frankly disappointed!). This area has power issues quite frequently. I understand that many of the businesses around us still have no power, however. As I passed places like McDonalds & Tim Hortons on my drive to work this morning, those that were open had LONG LINES in their drive-thrus. Some grocery stores are still closed. There are trees or large branches down everywhere and neighborhoods have lawn furniture scattered all around.

Knowing the history of power outages, my neighborhood is 90% of the time the last to regain power. So I probably have to make a call by tomorrow night as to if I should go ahead and throw away food in a PACKED upright freezer. I think I've already come to a conclusion in my mind that I have to make time to deal with that before I leave on Saturday. UGH. Again, a VERY SMALL loss compared to those recently hit with Hanna and directly hit by Ike. I just can't believe he kept that much intensity all the way up here! We get remnants of hurricanes here, but this was soooo different. Especially with no rain! Weird!

My best friend is in town for a convention, so I think I'm heading to her hotel tonight so I can wash and dry my hair. Thankfully my hot water heater uses gas. I'm not sure if I'll be able to keep up with the board this week, but I'll try. I have yet to read anything posted since yesterday early afternoon, so my apologies if I've missed something important to respond to.

On a happier note, I'm shipping boxes to Floriday today!!! I also have 85% of my packing done!!

JUST 5 DAYS AWAY!!

If I'm not mistaken, I believe Ike hooked up with a front (it has some kind of technical weather name) which pulled him up quickly to your area and combined together to really soak you!!!! So sorry to hear about the issues you've been having but glad to know you apparently did not sustain any flooding (I was thinking about you earlier when they talked about all of the flooding being caused by Ike as it came north).

My wife is a huge vampire fan and has read all 4 of the Twilight series in record time...she plans on reading them again and can't wait until November with the movie comes out....Did you hear about the one book that she was in the middle of and someone posted it on the internet...My wife found it and read that one also...I believe its something likme 250 pages...If you want the link to it just FM me....My 14 daughter is on book 3....

And then there was one! Go away, go far, far away! Honestly, I had to go down several pages on the National Hurricane Center to find this unorganized mass! Looking good sailors! Keep those fingers and toes crossed. We're almost home free!

Here's the official word...
1. DISORGANIZED SHOWER ACTIVITY LOCATED A FEW HUNDRED MILES EAST OF
THE NORTHERN LEEWARD ISLANDS IS ASSOCIATED WITH A WESTWARD-MOVING
TROPICAL WAVE. UPPER-LEVEL WINDS ARE UNFAVORABLE FOR
DEVELOPMENT...AND TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION IS NOT EXPECTED HERE
OR ELSEWHERE DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS.

That's two more days of good luck... 48 hours. Hopefully this thing will be long GONE by then!

how do you guys keep track of all this? since yesterday..at least 3 pages. wonder women i guess:cheer2: :worship: :worship:

i start getting confused just thinking about packing for 4, getting the animals taken care of and getting to the airport on time.:rotfl2:

Okay - are they really that good??? I'm not necessarily a vampire fan but I wasn't a wizard fan either until I finally gave in and read Harry Potter (I think it was just after book 2 came out). Wanted to see what all the fuss was about and got hooked.
