For anyone staying at the MCO Hyatt the night before the cruise, you may want to check out this thread.

http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1731778

It details how you can prepurchase a certificate for a one-night's stay for $135.00 plus $6.00 shipping (total of $141.00) which is good for one night at the MCO Hyatt, taxes included.

Read through the thread if you are interested because it does recommend making a reservation first and double check on blackout dates.

Just thought this was interesting.

Or if you are in the military or work for the Gov. the rate they have now is $121. That's what Drea told me ;) I am going to check into it. Coming from Ca, I think that would be nice to just walk to the room.

Hey everyone. I've been watching the forum for the last 11 months. We booked our cruise in April, 07 and I finally decided to join in. Four of us will be traveling. Me, dh, ds -9 and dd-5. :thumbsup2

:welcome: Aboard

Buckeye Gal - What did your Grandmother say when she found out she's going on the cruise??!!! I'm sure she's really excited!!!

:)

Wow you guys were busy on these boards today!

Several of you have been traveling, I see. Hope you've all had a great time! Erica, I'm looking forward to seeing the snow bunnies! I do hope you heal quickly!

Erik, I'm thrilled you got the rooms booked! I'm a sucker for sentimental things, and reading your parents' courtship story and how you're going to bring back those memories for them gave me a warm fuzzy! :grouphug: They're fortunate to have both you AND Jason!

Lisa (scoutsmom99), sorry your grandma doesn't "do boats". Oh I'm excited that you're also considering POP!! I would love to meet up with you, too!

Hadley, any audition details to share? Was Rio happy with his performance? Did he have a good time? When will the cast be revealed?

Tonya (googles111), I just watched tonight's BB9 show. Man I thought for sure they would fit the hospital news in tonight. Sorry!!! Like I said before....it's a guilty pleasure. I'm almost ashamed that I DVR all the BB Afterdark shows and see almost all of it every night! So know you are not alone!!

Born2Cruz, I'm glad you came out of "hiding"!! I see this is even your first post on the DISboards! Welcome!!!!! Since you've been lurking, I probably don't need to direct you to Post #6 on this thread, but just in case you need to get the Reader's Digest version of some good things going on, make sure you check it out. Especially ensure you look at the lanyard info so you don't miss out on that! BTW, you're the first family from New Mexico!! Your son will find six other 9-yr old pirates, and your princess will also be among six her age (5yo) from the DISboards! I hope to see you chatting with us more!

My two cents on booking with a TA over Disney Directly

I found booking with a TA a better experience and it is same intitial price.
I actually did the re-booking on board for 10% off the commissionable price of the cruise and the $200 on board credit. I did keep the reservation linked to my TA though.

My TA company gives ~5% back to me after sailing. So I find it a to be a better deal than to dgo directly. Also I have a rapport with my TA for my WDW DCL and DL trips. In the end the price is the same or less than going with Disney direct in my experience. They also do a lot of the legwork especially for WDW when the better deals come out. They are on the phone at 7am EST adjusting my reservation.

Has worked out great for me.

Thanks everyone for sharing in the excitement and anticipation with me!!

We girls all went out lunch this afternoon. I was hiding a 3-ring binder under my coat as we walked in the restaurant as that was part of the reveal plan. I had shown mom the binder when I got to her house, and she immediately read the cover that says "Our Three Generation Disney Double Dip Cruise". Her response was "Do you think she'll understand what the "Three Generation" comment really means, or do you think we'll need to explain why it says that?" Well of course I did...how could she not understand?? :confused3

After a short wait, we got seated. My plan was to just burst at the seams with the surprise as soon as we got our order taken. This way she could quickly look through it and then we could talk about it during our meal. However, the salads came so quickly that I didn't have time to change the topic of conversation before we were eating lettuce and rolls. I was just dying of excitement wanting to tell her (and so was Mom).

After we finished eating, Mom quickly stacked up all our plates so there would be room at the table. Not long thereafter, the waitress came over seeing all of our plates stacked up and cleared our table. The waitress (probably thinking we were in a hurry since we stacked our own plates when she didn't even have time to take them away) apologized that she hadn't given us our check yet. Mom said "Oh no. That's fine. We're in no hurry."

"Yea, we're just having a nice time visiting", Grandmother added. "We are three generations" as she pointed at each of us to the waitress.

