There are docks for ships in GC, our ship was not lucky enough to be one of those ships. ( We were on Princess). The 2 docked were Carnival.

Tendering didnt not take that long at all. It was maybe a ten minutes if that.

The rum store is right by the docks and a large shopping area. The rum store did get crowded as time got closer to leaving.

Happy Fathers Day.

HAPPY FATHERS DAY TO ALL OF YOU

Question about life jackets.... we are planning on doing the Pirate encounter in GC. J isnt a great swimmer he clings to the sides of the pool. (hoping with it being summer now he will have more pool time at greatgrandma's and get better, P too but he's not as bad.) Anyhow, can we take our life jackets off the ship to use in port? I really dont want to have to buy one just for this cruise and pack it. Or if anyone has done this previously do they have life jackets to use?

Next- Digi camera's..... I want a new one.. I need a new one. GOT to have a new one LOL. Ive been looking for well yrs now and just havent bit the bullet. I have a kodak and it was a great learning digi camera... I will pass it on to my mom but I need a new one. My kodak is somewhat bulky you would think its a slr but its not. Point and shoot. I would love to get the Rebel... but just cant justify that type of large drop of cash right now. OK I can.... E cant LOL! So I come to you my fellow cruisers whom I have grown to love and trust  Send me your thoughts on digi camera's, what you have and what you like about it or dis like for that matter. Also looking at getting a video camera also, our old one busted a few yrs ago and just havent replaced it. (can you tell who the procrastinating family will be on this cruise LOL)

Drea...
As far as I know...the life jackets must say in your room at all times....
I have done this before and the only reason you would need a life jacket is if you planned on walking the plank and jumping into the water. :yay:

~~ HAPPY FATHER'S DAY! ~~
Does anyone know if they really work? I would hate to damage my camera. I had my digital camera stolen on my Oct. cruise and had to buy a new one.

Like you, I wondered myself. I don't want my camera or memory card to be ruined! So of course I did some research, and I feel it's reliable. Of course I'll try it out before our trip so I get used to zooming and to test the seal before our trip.

In one of these reviews, someone also suggested putting a silica bag inside to help keep out moisture (like I'm thinking moisure from humidity or if you might have had wet hands when you put the camera in the bag). The key seems to be to make sure the model you select is an appropriate size for your camera. I read a few people who didn't like it state that the bag was too large....well that's most likely correctable with a return for the right DiCAPac model.

The character breakfasts depend on your dining rotation. We had AP first last year and I think our character breakfast was Sun or Mon. I thought I read somewhere the breakfasts were MWF, again depending our your rotation.

I did read that the characters are back to greeting tables. :cool1:

Last year when we went they only danced in the middle of PC and there were no real pics or autographs.

.

I read (in the Passporter, I think) that the character breakfasts are held the sea day morning after your first visit to Animators Palate. So that would be Sun, Mon, and Thurs. And since the Western only has two sea days...on the *normal* Western's they run a CB on Key West day. Now, for us, as you all know that is a Castaway Cay day so if you do NOT want CB on the first CC day, you might want to call DCL and request one of the rotations that does not start with A. ESp. if you have late seating and want to get to the beach early.

Also, you go based on your dinner seating time. Early...is well, early. There will be tickets in your stateroom to notify you of your date/time. I also read on the main board that the Island Jam is out and traditional visit-your-table CB is back. I think it is still hed in Parrot Cay, though.

HTH... and Cyndi, my bag of preference is the Overland Donner The front pocket is great to keep you organized...the main compartment is big enough to hold a Passporter (even Deluxe!), and the adjustable strap can enable it to wear across your body at a comfortable height (i.e. no thigh slappin'). They are a little pricey but if you search around sometimes you can find discontinued patterns for less).

HTH!:thumbsup2

Jason and I had the same question. We just recently bought a nice new very compact digital camera and I'd love to be able to use it underwater (we always buy one of those disposable underwater cameras but they take really crappy pics usually)...HOWEVER....if it got ruined I'd cry like a baby.

We shelled out the big bucks for a custom case for our old camera and loved it - it has buttons over the regular camera buttons which made it very easy to use. I've never tried one of the bags, but I'm sure they work or people wouldnt buy them all the time right?
We tested our case by putting tissues in it and submerging it.

