I won't be going on the cruise this year, our son will be returning from Baghdad sometimes between the end of September and the middle of October. We will be there for when he returns , so at least he'll know he was parents that care.:grouphug:

Sorry to hear that you won't be joining us on the cruise, but it is certainly more important to welcome your son home from Baghdad. :lovestruc Maybe we will cruise together some other time.:goodvibes

Hey all you (more) seasoned cruisers...I have a question for you.

What is the deal with "rebooking" aboard? Is it true that I can put a deposit down on a room now to secure a cabin aboard the ship and then when I'm aboard later this fall I can "rebook" (basically cancel the room and immediately rebook it) so that I can have the same sail dates and cabin but get the price discount and stateroom credit offered when you book onboard?

Can you do the same thing if a room is booked wiht points?

In May 2009 we're taking my parents on their first cruise.....and we'd like to get the adjoining Cat 7's on the Wonder for a 4-night....get one room for us with points and one for them with cash through our travel agent.....but we're afraid if we wait until we're aboard the Magic in Sept./Oct then we'll lose the rooms (which are available now).

Thanks for any input!!

Thanks Buckeye Gal for the shamrock. I really could use the luck. I will be sure to pass it on to a few.

Today started out OK then went south when I went to leave the office. I could not find my keys. :scared1: Janet of couse didn't have her key to my car or so we thought. Left the office to go home a get the key. Found what we thought was the key and returned to the office. Could not find the key. Called home, it is sitting on the kichen counter. Had my son drive it down to the office. Try it in the car and it is not the right key. Then we discover it is the spare key to my son's jeep. So Janet on a whim checks the jacket in her trunk and there is the key for my car. We had it all along. We move my car out of the fire lane and left together in one car to have keys made. So far the house key works but the key to Janet's car will open the door but will not start the car. I hope my key will work better. Won't know till tomorrow when I go back to the office. Tomorrow has got to be better. Lois

I am not sure of the answer, but my advice would be for you to put a deposit down on the two rooms (which is totally refundable if you change your mind). Then when you are onboard, check with the DCL desk. It is possible that the pricing may have changed so much for those two rooms that it doesn't make sense to rebook online (for the 10% credit). I would hope that you would still be eligible for the onboard credit since you are making an attempt to rebook online.

:thumbsup2 Don't know about the points but it works just like you said.
You don't cancel nothing, just tell the booking person you want to rebook on board (do it soonest) because if the price went up since you booked it, you will only get the 10% discount on the new price not the one you originally booked for...You still get $200 on board credit if it is a cat 1 thru 7... $100 for cat 8 thru 12...
Another tip, I usually do this and then transfer my reservation to AAA as I get another $150 on board credit plus a free bottle of wine from them..
So I get 10% discount, $200 OBC from Disney and $150 OBC from AAA, not a bad bit of savings....but that is for a 7 night cruise.
For the 4 night cruise the cat 7 only gets you a $100 OBC.
Also to save some up front money, I usually prebook as one person as I only need to give them $250 down vice the $500 (I don't like other people playing with my money) and when I only need to give them the other $250 when I rebook on board. I hope this helps.

GG will you be surprizing him when he returns. I would love to see pics.. Im a sap when it comes to homecomings!

And your so good being there for him. Not many parents can go or do for that matter. I remember the 1st OIF tour I was an official hugger, with a few friends we went around hugging all the guys and gals that didnt have anyone there (we even had signs Ill have to search for the pics LOL) The next tour I passed out beers... I got a much better response from Marines LMAO. :rotfl2:

E is due home right before the cruise, I told him if they extend him while he is in Iraq, the boys and I would send him a post card LMAO ... JK... maybe :rotfl:

John:hug: We'll miss meeting you. Please tell your son thank you from us when you have him back safely. I do think that sounds like a better time than the cruise:)

Erik: My understandind about the rebooking is the same as what John posted (we have not done it, but have asekd hte agent onboard about it). Once on board you would get 10% off the CURRENT at that time price of the cruise (plus the OBC), which might be much more than 10% higher than it is now. So, book now and then check on the price onboard to see what is better (and if it is better then, yes they said they could rebook you into the same rooms). Ooooh, and how exciting that you are getting your parents onto a cruise. Good for you!

