Double Developer points update

Ok - I have more silly questions. We have a 200 point contract at SSR with an August UY. If we add on AKV and have a different use year, is it difficult to juggle the 2 contracts and make sure the points all get used? I just see it getting tricky with 2 different resorts and 2 different use years. But I may be complicating it in my head without good reason. So to those who have this arrangement, is it hard?

If you add on through Disney, they will give you the same use year as your master contract. I think if you insist on a new master contract, it will require the 160 pt minimum. I'm not sure why anyone would do this as it does not allow you to combine points for banking deadlines.

12 months is awesome. We spoke to our guide today and she is re-writing our contract to include double developer points vice the $8/point discount.
We got 185 points with April UY. This means 370 developer points to be used within 12 months on top of that.
I would have been torqued if I had found out about the change after the paperwork had been sent off.

2 days ago, we told our guide we wanted 185 AKL points with the discount. We too could not use the developer points within 7 months. Now with the 12 month window, we could certainly use them for our trip in June 2008.

We still haven't received or signed any paperwork. Do you think it is possible to get the points instead of the discount?

If you haven't signed you should be able to change. Do a cost analysis & see whether the points or the discount makes more sense. If you use your developer points for your upcomming trip, will you be able to use all your purchased points in the next two years?

Thanks again for all the replies everyone! We just returned from a drive to Orlando and added on 100 points at AKV. We took the developer points and already converted two existing reservations to the developer points - THANKS TO THE INFO PROVIDED HERE!!! I mentioned it to our guide and he went to check to see if it was ok to do that. The closing person thought we'd have to make new reservations with the developer points. So you guys know better than they do.

On a sidenote - our guide and the closing person both know about DIsboards. They allege that there are people who work in research who follow the DIS (and other Disney related boards) all day and report to the powers that be. They especially (allegedly) follow the DVC boards. I'd seen that on the DIS before but wasn't really sure if I believed it!

Let me see if I understand this...are you saying that it is possible to use the developer points to replace 2007 pts that you have already used in existing reservations. I have existing reservations as of right now for Labor Day weekend, October, and NYE, plus next May.
Since the first three reservations are within 7 months from today, could I use developer points to replace those points (that were not banked or borrowed) and thereby, give me more points left to bank for 2008.
Does it matter where those reservations are? Normally, when trying to shuffle points, you can do it only by canceling and rebooking if points are from a different resort.

I was there last weekend . the policy changed this past week and we understood it was for new purchases minimum 160. Some other people posted this info too. With SS, you get a feb UY so you get those points, plus double points, plus another batch coming in FEB 08. so you can bank the developer points by September if need be. This is the best deal out there and a good guide will lead you to it.

My guide was very specific that developer points can NOT be banked and would expire in 12 months. Offer started Monday 7/23

Please double check with your guide before you buy with the expectation you can bank DPs. My guide could be wrong but if the points were bankable I probably would have bought AKV instead of going resale...

Vlee - YES! We have 2 existing reservations booked with our current use year, which is August. We have 5 nights booked at BCV (110 points) in a one bedroom for September and 2 nights booked at BWV (36 points) one bedroom, for December. I had read here on the DIS that you could replace those existing reservations with the developer points, which of course, would move your regular points back into the bank. I mentioned it to my guide and he verified it and said yes it could be done. As soon as we signed our contract yesterday and left DVC, I called MS and changed those two reservations to developer points. They said NO PROBLEM! The only thing is that it won't show up online for several days since the developer points are booked differently. I'll see my points credited back in a week or so. Long story short, you CAN change your current ressies to developer points!

About 3 weeks ago, I was able to get double developer's points on 2 50 point contracts. I don't know if it mattered or not, but I asked for 100 points and then asked my guide to split it into 2 50 point contracts.

correction- you can't bank the developer points. i meant to say that if you bought SS and got the FEB UY that they are offering, they will allow you to bank those points of course by Sept. or a bit after they said because it is so close to the 6 month banking deadline. then you get your next set in FEb 08 which is like half a year away. so you can combine those sets of points and stay longer or bigger villa etc..