Well the three generation comment made me almost burst in laughter! Grandma noticed that Mom and I had been exchanging "funny" looks to one another with smiles on our faces. So after the waitress left, she said "What's going on? You both look like you're up to something." You just can't get a mother of 6, grandmother of 11, and great-grandmother of 10 to not know "the look of trouble"! :rotfl2:

My response was "Ohhhh...nothing, Grandma. Nothing's going on." Now wasn't that the response of guilt?! :guilty: So we continued our topic of conversation prior to the dish removal.

Silence came over the table. Mom looked at me. This was it.

"Well, Grandma, there actually is a reason why I wanted us to get together today. I have something to share with you."

"Oh? You dooooo???" Oh my...now I'm thinking she thinks I'm going to tell her I'm getting married or something else life altering! :rotfl:

"Yep!" I replied as I reached down to get the binder and sat it up on the table. I had covered the front up with thick paper that she was going to have to slide out of the front cover's sleeve. "I want you to remove this paper out of the sleeve."

I see this big smile on her face. She's getting a surprise!! Grandmother is getting a surprise!!! She pulls the paper out to reveal the binder's DDD logo cover. She reads it and gives this jolt of a giggle as she bit down on her smiling lip. I didn't even give her a chance to say anything as I said "It would be a gift from you to me for you to come with us on the cruise. It would make me so happy for the three of us to go on this cruise together that I cannot even find words to express my excitement. So you ARE going with us..."

"Oh Kimberly! You don't..."

"Wait. Wait." I said. "I want you to go with us, and all your expenses will be paid for. You don't have to do anything..."

She interrupts with "Oh my! All that money....."

"EXCEPT..." as I held her arm. "Except one thing. You have to make all three of us pirate costumes for the Pirates in the Caribbean Party. That's what I need you to do!"

She was just smiling ear to ear! I cannot remember the last time I saw her so excited! Her response was a humble "Okay. Well you show me what pattern you want, and I can do that." Then she added "Well that explains what I got in the mail this week." My stomach sank! I had ordered her the DCL planning DVD....it got to her in less than 2 weeks!! She said for the briefest moment, she thought "Why am I getting this in the mail when I know Linda and Kimberly are going? Hmmm...." She said she opened up the packet, read the form letter, and quickly brushed it off as random junk mail. She thought it was more vacation solitation because she had also received mail from Southwest the week before asking her to become a frequent flyer member starting with her miles to/from Florida back in January.

She asked my mom if any of her siblings know about this. She told her no, and that we've kept it a secret up to this point to where only Mom, her DH, and I know. Then of course I added "Oh there are some others, too. You know I've told you about the message board forum I get on with all my DISer friends? Well they all know you're coming too, and they know that today is FINALLY the reveal! Many of them are looking forward to hearing our story from today." She rolled her eyes and said "Oh dear", followed by another burst of giggles. "So they all know about you, too!"

I heard her say only one more time under her breath "Oh but the money!" At one point she said she'll pay for her incidentals, to which she was quickly shot down, of course. So we may have a disagreement over that later, but *I* know how to ensure her KTTWC is linked to MY Visa! If she still gets on that ship thinking she's paying for her excursions and such, I will have trumped her. :thumbsup2 She'll have no idea it's all taken care of until it's too late. Other than that, she thankfully didn't give me a hard time about it. She was very gracious, thankful, and actually very excited. She just kept smiling large and laughing! :goodvibes

Here's a picture the waitress took of us before we left the restaurant.

Me, Grandmother (Ruth), and Mom (Linda)

We went back to her place for fresh lemon pie for dessert. She had the new 2009 DVD and planning book laying out on her kitchen counter, so we watched parts of the DVD and talked about spa services that we want to get. So when I left, she said "I guess I have a lot of reading to do with everything you gave me. This summer is going to go by soooo slow!" Needless to say, mom and I both told her that if she keeps reading up on all the things to do, it will certainly appease her appetite, and the 7 months will fly!

It was a great day today!! :goodvibes

That's great Kimberly :goodvibes . I'm sure you will all enjoy anticipating a cruise together.

Tania

:goodvibes Kimberly: WONDERFUL story:) Reading that was a perfect start to my morning. I am so glad it went well for you.