We've been busy, and not posting much as of late. We went to see a fabulous FABULOUS production of 12 Angry Men tonight (our friend was juror #5). Such a good evening. Tomorrow we are all audtioning for Peter Pan. Rio is especailly hoping for a good role--should anywone want to send some (very appropriate) pixie dust our way that would be very nice:upsidedow

John - so glad you will be there for your son - thank him from us! :thumbsup2

Drea - Official Hugger....sounds like too much fun ..hmmm...hugs and beer - who's the most popular gal on base??? :rolleyes1 :rotfl2:

We stayed at the Wailea Marriott. Hubby has mega-points at Marriott chains from travelling for years & years. They even upgraded our garden-view reservation to an ocean front suite...LOVED that!

The hotel itself was very nice. There wasn't a beach on property, but it was a short 5 minute walk (at most) to perfect beaches on either side of the hotel with a path that connected everything. The pools were so-so. Definitely not Marriott resort pool standard if you ask me. But DS had fun in the kid pool which was the only pool we visited.

We flew American Airlines (where DH also has mega status from all his work travels!). The first class seats lay almost flat. It seemed like a novel idea, but DH and I could never get comfortable. They were at just enough of an angle that DS kept sliding down & getting frustrated and crying. So I ended up putting the seat back to sitting/recline instead of lay-flat and he slept much better that way.

If you'd like to see a vacation movie that shows the beaches & hotel room (just a bit) visit our blog post with the movie:

At the beginning, you can see DS laying down in the plane seat..

Heather, Love the movie that is so cool!! What a cute little boy you have too!! That hotels sounds nice. We are looking into the Mahana @ Kaanapali Hotel. The reviews are good and they have a kitchen which is nice.

Heather, I finally watched your movie - very cool! :cool1: Looks like you had a great time - I really want to do Hawaii some time - I told DH that a Hawaii DVC would be wonderful, not sure he's on board yet.

pixiedust: for Rio! Keep us posted, Hadley!

If there's anyone else needing a little good luck, please grab a shamrock for your siggy!! :shamrock:

Speaking of siggies....Check out my ticker!! :donald: I cannot believe that I started with a 16 month ticker and it's actually down to 6 now!!! :woohoo: UNbelievable! Everyone will be at this mark in the coming week!!!

BTW, has anyone noticed that the smilies on the create/reply page have been shakened up? I thought I was loosing my mind at this late hour because I couldn't see the "Woo Hoo" smiley.

For all the Big Brother watchers out there without BB Afterdark, I would think that Sunday's episode on CBS will fill you in on the two houseguests who ended up at the hospital on Friday for completely unrelated reasons and at the very same time. Crazy timing!

Okay...off to bed and up in a few hours to drive to Grandmother's house!!! I am SO excited about telling her she's going on a cruise!! :cool1: I've been putting together a lot of literature to give her including my old Passporter and DCL planning DVD (although her own DVD should be in the mail soon).

I'm looking forward to the new Passporter's DCL Field Guide that should be mailed in a few weeks (assuming you ordered directly from Passporter.com)!! :cool1:

Have a good one!

gg,
Sorry you won't be sailing with us, I was really looking forward to meeting you. To bad you can't arrange something to have your son land in Castaway Cay:rotfl:
Thanks for all you done for me(magnets) hope to meet you on a future cruise.

:confused3
Several of you have very kindly sent me Shamrocks for my signature. They are cute, and I would love to add it (and we could use the luck today:rolleyes: ). I cannot figure out how to add the darn thing. Can someone please post or PM me instructions. Just cutting and pasting did not work and I am not very good at this stuff (obviously). THANKS.

KIMBERLY: I am so excited to read your post tonight about telling your grandmother. What fun!