We are probably buying a new case for our new camera, since we had such a good experience with the last one. But we'll get it on ebay :thumbsup2

I got the Canon PowerShotPro S5IS for Christmas this past year and I just love it:lovestruc I have two other digital cameras that will probably come as well a compact Sony one and a mid-size Olympus one.

Also a good site for research is Steve's Digicams

I use a Baggallini messenger bag when I go to the parks, and I used it on last year's 3 day cruise. It works pretty well and holds the "normal" type stuff like wallets, cameras, an extra shirt, a few souviniers, etc....but it isn't HUGE.

I have this bag and I love it! It actually holds a lot more than it looks like it would.

I have a Canon Elph and I think it is great.

Okay, it's almost time to start making reservations, and my husband and I haven't decided if we should do a spa villa for 2 or just do a massage on the boat and then one at Castway Cay. Any suggestions. I like the idea of having 2 massages, but the spa villa sounds really nice.

I second the Canon Elph. I have purchased Elphs for my last 3 cameras (one got dropped, one got upgraded for the latest model). I have the PowershotSD 850 Elph.

I love the small size, quick flash reset, battery life, fabulous zoom, image stabilizer.

The only thing I had to get accustomed to was the rectangle-box shape. I always wear the wrist strap because it's ever so slightly slippery in my hands. But that wouldn't deter me from purchasing it again, because I LOVE it.

If you enjoy macro photography, it also has a kick butt macro function. I've also used the video function often and it takes good videos.

Hope that helps a little!

We're booked now for a couples massage in the cabanas. We'd like to do the spa villas, but they are just too $$$ right now.

I don't know if anyone else has responded....but the spa villas are wonderful! Jason and I are doing cabana massages on Castaway Cay on one of the days there and spa villa on one of the sea days. We did it on the TransAtlantic and it was a great experience. It's not cheap...but we thought the experience was so nice we're definitely going to do it again! (Thanks to the points we've racked up on our Disney Visa Card! :rotfl2: )

[I think we are booking the Buccaneer Stingray City Catamaran Excursion tomorrow. I am NOT swimming with the rays, but everyone else will be and I will just enjoy watching their happiness.::yes::

That's funny you mentioned not wanting to swim with the rays......Denise and I feel the same way......we are looking for other options for GC. Looks like it may be the Pirate Encounter and the Turtle Farm if there is time.

Drea - I have a Canon Powershot Elph SD1000 and I LOVE it. It is a nice point and click and it was only around $150 on sale. There are a few nice models under $175. I usually do a search on shopzilla.com to see who has the best prices before I buy.

I second the Canon Power Shot...My mom has the S5....which I agree is very nice. I have the S3, and that is pretty darn good too. They are SLR, just a step below the Rebel (but about $200 cheaper). I am just a point-and-shoot photographer ;) and we've gotten some really nice shots with it. :thumbsup2

Aaannnnnd, we hopefully just booked Stingray city through Moby Dick tours. We sent in our info & request...basically b/c of Flounder's Reef Hours we can't make any of the 9 AM tours....so we asked them if they could make their early tour 10 am (mighty presumptive of us, eh?)...or to ask if they have availability for an afternoon tour. I'm fairly optimistic they will have a slot for us that will work.

We're still undecided about Cozumel....you'd think we would have had that all planned out by now...:confused3

Has anyone ever used Disney to coordinate a vow renewal?

Our 10th anniversary is in 3 years (obviously, if today is our 7th~) and we want to bring all our extended family onboard a Disney cruise & renew vows at Castaway Cay.

It seems like SUCH a daunting task, but I know people do it all the time so it must be fairly common.

I'm curious..
Is it better to go through a TA for this sort of event planning, or can I do it myself through Disney?

Do they give you any discounts if you're paying for 10 cabins' worth of cruisers?:scared1: ?

There are so many experienced Disney cruisers here that I thought perhaps someone would know...

Thanks in advance for you advice :hippie:

We did a Vow Renewal for our 25th Anniversary on the Magic last year, during the Trans Atlantic - Westbound. Everything was co-ordinated through Disney Weddings. Some of the options available to us were a little different to the usual sailings as the ship was leaving from a foreign port. Having said that - they were great and even went as far as organizing a special request fruit cake for us (traditional cake for us as we are South African/British) instead of the usual sponge cake. On board we had a Wedding/Vow Renewal coordinator who assisted with all the on board final arrangements including hair appointments etc.