Born2cruz: welcome:wave2:

Erica: I LOVE Keystone. It is the area a grew up skiing the most (for a while a couple of years we went pretty much every weekend). It is great for a beginer because it has one of the longest beginer runs anywhere (I think it was called School Marm--it has been 20 years since I was there). Whenever I ski with Rio I wish we had that trail because he likes the easier terrain but hates the really short runs. I hope you are finding plenty to enjoy on your trip. It sounds like the opposite (but still fun) of the cruise:upsidedow

Auditions: Thanks for the pixie dust everyone. Auditions took a LONG time (nearly 4 hours for the kids then back two hours later for another 3 hours for the adults). They are holding more adult auditions tonight. Then Tuesday nigth at 11:00 they will post a callback list online. We were told everyone on that list will at least be in the show but they will still be fine tuning some as to exactly which roles people will get. So, we are a house full of anxious people now for a few days. I do have to say (and yes I know I am baised) that I thought both kids did really well. I think Marika will at least be cast which is all she is really hoping for and I think Rio stands a good chance of getting a "real" chacarter. But, no one heard anyone else's vocal auditon (not even my own kids) so I can't judge on that at all. Sometimes Rio sings beautifully and at other times, well, NOT. At the very least, other than freezing (auditions were at the high school whose thermostat is turend VERY low on the weekend--we keep ours at 58 and WE were cold there) the kids really had fun with the audition which is a great thing.

ITA Hey look! I finally got the shamrock to work. I have no idea why it works now as I was fiddling and just took out the same two spaces I took out before. Anywho, Kimberly thanks for the directions and all of you who sent it along to me, thank you.

Kimberly,

BuckEye--Thanks for sharing your story! It sure sounds like you pulled it off & your Grandmother is lucky to have such a wonderful family!

And you guys all look SO much alike! Especially you & your mom. I love that!

Kimberly...great story!! Glad your grandmother is happy to be joining you and your mom.

Hadley...good luck on the callbacks...waiting is the hardest part.

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Yep! It's actually labeled 2008-2009. I need to order one for me today, too.

From what little we did watch, I could tell some differences, but it did seem to be very close to the 2007-2008 DVD. Nonetheless, I'm going to get it, too! I didn't get to the itinerary menu, so I can only imagine it has the new ports of call included.

 Heya everybody!

grumpy-gramps: That first hug will be soooo worth it!

Kimberly: Great story! Make sure to let your grandmother "pick up" the hoity-toity meal at Palo's... *twinkling eyes* Especially if YOUR credit card is the one doing the work! :thumbsup2 Oh, and get this... My mom wants me to run away with her on an Alaskan cruise for her 50th birthday this summer! I'm currently holding her off, but it is hard.

Hadley: Good luck, guys! :cheer2:

Erik: Have you, by any chance, ever seen the guy with hair on the left here:

For some reason, he seems like your twin to me:

Maybe I'm delusional...

Talk to ya'll later!

Kimberly! Love the big reveal story!!!:goodvibes Great picture too! You look JUST like your mom....omg! You could be twins!!! I admit I gasped loudly when I got to the part where your Grandmother said she already got her "mail"...Not exactly snail mail....:snail: What can I say, when you're good you're good, right....:confused3 ;)

Yesterday was Savannah's birthday...so you know where we *HAD* to go... (if not onboard the Magic or the Wonder....then there's only one alternative....!):earboy2:
We went over to DTD Ghiardelli afterwards..and got her the "Earthquake" to celebrate...(actually it ended up being dinner)...If you've never seen it.....

Hey All,

Thanks to many of you for the well wishes and pixie dust. Donald&Daisy you are right that the waiting is the hard part. If Rio asks the time and then calculates how many hours until callbacks are posted one more time . . .:rotfl2:

Jen, I love the birthday photos. You're daughter is lovely. Nice T-shirt in the background too;)

Kimberly - What can I say........your story brought a tear to my eye. It was so touching! She is so lucky to have you and your mom. This is going to be a great time for all of you!

Crissi

:lovestruc You are all too sweet. Thank you so much for your kind words! :grouphug: I assure you having Grandmother experience her first cruise with me and creating these special memories with us is purely selfish.

Jen, please give Savannah a big birthday hug! :cake: I'm amazed at the size of that "Earthquake"!!
